It’s not just the comments. Checking for comments (and ratings) every 20 mins (96 times per day per torrent) will probably end up in more transfered data than the actuall comments. I currently have 1711 torrents in utorrent which would end up checking for comments 164256 times/day then downloading god knows how many of them. In a month this would end up transfering hundreds of megabytes, maybe even few gigabytes. Now think about the canadians who have 25GB cap a month.

to be honest i think this is a bad idea, like ernesto said it could be used to make fake torrents appear more legitimate.

then we have this whole group of people who are downloading torrents, but are not technologically minded (yet) so they rely on the comments and never bother to check many simple things to ensure that a torrent is the real deal.

this doesnt seem that important of an update otherwise, but streaming and downloading at the same time? sounds interesting for some

To prevent abuse I would think there should be a rating system for the comments, ie. You mark a comment as bad and it gets deleted from ur system thus it wont get passed on to others, for a truly decentralized system THE COMMUNITYY NEEDS TO DO ITS PART, that means me and you

The issue with third point is more than just the size of text files. Even if you cannot add a comment with weird or “dangerous” values doesn’t mean a programmer that creates something that pretends to be uTorrent is not able to do that. (Just check out all the news about SQL injections on websites which should not be possible).

Back to size, although textfiles are small, any loop (in programming) is capable of creating millions of comments to make megabytes of data.
