They have known since before 2004. This is just another bait-and-switch tactic to trick the masses into believing they are not evil and we are. Sony created and distributed spyware in conjunction with BMG Music as they provided BMG with the blank discs. One day, a person within a top secret government installation popped in a Sony/BMG music cd and noticed that their computer was suddenly trying to contact Sony/BMG without the user's knowledge or consent. They settled and Sony was forced to provide an uninstallation tool for their DRM software that self-installed on hundreds of thousands of computers without user knowledge or consent. I warned people in 2004 of that and now look at how devices have DRM in their hardware today. Amazon's Kindle allows the company to scan the Kindle hard drive and empowers them to delete anything they desire at any time, even if they are wrong. Google these things and learn what is happening as people do little to stop them. The only way to stop these companies from spying on us and suing us for non-crimes is to speak with our wallets. Boycott their products and make your own media. Share CC licensed things and use open source software. After they begin to see their profits dropping, only then will they begin to listen to reason.
