Behind The Scenes at Anonymous’ Operation Payback

Operation Payback has been without a doubt the longest and most widespread attack on anti-piracy groups, lawyers and lobbyists. Despite the massive media coverage, little is known about the key players who coordinate the operation and DDoS attacks. A relatively small group of people, they are seemingly fuelled by anger, frustration and a strong desire to have their voices heard.

operation paybackIn the last two months, dozens of anti-piracy groups, copyright lawyers and pro-copyright outfits have been targeted by a group of Anonymous Internet ‘vigilantes’ under the flag of Operation Payback.

Initially DDoS assaults were started against the MPAA, RIAA and anti-piracy company AiPlex Software because these outfits had targeted The Pirate Bay. Those DDoS attacks were later replicated against many other targets that have spoken out against piracy or for copyright, resulting in widespread media coverage.

Even law enforcement agencies showed interest in the operation recently. Last week CNET reported that an FBI probe is underway, and TorrentFreak personally knows of at least one court case against a person that was associated with the operation.

Besides covering the results of the DDoS attacks and website hacks, very little is known about the people who are part of the operation. Who are they? What do they want, and what are their future plans? In this article we hope to solve a few pieces of the puzzle.

After numerous talks with people who are actively involved in Operation Payback, we learned that there are huge differences between the personal beliefs of members.

We can safely conclude that this Anonymous group doesn’t have a broad shared set of ideals. Instead, it is bound together by anger, frustration and the desire to be heard. Their actions are a direct response to the anti-piracy efforts of pro-copyright groups.

Aside from shared frustration, the people affiliated with the operation have something else in common. They are nearly all self-described geeks, avid file-sharers and many also have programming skills.

When Operation Payback started most players were not looking to participate in the copyright debate in a constructive way, they simply wanted to pay back the outfits that dared to target something they loved: file-sharing.

Many of the first participants who set the DDoS actions in motion either came from or were recruited on the message board 4Chan. But as the operation developed the 4Chan connection slowly disappeared. What’s left today are around a dozen members who are actively involved in planning the operation’s future, and several dozen more who help to execute the DDoS attacks.

An Anonymous spokesperson, from whose hand most of the manifestos originated, described the structure of the different groups to us.

“The core group is the #command channel on IRC. This core group does nothing more than being some sort of intermediary between the people in that IRC channel and the actual attack. Another group of people on IRC (the main channel called #operationpayback) are just there to fire on targets.”

Occasionally new people are invited to join the command to coordinate a specific attack, but a small group of people remains. The command group is also the place where new targets are picked, where future plans are discussed, and where manifestos are drafted. This self-appointed group makes most of the decisions, but often acts upon suggestions from bypassers in the main IRC channel.

Now let’s rewind a little and go back to the first attacks that started off the operation in September.

The operation’s command was ‘pleasantly’ surprised by the overwhelming media coverage and attention, but wondered where to go from there. They became the center of attention but really had no plan going forward. Eventually they decided to continue down the road that brought them there in the first place – more DDoS attacks.

What started as a retaliation against groups that wanted to take out The Pirate Bay slowly transformed into an attack against anyone involved in anti-piracy efforts. From trade groups, to lawyers, to dissenting artists. Since not all members were actively following the copyright debate, command often acted on suggestions from the public in the main IRC channel.

What followed was an avalanche of DDoS attacks that were picked up by several media outlets. This motivated the group to continue their strategy. Anonymous’ spokesperson admitted to TorrentFreak that the media attention was indeed part of what fuelled the operation to go forward. But not without some strategic mistakes.

As the operation continued more trivial targets were introduced and the group started to lose sympathy from parts of the public. While targeting the company that admittedly DDoSed The Pirate Bay could be seen as payback by some, trying to take out Government bodies such as the United States Copyright Office and UK’s Intellectual Property Office made less sense. In part, these targets were chosen by anarchistic influences in the operation.

“I fight with anonops because I believe that the current political system failed, and that a system based on anarchy is the only viable system,” one member told TorrentFreak. “I encouraged them to go after political targets just because I like Anarchy.”

The Anonymous spokesperson admitted to TorrentFreak that mistakes were made, and command also realized that something had to change. The targets were running out and the attacks weren’t gaining as much attention as they did in the beginning. It was a great way to gather attention, but not sustainable. In fact, even from within the operation not everyone was convinced that DDoS attacks were the best ‘solution’.

“I personally don’t like the concept of violence and attacking, but violence itself does raise attention,” Anonymous’ spokesperson told TorrentFreak.

