Don’t we already have a method of authentication via a token instead of a password, so we don’t give out our details. It’s called OAuth, and it’s supported by Twitter, Google, and more specifically Facebook and OpenID.

OpenID’s aim is to login with their OpenID url instead of a password.
Facebook Connect’s aim, is for you to login with your real identity instead of a password.
And Facebook works with the FBI and CIA.

So somebody explain to me what the need is. Don’t these things already exist?

Don’t we already have an online passport? It’s called an Internet Service Provider, an IP Address, and Facebook account.
