The Pirate Bay, Torrentspy and mininova have entered the top 200 most popular websites on the Internet. The recent boost in traffic was caused by the downtime that Isohunt, another popular BitTorrent site is currently suffering.

Isohunt and Friends Taken Down by the MPAA

Isohunt.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent search engines was taken offline by its ISP. The takedown is most likely related to the lawsuit initiated by the MPAA last year.

Torrentspy Most Popular BitTorrent Site of 2006

Torrentspy ended 2006 as the most popular BitTorrent site in terms of traffic. Mininova settled in second place this year. Last year’s winner, The Pirate bay, ended up in third place.

Isohunt Adopts Podtropolis

Podtropolis, the popular “Ipod” torrent site had to close its doors a couple of weeks ago. Podtropolis had financial problems and wasn’t able to pay the bills.
But it looks like things changed for the better. Gary from Isohunt.com came to the rescue…. At Podtropolis we read:

Targetpoint is buying BitTorrent sites

Targetpoint, an ad-company that is offering targeted ads is targeting BitTorrent sites. Targetpoint recognizes the potential that most BitTorrent sites have, and is already a partner of several torrent sites. Most of the time it stays with serving ads on a pay per click basis, but they sometimes go even further, and try to buy these sites.

Is BitTorrent Inc. messing with the MPAA?

In November 2005 BitTorrent and the MPAA announced that they were going to cooperate in the “war against piracy”. The agreement was called a “historic event” and a “major breakthrough”. But now, 4 months later BitTorrent.com is still indexing pirated movies and other copyrighted material.

Niteshdw to settle and Isohunt to fight the MPAA

It’s almost a month after the MPAA targeted 5 of the bigger torrent sites. In the meanwhile Isohunt has been planning to fight the MPAA and is currently raising money to do so. Niteshdw on the other hand doesn’t have the money to fight and tries to settle without taking too much damage.

The MPAA filed lawsuits against Torrentspy, Isohunt, Torrentbox, Niteshadow and Bthub. This could have a huge impact on the BitTorrent community since Torrentspy and Isohunt are two of the most frequently visited torrent sites.