“Attacking sites is one side of the story, but this operation would finally have to serve a purpose, otherwise it wouldn’t exist. We all agree that the way things [abuse of copyright] are currently done, is not the right way.”

Last week command decided to slow the DDoS attacks down and choose another strategy, mainly to regain the focus of attention. It was decided that they would make a list of demands for governments worldwide. In a move opposed to the desires of the anarchic influences, command decided to get involved in the political discussion.

Copyright/patent laws have to change, they argued, and from the bat they were willing to negotiate. They called for scrapping censorship, anti-piracy lawsuits and limiting copyright and patent terms, but not getting rid of copyright entirely. Interestingly, there is also no word in the demands about legalizing file-sharing.

To some this new and more gentle position taken by Anonymous came as a complete surprise. We asked the spokesman of the group about this confusing message and he said that there are actually several political parties that already adopt a similar position, like the Pirate parties and the Greens in Europe.

However, according to the spokesman (who wrote the latest manifesto with other members in Piratepad) they consciously chose this set of demands. “Some of us have the vision of actually getting rid of copyright/patents entirely, but we are at least trying to stay slightly realistic.”

“What we are now trying to do, is to straighten out ideals, and trying to make them both heard and accepted. Nobody would listen to us if we said piracy should be legal, but when we ask for copyright lifespan to be reduced to ‘fair’ lengths, that would sound a lot more reasonable,” the spokesman told TorrentFreak.

The demands have been published on the Operation Payback site for nearly a week, but thus far the media coverage hasn’t been as great as when they launched their first DDoS. Some have wondered whether this is the right path to continue in the first place, as it may get in the way of groups and political parties that have fought for similar ‘ideals’ for years already.

The spokesman disagreed and said that Operation Payback has “momentum” now.

So here we are nearly two months after Anonymous started Operation Payback. The initial anger and frustration seems to have been replaced by a more friendly form of activism for the time being. The group wanted to have their voice heard and they succeeded in that. However, being listened to by politicians and entertainment industry bosses might take more than that.

The problem is that the politicians who are in a position to make changes couldn’t be paid enough to give a damn. They’re all worried about getting reelected or quarreling about the same godforsaken topics they’ve been stuck on for years. No progress can come from negotiating with politicians.

I’d rather have a legit game to play then a piraqted copy just for the reason of proper updates especially sports game updates and multiplayer for shooters so I just guess if you want a full game you have to pay for it and yes I know you can play on pirated servers but I want to be able to play against all people just not a select few so pirating is good for the game companys from me and mine perspective. I try it I like I buy it instead of relying on they’re shady advertising.

“Criminal group” is a broad term that superbly fits those who subvert democracy by rewarding politicians for corrupt actions against the majority of the populace to appease a small group of pro copyright terrorists, if your going to start name calling at least know what your talking about and be prepared to defend your fool-hardy words with some sort of rhetoric #2

Copy right laws have gone too far.
How is it fair if a book or a game has copyrights, when several years have passed.

After an amount of time, the copyright holders have made their profits. All thats left after these initial big profits would be nothing more than chump change to the millionaire/billionaire copyright holders.

The length of time in which a copyright becomes expired should be reduced.

Perhaps then, many of the pirates would not feel so much anger and frustration towards these issues.

Support Operation Payback and everybody gains.

Ever since the copywrong groups got involved with the internet, the direction has been to repeal fair use laws in the US.

All laws made have almost nothing in them for the public domain (other than to extend the time that the copyright protects).

It’s been all take by lobbying groups encouraging the politicians to make laws supporting the entrenched corps at the expense of the public.

I do not agree with DDoS attacks. They send the wrong message.

However, nothing else seems to be getting through to the public media and to the lawmakers as there is no public representative with money for fancy dining and with slush funds that will contribute substantially to the re-election war chests.

Everyone who could push a good, fun, newsworthy attack has long fucked off from Operation Payback. The only people who are left are those with egos the size of the sun and no substance to match.

Operation Payback going “legit”, indeed? A nice thought but no one will take it remotely seriously.

There’s no reason why anyone and everyone who’s been getting involved with the DDoS’s (there were thousands) can’t get political in their own time. There were people from all walks on life in there, for fucks sake! But under the guise of “Operation Payback”? You’ve got to be an idiot to continue anything revealing under that title.

To the kids who have just realized they might be able to push change and do something positive in their lives: Great — get educating, but for fucks sake don’t do it under that label. At best you’ll get a small ego boost and a short term sense of satisfaction, at worst you’ll be carted off to prison under the computer misuse act.

