Written by Ernesto on January 26, 2009

The top 10 most downloaded movies on BitTorrent, “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” tops the chart this week, followed by the screener of “Australia”.

madagascarThere are a lot of newcomers in this week’s list, 7 in total.

Despite all the efforts from the movie industry to prevent “Australia” from being cammed in theaters, it was an insider who got it out in DVD quality.

The data for our weekly download chart is collected by TorrentFreak, and is for informational and educational reference only. Currently both DVDrips, DVD Screeners and R5 rips are counted.

Adelaide, South Australia

Few others I remembered are:

The Escapist (2008) – A career criminal & accomplices mastermind an escape from prison after he finds out his daughter has become a drug addict. I couldn't find the scene release of this (seems to not even be at major scene FTPs unfortunately) so I had to get Klaxxon release – quality is fine though.

The Promotion (2008) – who knew, Seann William Scott can actually – gasp – be fairly funny and – gasp – act! Comedy about 2 guys competing to be appointed store manager at a new supermarket.

Man on Wire (2008) – documentary about tightrope walker Philippe Petit who, in the 70's, did incredible and daring tightrope walks across many famous structures culminating in his famous walk between the tops of the World trade Centre. Breathtaking, one of the best doco's I've seen

Your website sucks, Roze.

Let there be a sea change in how culture, how movies work… let the MPAA and RIAA fall!

4 Jan 26, 2009 at 16:35 by NubCakes

Er… isn't XIII -The Conspiracy a TV mini-series ?

5 Jan 26, 2009 at 16:35 by Roze

And the members of the MPAA are continuing to make more and more money…

Any recommendations guys?

Other than 1,5 and 10 from the above list I have missed the others.

I kind of trust your opinions more than download charts and bastardly online "professional critic reviews"

Thanks!

My recommendations – make of them what you will:

Rocknrolla – Guy Ritchie returns in another British gangster film… the characters are perhaps not as likeable as Snatch or Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Guns but it's still a great film.

Australia – Epic in the true sense of the word from one of AUs great directors Baz Luhrman. I'm Aussie so perhaps slightly biased here :P

Zack & Miri make a Porno – Comedy. Often predictable but well made for what it is with genuine performances given.
.
Gran Torino – Clint Eastwood stars and directs in this feel good story about urban change and relationships between generations.

Other films i've watched recently that are not on the Top 10 that I can recommend:

[REC] (2007) – Spanish film concerning government conspiracy. The recently released (pirated) Quarantine is heavily based on [REC] but manages to screw it up.

Blow (2001) – (probably most have seen this already… it's old but I only just watched) Based on the true story of one of the largest cocaine importers from the USA. Superb film.

In Bruges (2008) – Two hitmen arrive in the city of Bruges having messed up a job and await the consequences. Best film I've watched in a long time.

Die Welle (The Wave – 2007?) – German: A high school teacher shows his students how a fascist regime implements control and support of people.

How To Lose Friends And Alienate People (2008?) – Simon Pegg stars as a wannabe critical, leftwing journalist reporting on celebrities and is offered a job at a leading magazine which he fails at miserably.

Frost/Nixon (2008) – Based on true events, tells the story of David Frost and his pivotal interview with Richard Nixon after his impeachment. Intense, psychological movie which had me glued to the screen.

Frozen River (2008) – Another Clint Eastwood directed film about 2 poor and downtrodden people smuggling contraband from Canada into the USA.

Swing Vote is appalling, I almost stopped watching.

I don't think that Gran Torino has a better release than a DVDscr right now. So I guess there's a missing label in the list.

9 Jan 26, 2009 at 17:28 by EZEE

"Swing Vote is appalling, I almost stopped watching." & "Blow" = totally agree with you, seems like we have pretty much the same tastes.

Thanks, will check out the flicks you mentioned.

Which part of Australia if you dont mind me asking? I have rellies there… and might be visiting middle/3Q of this year.

Have a good one!

Cheers!

I had a difficult time finding a Benjamin Button rip with decent sound that didn't sound tunnely. Anyone find a decent rip?

11 Jan 26, 2009 at 18:19 by NubCakes

I got Devise's release. Sound & video are both excellent – however it has two places where the video and audio skips suddenly. I've been told it misses approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds all up although I haven't seen a complete version so this is hearsay. I've been told it misses nothing too important and I had no trouble following the storyline in any case.

