Sorry I should’ve been more clear, Diaspora, at one time anyway, had the ability to interact with Facebook similar to what the article was proposing. It wasn’t initially an option which is why I thought it might have come in the form as a plugin or something for diaspora. The idea however was to slowly ‘wean’ away people from Facebook by letting them interact there but initially keep their OWN copy of all their posts too via diaspora and then – I guess, not confirmed – the idea was that people would slowly start using Diaspora more. I know what you’re talking of though the fuzzy visions bit, its also frustrating that I can’t complete the vision let alone program it :P

looking like a meetoo project, Diaspora has a tough stand against g+, which is an even larger funded meetoo that doesn’t take off. It takes more to make a difference, I guess. In retrospective it seems simple to create facebook. The next big thing will be simple too, I predict. Too bad I’m no coder. And just harboring fuzzy visions doesn’t help either.
I’m curious what Peter Sunde comes up with…

Not sure about the protocol. Let me put it this way, ~700 mio people prefer communicating within a gated community.
~2.2 billion do not (yet).
I’m with the majority in this case, I can do without a nanny.
Joining a non-gated (large-scale) community platform sounds attractive to me.