Operation Payback as a “protest” was fantastic while it lasted but few would kid themselves into thinking it was anything but short-term. It gained attention, ruined ACS:Law and did a fair amount of good. Now let’s move on and go back to what we’re best at doing: sharing files.

Share and educate – it’s the way forward.

  • neostyles

I wonder if these internet politicians realize that what many file sharers want is to abolish copyright and make everything free? Do they recognize the overwhelming sense of entitlement that somehow always crops up in anything related to file sharing? How many times have we seen people talk about how getting things for free over torrents is a “glorious new, internet age business model”?

  • Tyler

I find it funny. Anonymous is one of the groups that wants change, and is doing SOMETHING to try and get change! Of course, everyone is going to say Oh no! Thats wrong wrong wrong. But look at the politicians, what they’re doing is probably even worse, and the fact that there doing little to nothing to actually make change (And keep it) and they get all the peoples support. Anon will never get people support cause people can’t stop and think, hey, these people may not be all Governmentle, but what they want is good. It’s all about the government saying whats gonna happen, and The PEOPLE cant say shit. (This was like off/on topic)

Who cares where their attention lie, the fact that there is a group standing up for darer copyright and forcing the issue and in affect flaming the fire, it’s a good thing to me. Piracy must exist so half ass products like the iPhone’s braille support for reading isn’t the only outlet for materials digitally. I vent about a 0.2% population issue, but I’m sure you can come up with your own.

  • Heh

I have been a part of this from the beginning.. and I have to say: It was once a beautiful, infallible thing. Now it’s a joke, where there is constant internal fighting, drama, power politics.. It’s a damn shame but most of us who haven’t left, are just waiting to go down with the ship. Moving from server to server (even from ones with stability and security, just so certain people could be in power) mangled the numbers and the motivation for most to continue. Whoever wrote this article certainly does not speak for the majority – instead they speak for that tiny aforementioned elite group in #command that don’t realize the only people making this operation a success are in the main channel. Segregation in such circumstances is downright appalling. This has turned into such an embarrassment. I do hope this will one day be revived but it’s doubtful. Until then.. dreams are free.

  • steve mcqueen

What people need to do is make their voice heard through voting and similar things.

You know why there are so many things done for the people in European countries? Because the political leaders in those countries remember times when the people have united and made their voices heard. By revolution and other means. The memory of events like that frightens the power players and thus changes are made for the benefit of the people.

In America, unfortunately, that is not the case. “For the people” has lost it’s meaning. Now it’s more like “for the corporations”. Oh you don’t like what’s happening, well you gave me money, so what do you want the law to be?

People need to stand up. And if things don’t change, then vote out those in power. If all the politicians are hearing is the voices of the corporations and their opinions, then that’s what they’ll base their decisions on. So people need to make their voices heard.

And if politicians don’t listen then replace them with those who will. They aren’t the elite. They don’t run the country. They are only there for a short time, the people are the ones who give them the opportunity to be there. And the people are the ones who can remove them when they aren’t serving the people’s needs.

Interesting. Reminds me of that book about the pigs that became the admins of the farm. Don’t remember the author or the name, just the story…

Realistically they have less chance of being heard if they are not causing some disruption, much like any population in the world. If what the comment said about the operation, that there’s a kind of elite that has drifted away from the main body of Operation Payback then it’s happening exactly as most governments out there.

    Interesting social experiment ;)

Still, I do hope it has fueled enough discussion over the obsolete copyright laws.

yeah, so we’ll bring down these huge copyright groups and change the laws that govern the world by stopping people accessing their website for a few days. operation payback has literally no idea how politics works.

ddosing doesn’t work – it just frustrates people for a few days

voting doesn’t work – your vote is one vote withing hundreds, thousands or millions (depending on where you live), and like it or not you won’t change the world with one vote.

forming your own party doesn’t work – the pirate party is a nice idea, but ideological it will always be. they will never be in power, no other political parties will take them seriously or listen to a “few silly left-wing extremists”, so they will not be able too change any laws.

what is left? probably the most difficult options. if it was easy to change the world we’d all be doing it every day right? most people can’t be arsed to do what it takes to *really* change the world (including myself), but here’s a couple of suggestions on how it could be done.

infiltrating political parties and working your way to the top – while not what you would call an “infiltrator” per se, tony blair (whether you like him or not) joined the labour party and moulded it to suit his own views, worked his way to the top and changed the country accordingly.

infiltrating major media outlets – there are so many media outlets that it’s pretty impossible to sustain a popular one and have it recognised and respected. better to work for a major media outlet such as a british tabloid or US new network and work your way up to be able to influence your work colleagues and ultimately the wider reading/listening/viewing public through articles, editorials and headlines.

rant over. feel free to shoot me down in flames.

