BitTorrent on your Mobile

Written by Ernesto on June 05, 2006

WizBit is a BitTorrent client for symbian S60 smartphones, using python. WizBit is not fully functional yet but David Hulbert, the developer of the Mobile BitTorrent client is planning to release the first major release on July 7.

Although the idea is great, Hollywood does not have to worry yet since the connection speeds on mobile phones are too slow and the transfer costs too high. But that is likely to change in the future.

WizBit started as a I Computer Science (actually Internet Computing, but it’s almost the same) project at Exeter University, and definitely looks like a promising project.

Wow, the next thing we know we’ll have 512k broadband on our phones!
Bittorrent on a phone is slow, like said.

Yow swedes are lucky. I am here in India where you can get a maximum of only get a “600kbps unlimited” connection which is really really costly. But there are 8Mbps connections for which the free usage per month can run out in an hour if used at full speed. It’s pathetic. I can’t take this anymore.

But.. you can get a 256kbps unlimited connection (EDGE). I know it’s a little less. But hey, most people here use dial-up!!! Can you believe it?
