Google - Filetype:torrent

Written by Ernesto on November 23, 2005

Google is a great search engine, even for torrents. It’s a really old trick, but it can be quite useful sometimes. Just add “filetype:torrent” in google before your keywords and google wil find the torrent. So if you’re searching for a “harry potter” torrent you should type something like this: “filetype:torrent harry potter”.

Are you guys kidding me? This is probably one of the worst ways to find torrents. Have fun downloading an xvid release which will probably take a few days to download.

I’m not sure, but I’ll take it that a lot of you people don’t know about too many other operators when searching google either. Such as “define:” or “weather:” ?

1) This never occurred to any of you before? How do you manage to understand the concept of torrents and not realize this.
2) This is an extremely impractical way of finding torrents. Most torrents are constantly being moved around and nuked. If you want to find a relatively new file, like the latest movie or the newest episode of a TV Show, Google has yet to webcrawl there and won’t return a result. Use a Torrent search engine, duh.

to make things more simpler iGoogle added a gadget that specifically searches for torrent files with a specific list of torrent websites.

I hate fakers, everyone do. They even hate themselves. Google will probably give you a whole bunch of fake torrents if you search for a torrent popular enough. But who use google for that? I mean it’s easy enough to go to a major torrent site and find it there. I find the google tip extremely useful when trying to _track_ down rare stuff, like old films for instance.

but most torrent trackers are limiting to US IP’s and if not, the MPAA has filed a court order for them to log their constituent IP address (ie. you) if you use their sites. Am I right?

/\/\ WTF is that tool on about? That is the biggest load of scaremongering bollocks I’ve heard in years.

Under what juristiction is this court order to be served? I suspect we have the MPAA in the house so I’d just like to say its about time the businesses you represent decided on a new business model my friend, as with any business in your holy capitalist society if you don’t evolve with demand, your business goes bust.