For torrentsites there is the rule “Cooperation is futile, you will be sued anyway”.
For operation payback going political the rule would be: “Unless you have a huge back of money, persuasion is futile”.

Politicians will only go as far as lowering impact, postponing decisions or promise to look into it and at some point in time they will go the wrong way anyway. Can’t believe those in command are so naieve. Since sending fake DMCA messages seems legal, a follow up with DMCA DDOS of MAFIAA sites would be much more sensible (ofcourse it would be better not using your real address but something like… websheriff).

As economy is even more important than life (like a chemical factory can keep poisoning people) there is no way that a politician would do anything against economic motives of the rich/influential, not even against unproven/false claims.

  • FuzzyX

They do well to call for a reduction in the lifespan of copyright protection.

Media is created to entertain the public and once released it becomes part of social entertainment.

All works will in the end become public property to do with as they please.

Copyright is about providing artists FAIR return for their creation by stopping others from profiting from their works.

Copyright is NOT about maintaining absolute control. Once released it is public and for them to socially enjoy and share.

The main problem is that copyright last too long denying cocreation and idea expansion. So long the end public gift is usually long dead and obsolete.

Artists instead of milking their creation for all it is worth should just be happy with the profit they made and to create new even if based on other copyright expired works.

It is a public resource of ideas and art. Then they got greedy. Every year they have gained we have lost and then they lose out as well.

  • Maroan

    @56
Yes we are all WELL AWARE that the reason this isn’t a public social debate is because the media is owned by MAFIAA.
were also very aware that they OWN the politicians as well, which is why the copyright ‘debate’ is one sided.
So for all the FBI/ MAFIAA/ government trolls hanging out here, that’s why this is happening.
Our REPRESENTATION in the government is owned by lobbyists, and traditional media is owned by the owners of those lobbyists. We tried to circumvent your BLATANT CORRUPTION, and we have been attacked for years over it.
There’s no justice in the courts, or government. The laws were bought by our opponents, and the media has buried the entire debate. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? it’s not unreasonable to turn to civil unrest, and it’s TO BE EXPECTED. read ANY HISTORY BOOK. the real problem is you guys are fighting the evolved urge to learn and educate. From a evolutionary/ biological perspective, you might as well try and ban reproduction or eating.

And lastly. The Internet was made specifically to share knowledge by a relatively egalitarian group of very smart people. Sure, you can sell shit on it, but it’s real purpose is information. Links, retweets, “view source” function. The very ethos of the Internet is easily transmitted and duplicated content. If big content doesn’t like it they should stop digitizing their music. If they don’t like digitized music that’s fine, but don’t try and take away THE INFORMATION AGE because you don’t want to innovate.

  • anonymous

Lol, having read even more comments, I love how it’s just a known fact voting is worthless and corporate lobbyists own America and the only thing that matters is the bottom line. I love how educated we are, and I love that the truth is finally starting to sink in. I try and tell other people this shit, and they look at me lime I’m paranoid. People are so ignorant it’s crazy. We have to defend the Internet by any means necessary. If we leave it up to the ‘government’ and big media to educate us we are little more than cash crops for corporate America. Fortunately the Internet is made by real people for real people, plus there’s too many of us to bribe :) stay educated people, and keep fighting the good fight, were all that stand between god knows how much lost progress. Basically imagine life without the Internet, and everyones as dumb as in the 80s, and project that forward a few hundred years. Yeah. That’s what they want for us.

The government agencies are exactly the appropriate targets. They are the initiators of aggression. It is the government that passes these laws, convicts people who violate these assanine laws and executes the convictions at the point of a gun. Non violence oppositon is the most effective against the government and I applaud anonymous.

…there’s no consistency… a site “is down” until the time comes that anonymous feels it’s a good idea to move on to another site. Then that first site rises again to life. What’s accomplished in the long run?

  • WangDangDoodle

I’m glad to see that Anon is trying to act more rationally. This will secure their ability to draw upon more followers and sympathizers. It may also give the group direction and purpose through setting goals and operations.

The one thing I worry about, is that Anon will stop here- at DDosing. There must be more.
-More programmers must join the revolution. Hierarchy must be dictated by involvement, raw brainpower and talent.
-More action. The revolution will be digital, but it must affect physical change. That is to say not everything can be destroyed with DDos and viruses. If ISP servers were to be sabotaged or destroyed, Anon could expect widespread publication, stronger debate, and recognition as a determined and active voice for the unheard public.

