Well I find this humorous when the BT staff are only providing general advice to general people from general people. They are not trained lawyers there to give law advice and neither are there there to judge the morality of the public. Their opinion is also not reflective of general BT policy.

I got to love this one...
The BT staff member allegedly noted that the films could be downloaded from those sites “in less time than it would take to watch the film”.

Very true words. Recently I downloaded a 2.4GB 720p movie and the download completed before I had even finished writing a previous TF message not unlike this one here. Thanks BT nice fast service there.

I have to ask is it a surprise to anyone that the whole huge bandwidth schemes offered by ISPs were almost solely for piracy? Infringement done on a totally massive scale when you don't need such bandwidth for browsing the web, checking email or downloading the odd MP3.

This is not all bad news for the copyright cartels when this huge data demand has resulted in many network upgrades certainly at ISP level. This same network is now used for official services like YouTube HD videos and NetFlix.

I should finish on that just because someone wants to download from The Pirate Bay does not mean they intend to infringe copyright when there is much lawful content there as well and they may also have fair use objectives. Not to forget that downloading itself is lawful in the UK when only the upload is a problem.

Exactly. Is it up to some helpdesk dude from India to inform potential customers of the law? I think not... Working at a helpdesk and having a bad day you could tell people the sky is red. Doesn't mean that is the opinion of the company.
