KTorrent, like a lot of KDE apps, will probably make the jump to Win32 once KDE4 is released and all the requisite libraries are ported. Amarok is going in the direction, I believe, and possibly K3b, if the tools that serve as its backend get ported as well.

I think we can expect that uTorrent will pretty much stagnate now: Ludwig is no longer going to develop the client; instead, employees at BitTorrent, Inc. will. If anything declares their intent, it's this: the great mind that made arguably the best torrent client stops making it, and some chumps whose other offering—the reference client—is pathetic at best will do little but give it "features," by which I mean commercial bloat.

It's like bait: they'll offer uTorrent, but only their newly modified version of uTorrent. Because it's closed source, users will have no option but to either find an old version or just take the new one + bloat.

There are plenty of projects that currently show a lot of promise, but none of them completely cross-platform and none of them with the same rapid development as uTorrent.

Since Ktorrent is so similar to uTorrent (and is already open source), it would probably be easier for someone to just port Ktorrent to windows.

The "Cache Discovery Protocol" is already implemented in the (open source) mainline client, and will probably be included in uTorrent as well. uTorrent will stay closed source, but I think this has more to do with ka-ching than caching.