& if this is where Anon must aim the fight- toward the public eye- it must do so with a clear and concise message. Forget making it all inclusive to your organization’s wishes; compromise has always been the harbormaster of war. Simply make the aim correct; to release art from perverse monetary control.

If this is accomplished, then affecting change in government may be achievable. Perhaps voting, one day, can be perfected: Strictly college graduates representing our country not through representative democracy, but by direct elect democracy made possible by the internet.

Goals Goals Goals; Aim the for the head.

The book you refer to is Animal Farm by George Orwell.

And I believe the final line to the book goes a bit like this.

“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

And another quote from that chapter, which somehow reminds me of the current state of affairs goes a little something like this.

“Somehow it seemed as though the farm had grown richer without making the animals themselves any richer— except, of course, for the pigs and the dogs.”

And on that note, I bid you adieu with one final bit of wisdom.

DDoS will only go so far. Sure, it’s an effort. But, I cannot see this going to make a drastic difference other than just simply just asking for it some more.

It bothers me at times when people thrive for a difference. All you’ve got is words, and little action. Such, in time, can, will, and has been ignored.

Something else needs to be done at this point. Because eventually, not saying now, but this will be thwarted. It is best to keep them guessing and never know what to expect next. Keep it at a non-violent state. Because what good is anyone if they get caught and sent to jail from this? Nothing.

Here’s the kicker to Anarchists out there: It’s a form of government too. So, kicking out one government to replace it with another government, and saying you’re not a government. Wouldn’t that be hypocrisy?

Anarchy is not a form of government, it is allowing everyone to do what is right in their own eyes. Originally this was God’s plan, case in point Cain who killed his own brother. God would not allow anyone to punish Cain. this is because it would involve allowing a system of laws, and governance. Which would be rapidly manipulated by the greediest & most dishonest people around at the time. Unfortunately this original plan of freedom failed. the people lapsed into violence without laws. After the flood God gave people authority to punish & govern each other, but it doesn’t change the fact that the law is manipulated by the greediest & most dishonest people around. however it forces a level of discipline on the population that prevents total chaos. It forces spiritual maturity to occur in the human race, and in the end the evil rulers (willing to lose their souls for temporary control of the riches of this life) will be discarded. This is an attempt help define “Anarchy”. Total freedom will return again someday.

  • Toasty

Anarchy, is too, a form of government. Look it up.

This is not about fair use or freedom.

We just want free movies, music and games.

We know how to get them.

We just don’gt want to be punished for it.

    That simple.

  • MRx

IF YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED ABOUT PIRACY FOR PERSONAL USE, THEN DO READ COMPLETELY AS THERE IS A SINGLE SOLUTION AND IT IS WHAT I’VE WRITTEN…

Honestly, if ya ask me, this is heck a lot more “practical” than doing DDOses “for LULz” as they can’t take down a site (mostly! LOL) forever in order to achieve their “revenge”. Yeah, some “stuffs” may be “extracted” like that AC Nielsen company… ahhh! Wait a sec… Isn’t it used to be “ACS” !? *thinks* Yeah! It is… It is…!!! :D) But what if others would start to cautious enough?! May be, in due time, some very very very powerful “firewall” that actually limits “traffic” from particular IPs ?! It’s name is “Track Me Not” and it says like this: “With TrackMeNot, actual web searches, lost in a cloud of false leads, are essentially hidden in plain view. ”

    cs.nyu.edu/trackmenot/

It is also a form of “DDOs” as both use the same “flooding” but in this case, you “Anons” would definitely like because it also helps to “anonymize” the searches… Yeah, there are another things like “scroogle” which actually “screws” google as another “operation payback” (but a lot more “wiser” than DDoSing if ya ask me… :P) as Google “screws” it’s “loyal” (including me! I don’t use Y! or Bing etc! I don’t even use things like “Scroogle” as I don’t actually care whatever information they collect … xD) fans and “searchers” by hmmm ya know… “tracing” and “tracking” :P But I’ve also heard Google “blocks” if ya use it… Wait a sec… Doesn’t this “track me not” remind you another “anonymous” thing “Bug Me not” ?! :P And wasn’t a time where Google “blocked” Scroogle ?! Hmmm … :)

But like I’ve already said, “If Pirate Parties International’s “inspiration” “forefather” Piratpartiet lost in it’s own country’s (Sweden’s) elections”, then there is very little hope if those “anons” follow those unsuccessful [definitely though I wish they could be a lot more successful and make this word “free for personal use” one day... I'm not lying... I'm REALLY hopeful but I'M AFRAID... If they “snail pace” their “goals”, reality is not a “story” where a “tortoise” would “eventually” win a “rabbit” ... Mind it! :)] “Pirate Parties”. Though Obama “contradicts” himself, it is also a “paradox” (“an argument that apparently derives self-contradictory conclusions by valid deduction from acceptable premises”) …

