Google Is The Piracy Leader, Says Rupert Murdoch

Rupert Murdoch, media tycoon, founder and Chairman and CEO of News Corporation, is not happy with the White House’s response to the pending anti-piracy bills.

Earlier today the Obama administration said that copyright enforcement should not lead to censorship, but Murdoch sees things differently.

“Obama has thrown in his lot with Silicon Valley paymasters,” he said on Twitter.

Google is the worst.

According to Murdoch, Google is the “piracy leader,” for allowing people to upload videos to YouTube.

Right….

Thats because people can read news online before his shitty papers can publish it.

Oh! My word! Someone with more money than you is lobbying against you? Let that be a lesson, your beloved pay-for-law-practices are a double edged sword.

How’s it feel now that the shoe is on the other foot?
You like the taste of your own medicine?
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

I wonder how much money the MAFIAA put into this only to have Google smite them down with a MUCH larger figure to put in congress’ pockets.

NOW — We need to get more laws passed PROTECTING our freedom from bills like SOPA so we will have safeguards to block EVEN THE POSSIBLITY of a totalitarian bill like SOPA.

      • http://twitter.com/icanhazsake Ninja

It’s amusing because the techies weren’t concerned with lobbying till the point Rupert, MAFIAA and the rest of the greedy, rotten bastards pushed things too far. Add that to the fact that the tech pockets are way deeper than the MAFIAA pockets and we have a doomsday scenario building against the MAFIAA. Not to mention that ppl are much more sympathetic towards the techies nowadays than towards the MAFIAA.

Frosty, they dug their own graves ;)

I’m just waiting for News Corp to be booted off Youtube and Google entirely.

Seems like the best way to ensure that their material isn’t uploaded without permission.

Its nice to hear his insanity in first person rather than talking heads on his news networks.

    • http://torrentfreak.com/ Rob8urcakes

Yep, he’s a senile old fart whose greed knows no bounds – including the immoral use of his media outlets to campaign against political parties standing for election if they dare to upset him.

So if he wants to support anti-piracy via the censorship proposals in SOPA and PIPA, then such censorship should first be directed on his own media empire – because it regularly interferes in the democratic franchise and the political process with his empire’s unfair access to “freedom of speech” that the rest of us worldwide don’t have.

      Cream pie anyone?

it’s no coincidence that the last 3 (elected) British Prime Ministers received front page support on his newspapers before being elected – whilst their opponents were marginalised and criticised on each occasion!

He’s a prime example of an outdated gatekeeper complaining about being surpassed by new technology – does that sound familiar?

  • Tiger97a

he is the thief stealing content from dead peoples cell phones, trying to make money off other peoples misery and then lying to the people about it. yea he is a saint.

Starts his business many moons ago to fight the elitests of the time, becomes an elitest, and then attacks the new economy. Hell, why not? Hacking a dead girls phone was acceptable, so this is no issue for him.

I don’t think Rupert Murdoch is in any position to question the ethics or integrity of anyone else.

SOPA’s supporters can’t attack opposing arguements, so they lash out at the opponents instead. Very typical in modern politics.

Sorry for not posting anything better than this.

This guy is a joke. Didn’t he pay people to hack prince William and his fifes phone and emails

    • LOL

      And his drum’s… ^_^

  • Guest

Correct me if I am wrong but there is a world of difference bwtween downloading and hacking peoples phones.

    Downloading.
If you like what you download you buy it therefore no one has suffered any loss or harm.

    Hacking peoples phones.
Causes nothing but pain stress and anxiety nothing good comes of this kind of behaviour.

So s others have said Murdoch is in no position to play the guy with morals and also as others have said just die already for fuck sake.

    • bic

Murdoch is a part of the Corporatocracy. Too bad. Everyone who watches his media and the media of the ilk like him are subject to his/their ideas without thinking critically.

how are actors being hurt? Their already being paid 10 what they should be

    • Guest

All actors want to be paid 20 million per movie. Anything less and they have a difficult time buying a loaf of bread.

      • DannyUfonek

And if they get less than 30 million, then they have to live on the street and beg

I sense many amounts of complete butt-hurt from this guy. He’s one of the prime examples of the very people who simply just don’t want technology to advance. Too stubborn to accept change. Well, technology is going to advance whether you’re dead or not, Murdoch.

Actors are overpaid sissies who have long forgotten what it’s like to be human.

I don’ know SOPA in details, but for me regarding piracy, if the basic principles are :
    1) against piracy centers and not end users (always centers in piracy due to the need for catalogs and search amongst other things, “peer to peer” also a lot of hypocrisy in the terms and everybody knows it)
    2) No monitoring at all of end users flow, collect of their IPs a formal complaint from somebody about a user acting as a center
    3) All procedures are legal and public
Then it clearly is the right way to do it, not to forget that if piracy doesn’t create any revenues for authors and creators, it does create some (and not a little) for some people :

Note : above more developed below (but in French) :

And “zero piracy” doesn’t matter in anyway (not more than school kids exchanging files), problem is when it becomes the default and easiest access method for works and publications.
But on this, in order to have a real “user experience” added value in buying instead of pirating, and this in a non quasi monopolistic environment (or with just 2 or three “monsters”), clearly something like below would be required :

  • Fittechguy

Does anyone even believe the mainstream media anymore?

  • Mr. Putin

Just thought I’d say… I support Fleshgod Apocalypse (the band) I have a dirty secret. I pirated all there albums! :O

I came across the band through Grooveshark and downloaded the albums at 4shared (which both are have legal issues)… if it wasn’t for the internet I’d not have found this awsome band (yeah… in my opinion).

Today I brought a band tshirt from them for £25. If it wasn’t for the internet and piracy I’d not have given them anything.

    Thank you piracy!!

Murdock is so concerned for the actors? How many actors are being shut out of work due to the very practices that Murdoch is arguing for? There are a few very wealthy actors and the big corporations have done a wonderful job of making it that way, limiting opportunities for new artists.

How many hopeful musicians out there never got a shot because the big corporation wouldn’t roll out the red carpet for them?

Murdoch would love to maintain the illusion that we need all the middle men, maintain the illusion that people aren’t good enough! It’s a very delicate process of finding sincerity and valuing ones self that is the wellspring of talent. The big business of talent would have us chained to a sense of inadequacy that they instill!

  • Rekrul

Piracy leader is Google who streams movies free, sells advts around them. No wonder pouring millions into lobbying.

“Pouring millions into lobbying”, unlike the movie and music industries?

  • Guest

Unlike most others, Google lobbying doesn’t consist of attempting to restrict citizens free speech, quite the opposite.

    • Derek

Mr Murdoch – has a twitter account however as usual he did not use it, probably his secretary or his stategists. Google so far has given the common people of this world freedom. Mr Murdoch and the other elitists giants do not want freedom of choice they want freedom to own the websites one visits and the freedom to pay for access to these websites. I am glad for the people that their is resolve out their and Google seem to be for the people and censorship free I hope.

      • Angry Guest

Iunno man, i actually think that’s him on there.
If it was a secretary they’d pick someone who could use hashtags and replies, and probably someone a bit more coherent.

  • Jan

A lot of people pay the money to go see the movie, they end up downloading it afterwards because they liked it. Then there is the other folks that can not afford to go to the movies, so they download. A lot of actors have other work other then acting, if they do not, too bad for them. I say YEAH for piracy!

  • Zan

please someone pop a balloon behind his head, see if it gives him a coronary.
