Footage of Megaupload Raid Goes Missing

Following a lengthy FBI investigation an anti-terrorist police squad raided Kim Dotcom’s Coatesville mansion in January.

Much of this Hollywood-like raid was filmed by Dotcom’s own security cameras, but without it being on the seizure list the security tapes were taken by the police.

Claiming it was unlawfully obtained, Dotcom and the Megaupload legal team now want the footage back.

Among other things, they want to use the material to proof that the police actions back in January went too far.

However, after the police finally agreed that Dotcom’s team could make a copy, the real trouble started.

The server rack which also contained the security footage has been taken apart by the police, and the authorities even doubt that they have the “tapes” in the first place.

So the question is… Where is the footage, and why has it mysteriously disappeared?

More details in the excellent 3News video.

      • Lakisha

while u do have valid points, ur comment smells like paid shill. Let me correct that for you, mafiaa paid the gov’t who paid the poliece who got megaupload raided so yes mafiaa is responsible. Now u can ask for their head on a plate or have them walk the plank pirate speak. sharethe files dot com

Its amazing how often video evidence of law enforcement actions goes missing when there is a question of ethics.

    • newguest

      You wouldn’t steal a server…

      oh wait.

I wonder how these tapes mysteriously disappeared? Could it be that there is something on them that the police and the FBI doesn’t want the court or public to see what they have done???

    • http://twitter.com/sheepodoom SheepODoom

Yep that’s how they roll here. Look at the Casey Anthony trial.

  • Anonymous

Well, they did destroy evidence that can be used to free him. Can we have an infiltrant in the NZ police to give us the data on the Pirate Bay?

    • Camilo

What has the pirate bay to do with this? And, NZ is far from Sweeden.

      • Anonymous

    that journalist rocks !

John Campbell … You are a real journalist in a sea of press release parrots

actually no he is a complete dumbass…im pretty sure theres lots better than him,, it just so happens that he coverers this case.. i watched the first video when he intervied Kim just wen he got out..he is a dumbass..

      • FinalApokylypse

He’s not a dumbass. He’s the only reporter I’ve actually seen in NZ who is actually taking in both sides of the story and asking the hard questions and that takes guts. The interview with the police commissioner was actually very entertaining as the hard questions he asked him made him visibly uncomfortable.

But we are all allowed our opinions.

P.S. Using grammar and spelling words right helps when accusing someone of being a dumbass ;)

  • Estavanmendez

HAHAHAHA, you remove the only hard copy an poof. Every police force practices, they get a slap on the wrist an they dont have to deal with incriminating evidence. well we chalk that up to a loss an learn from the mistake, now if only we could have the security footage streamed an saved on a home computer or off base server……

  • Gucci_ann1

fck d american cops ya shit’s big assholes mein im fckin raw dogggg

    • http://twitter.com/sheepodoom SheepODoom

I would encourage all you folks to cut such ties to my country… We are going down a dark path right now & quickly becoming a Nuclear Police State Hitler would have envied.

I know it looks bad… but I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation.

    • FuzzyDuck

There is a simple, clean, elegant and reasonable explanation: the cops are corrupt.

  • MadAsASnake

Pretty sure that if it supported the police version of events we’d have seen it by now…

a shit storm is a brewing

  • Muu

    FUK THA POLICE !

  • Anonymous

Dotcom paid for devices to hold pictures ex the security cameras. Dotcom asked for the pictures to be taken. Dotcom initiated the taking of those pictures, he now owns copyright on those pictures. I suggest he bring copyright charges against the police for theft of copyright material, therefore all police computers should be seized and not allowed to be touched, because they MAY form part of the case. enough is enough!!!

    • McG

      Thank you.

  • Sgdeluxedoc

The more I hear about this case, the sicker i feel. In the beginning i was sure, no matter how I personally felt about the raid, that MU would have a hard time proving it’s innocence (innocent until proven guilty? ..does ANYONE believe this Sh*t anymore?) , or even showing itself as the injured party..
The site’s only defence, I thought, resided in the fact that people hosting “legitimate” files could be assured they would still be available 5 years later (for example)..notwithstanding also, the fact that storing copyrighted material is NOT, HAS NEVER BEEN, AND IN FACT COULD NOT EVEN BE, illegal.
However, after seeing what appears to be incompetence, hubris to the nTH degree, downright corruption, and dishonesty on the part of the prosecution, I have NO CHOICE, as any other person with integrity would also have, but to side with Mr Kim Dotcom and Co.