From his infamous (and practically, Bush honestly deserves this heck a lot more than Obama because when I read his speech, it was/is Bush who appeared/appears very much proud while accepting EVERYTIME! Or just close your eyes and listen, you’ll DEFINITELY agree with me… :P) Nobel Prize acceptance speech:

“I make this statement mindful of what Martin Luther King said in this same ceremony years ago – “Violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem: it merely creates new and more complicated ones.” As someone who stands here as a direct consequence of Dr. King’s life’s work, I am living testimony to the moral force of non-violence. I know there is nothing weak -nothing passive – nothing naïve – in the creed and lives of Gandhi and King.

But as a head of state sworn to protect and defend my nation, I cannot be guided by their examples alone. I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people. For make no mistake: evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler’s armies. Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda’s leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force is sometimes necessary is not a call to cynicism – it is a recognition of history; the imperfections of man and the limits of reason.”

Anons, this is also suitable to you dudes and dudettes because though ya must not be an “extremist”, as these governments are not “terrorists” (though they regularly “terrorize” us :D), being “pacifist” … being “Gandhian” helps a lot… But only if channelized properly…

I think I’ve seen “Gandhi” (not the real one! The film! Though I was born nearly a “decade” after the movie! :D) and I think I know lil bit about his “non violence” …

Even unesco.org says like this: “Non-Violence is the philosophical awareness that each human being, including oneself, is significant, valuable, and powerful.”

If ya can’t understand even now, I can make it a lot more clearer… :)

Like I’ve already said, “Hey, why not watch free musics (from Vevo, SME wherever you are)from youtube?! Just like me?!

The only thing that is practical is to COMPLETELY BOYCOTT MOVIE INDUSTRY unless they reduce the costs… Look… If we boycott, movie industries can’t get $$$ and as a result, they would automatically reduce… :)

I think this is another idea… (WHICH I PREFER BECAUSE IT IS “PRACTICAL” THE PREVIOUS ONE!) They can even have some site like Vevo and they can supply the whole movie for very low resolution (but very good picture clarity) and if people are interested, then can buy hd dvds or hey, why not reduce the cost in theatre?! Nothing can beat the theatre experience… But we must not change those low res videos just like jpg to svg… ;P LOL

Mostly I’m not interested in movies and even if I wanna watch, I can simply watch with my friend… look… “best friend” + “lots of C$$$$$” = “free LEGAL movie DVDs whenever you want without copying” … (LOL)

Hey, why not picture industry follow this?! At least, they can even stream free movies after 5 years (ads may help!) or make them cheaper… After all, most of the classic movies are before 5 to 10 years… :) But I think they won’t… At least, they must stream some 20 year old movies at least…
:(” <- this is much more practical stuff…

THIS IS THE NON-VIOLENCE MOVEMENT THAT WILL HAVE follow in order to get QUICK AND MORE EEFFECTIVE AND EVEN LONDSTANDING AND IF WE DON'T FORGET, AND IF WE ARE DON'T CHANGE INTO “STUPIFDS”, YOU/WE CAN EVEN GET "FOREVER" RESULTS… wow! Lets combine… I meant “stupefied stupids” … :D

In other words, DON'T GO TO THEATURES… DON'T BUY ANY CDS/DVDS/BLUERAYS AND COMPLETELY BOYCOTT (“to engage in a concerted refusal to have dealings with (as a person, store, or organization) usually to express disapproval or to force acceptance of certain conditions”) UNTILL THEY ACCEPT… Guess what?! THEY WILL DEFINITELY ACCEPT IF WE DO LIKE THIS… They will have NO choice except accepting… Why?! Once again I'm repeating… Without us, they can't “SUCK” “billions” and “trillions” of money… hey! Even the word “suck” won't have any “google suggestions” … :D

Though I'm practically not “anonymous” [if TF allowed me to upload my pic and create a perfil ah! Profile! LOL, then I'd have because I prefer to be rather more “open” to be an “anon” ... :) Heck! “M-Rex” is even a short form and stylized of my name though it is also kinda “stylish” of it's own!!! ! :D)]

“We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forget. We do not forgive. EXPECT US.”

If this is “true” and if those “legions” are a lot more “powerful” and “ADANDANT”, then those MPAAs must DEFINITELY “ABANDON” and my DEAR ANONS, THIS IS WHAT I SAY “PAYBACK IS A HECK! PAYBACK IS THE BITCH! …

If ya do so, then even non anons and practical thinkers (like me! :P) and people who feel as if they are “chained” (once again… like me! :D) people who are eagerly waiting to “break down” but without and definitely without any “chain mail” as our path is “non violence” and even they can't “blackmail” us. May be, we don't say “Pirating” is our “right” … But “viewing” thier movies is OUR PERSONAL RIGHT and no one can stop us and force us! Even if we are being “forced” (probably that won't happen! :D) we must not… definitely must not “stop” … :)

Just go to 300ondvd.com/300.html “Warner Bros. Pictures acknowledges and regrets the number of the music cues for the score of “300” were derived from music composed by ACADEMY-AWARD WINNING composer Elliot Goldenthal for the motion picture “Titus.” Warner Bros. Picture has a great respect for Elliot, our longtime collaborator, and is pleased to have amicably resolved this matter”

May be, that “Goldenthal” is a “longtime collaborator” … But does this mean you can easily “steal” his music ?! No! He must not resolve this matter “amicably” … :P And oh! “Warner Bros. Picture has a great respect for Elliot” wow! Wow! Wow! JUST WOW (once again! LOL) “Warner Bros. Picture has a great respect for Elliot” So, I think this is Warner Bros.’ way to “homage” their greatly “respected” Elliot… ahhahahahahaa! :D :D :D :D D: :D D: D: D: :D (yup, it is a mixed “sadness” and “laughter” … a mixed feeling… LOL)

And oh! If someone directs / produces a movie about “Xerxes and “Leonidas“, Warner will sue … xD Well, wait a sec … Probably the movie itself is a derivative work” of a novel … amazon.com/300-Frank-Miller/dp/1569714029

I’ve already said about “ET” and “Alien” … Wow! Though I don't know more about India and Indian movies, they seem to be interesting… LOL

Even Disney and Warner Bros "copied" each other … But it was WARNER BROS who was mostly "benefited"

    preview.tinyurl.com/disneyficationofwarnerbros

If ya ask me, THESE SERIOUSLY “constitute(s) (a) serious breach of copyright violation and theft” BECAUSE OF “Warner Bros. property.”

"Everybody calls people airing stuff on the web piracy just because they’re not making money off of it yet. If they (executives) can figure out how to make money off of it, they won’t? call it piracy anymore." – Ashton Kutcher

Indeed, if ya ask me, this quote is having a thought provoking double entente in it if you remove "(executives)"… In addition to the original meaning: “publicity” (that's why i suspect Warners because if ya “run” a movie, you seem to do whatever ya can to “hype” … Remember “David Manning” ?! If not, please do to this article and read: museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/archive/permalink/david_manning/

Though “he singled out Heath Ledger of A Knight's Tale as "this year's hottest new star." Heath DEFINITELY was (no! I won't use “past tense” even their are “physically” no more… heck! What about hose “pics” and hmmm “memorials” and last but not the least… MEMORIES?! etc ?!) … At least, the only movie starring Ledger I watched is “Dark Knight” where he was actually the movie… Hey… What does the word "protagonist" mean?! According to Webster … “the principal character in a literary work" So, I think in "Dark Knight", it seems (heck! It basically is!) Joker is the leading character if you look other Batman movies (at least most of 'em! LOL) …Kinda like "The Killing Joke" if ya ask me!! :P

"If they can figure out how to make money off of it, they (copyright lobbyists) won’t call it piracy anymore." a.k.a PLAGIARISM is indeed accepted while personal use is not. WTH (What the heck!) ?!

So, they definitely are not GENUINE and they even “SUCKING” such trillions and trillions of currencies from “copying” and “plagiarizing” from (US people ah! Not USA… I meant “us” … :D) but they are not allowing us to watch for personal use with not much “money” and “Fame” advantages ?!

Unlike the “Kutcher” incident, Recording Industries are merciful enough to freely “stream” HIGH QUALITY contents… From it's “about page”: “VEVO was created in partnership by Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and the Abu Dhabi Media Company.” and even here, Warner didn't enrol it seems… Hey, aren't they once “infamous” for their “WMG takedowns” ?! But now, I think they are even having their “official” youtube channel: youtube.com/user/warnerbrosrecords and allows the “artists” to post even “1080 p” videos and I think there is a “buzz” that Youtube might even go to some 4abc (x) efgh resolution if I remember correctly. Hey people, don't even faint if those generous “artists” post their “own” videos in much much higher even in the highest resolutions you can possibly imagine (No! Don't be mean by meaning very huge res! :D)

When i used some Australian proxy, I was able to view most of the videos from Vevo with their “SME”s … :) It seems mostly, “makings” are “censored” which honestly, most of them don't worry … :) Some hardcore / die hard fans might… But “something is ACTUALLY better than nothing” … :)

So, if Warner Music came to conclusion and finally allowed their own “artists” to upload their “own” videos in even “1080p”, then do Warner Movie Industry think movie lovers are “fool enough” not to claim the same as music lovers ?! Yup, mostly, songs cost much less cost than movies (unless you a(n) (e)MJ) so I/we want movies after “sucking” mostly by requesting them to post only after some years… Look… Not all movies can gross in DVD sales even after “45 years” like “The Sound of Music (45th Anniversary Edition) (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) (1965)” which is currently in #18 (“29 days in the top 100”) or a “Beauty and the Beast (Two-Disc Diamond Edition) (1991)” which is in #15 (57 days in the top 100). Source: amazon.ca

Even if they do sell even after 50 years, “streaming” a low res but high quality (look… “resolution” don't matter if ya don't click “screen full” unless you are not using a “standard” computer… :P) pics… If ya ask me, they'd probably increase / urge / inspire / pleasantly force (because of the movie's “quality”) the “streamers” to “buy” a higher res (they must also have wide range of resolutions in order to please the common people as the “recession” is not practically “an end” !) videos… Look… If streaming “others' ” “works” is “illegal”, “steaming” their “own” is not illegal… Why did Recording Industry changed it's mind instead of “removing” the “violated” ones ?! Because they are quite sure… a) Ya can't possibly stop Google like TPB. b) Even if those “industries” and Google jointly plan to “take down” so-called “violators”, then they can even create a new account and post the same. And as I've already said, if they start to “punish” them violently, like I've already said, “Streisand Effect” will definitely come into play… And I tell you… Whether those “anons” don't forgive or not… This strange “effect” doesn't and honestly and one can't “escape” because whatever action (both “surrendering” and “protesting”) one takes will “fuel” and “increase” the “publicity” …

But we must not misuse this awesome “Streisand Effect” whatsoever by harming others' feelings … Ahhh! Motion Picture Industries are EXCEPTION unless they “stream” LEGALLY FOR FREE… Ads might (definitely hep and we can even disable our “adblockers” and “hosts” of tey don't invade and harm our piracy and if they are not malicious… :P)

Yeah, may be, Youtube and Google “auto-identify” and “publish” the “original” artists and the name of the respective song recently. I've noticed… But it doesn't mean there is another possibility by adding “remixing” or doing something in order to escape…

I was almost down to tears while reading without my consciousness… "To assist home PC users in these troubled economic times and to help them understand the importance of data backups, GFI Software is offering for free its newly-developed backup and recovery software GFI Backup 2009." http://www.gfi.com/backup-hm/free-backup-software Wow! Though I didn't/don't use it often, I didn't/won't uninstall it… :') (kinda funny emoticon, isn't it?! :( LOL) GFI is not doing it for publicity purposes… It is quite popular backup software… :)

Though it seems nowadays it seems they have removed such an “emotional” line, they still continue to give even in Movember 2010… I think they probably think “recession” is finally over which is actually not…

As We all now, people are getting smaller and smaller (financially…!) and the depression (* cough cough* … sorry! "recession" … LOL) in the USA and global recession is now "officially over” cbc.ca/money/story/2010/09/20/recession-over.html

But "Economic storm may not be past" "Ever feel like you’re living in the calm before the storm? That may be because you are." (ooooooooo! o_0) http://www.torontosun.com/comment/columnists/michael_dentandt/2010/10/08/15635951.html "

I will be honest, this whole effort is a childish waste of time. As long as those “hit” are able to re-establish their sites and retain their data, it’s not going to make much difference to them. Thanks to a plethora of large online social mediums such as Twitter, Youtube, and Facebook (who I doubt can be taken offline by DDos), and the media itself, these figures can easily re-establish their presence. Also, I doubt it will make much difference to a politician whether his .com/.gov is offline. They have much better things to worry about, such as being reelected and their money. The number of politicians who truly represent their collective is in the minority.

If American Law makers continue to get their way with the laws of the internet without the consent of the people, I GUARANTEE you that attacks will get worse from grassroots organization. Take enough privacy away, (and I hate to say it) violence may be the end result. When Americans are asking, “Why aren’t we more like China?” you know virtual retalitiation is the right method.

One of the trial lawyers responsible for sending Neij, Sunde, and Lundström to prison, and the unrealistic fines, foolishly, naively predicts piracy’s fall, using this case as a bellwether