There's an XSCR release that I've been told has no skips as well.

"Tunnelly" sound often occurs with LINE or cam source audio so make sure you get DVD screener rip.

There's a retail DVDrip out there now.

"Adelaide" – Cool! I think Billy Connaly performed there a while back, did you go for it? (Am a huge BC fan)
Thanks for the other flick reviews, looks like i have a lot of catching up to do.

Cheers!

Loved "Man on Wire", "In Bruges" & "Blow" too. *slurp* :P

"Frost/Nixon" was a tad over-hyped for me. Loved Michael Sheen as Frost (cracking as Tony Blair too, in "The Queen") but the usually-impeccable Frank Langella seemed a little unconvincing in his role (huge shoes to fill, tho. Nixon was a right nutbar… =] )

"Che Part One" was class – can't wait for Pt. 2. "Milk" was surprisingly compelling for me – a hetero guy. "The Hurt Locker" was ok, if you're into Iraq conflict movies. "The Crew" is an amusing scouse take on gangster flicks.

Off to watch "W" now, but I've heard it's not brutal enough & shows Dubya to have a heart – all lies… :P

If you can get in before invites close here's a new recommendation search engine as well that seems to work kinda nicely.

<a href=”http://arstechnica.com/web/news/2009/01/hands-on-…” target=”_blank”>http://arstechnica.com/web/news/2009/01/hands-on-…

500 invites available for any reader of that article, I was #9 – get in quick, it's been Dugg.

Or leave your email here in this comment and I'll send you one – 5 invites left.

If you don't never mind, it'll be open when it goes past beta testing.

Actually I don't have direct access – I wish – but as I know 2 private torrent site owners that do have topsite axx I can request and usually get whatever I request uploaded at those 2 sites … if it's there.

I find Usenet keeps me pretty much sorted though – I only find myself asking for rare and/or not so popular stuff mostly and not very often either. Usenet in general has stuff uploaded directly after it's pre'd – beating all but the most exclusive scene trackers (FTN, SCC, GFT, ACE etc.) for pre times (generally) and is always full speed downloading all the time. So is faster than topsite -> seedbox -> home anyways :) Plus there's an abundance of non-scene stuff such as full website rips, comics … etc. etc.

You pays $15 – $30/month for Usenet provider, depending on retention time – and yes it matters which provider you go with, some are crap as far as full coverage goes. I pay $25 for Giganews, so everything is available for 240 days but you can opt for cheaper with less retention time. Getting a Newzbin account isn't essential but is certainly good as far as easy searching, full listing with ability to search at any level (group, catagory/genre/type, post, poster etc.) combined with "verification" with comments (newzbin reports). It's kinda nice to have everything in 1 place all the time with no hassles about seed numbers/availablity or ISP throttling. But that's me, each to their own.

He’s into hentai.

22 Jan 27, 2009 at 14:24 by dollop

According to a post on your website Roze, you had sex with your sister is this true?

23 Jan 27, 2009 at 15:55 by Roze

No.

24 Jan 27, 2009 at 15:57 by Roze

I have no sisters.

25 Jan 27, 2009 at 15:58 by Roze

No. That post was a copy+paste of a news article.

26 Jan 27, 2009 at 22:12 by freetard

well, it’s pretty obvious you’re some teenage, anti-social loser with delusions of grandeur so that puts you in the right demographic, and then there’s all the links you’ve posted which were predominantly of japanese cartoons depicting young, half naked, cartoon girls…

but forgive me if i’m reading too much into it, lololol

35 Jan 27, 2009 at 20:18 by Roze

Interesting. How did you come up with that?

36 Jan 27, 2009 at 20:34 by mellow candle

Freetard, just curious, are you one of those homophobic holier-than-thou bigots?

40 Jan 28, 2009 at 10:22 by fr33tard

homophobic? please show me where i've ever said anything remotely homophobic…i dare you.

LULZ … hang on, what? :P

42 Jan 28, 2009 at 11:27 by Sinbad

I didn't even know there was a XIII movie. Does it suck?

43 Jan 28, 2009 at 12:24 by Widget

You didn't, it's just the feeling I get from you. You seem to be one of those people who will just go along with whatever people tell you is the truth and refuse to change your mind regardless of whatever common sense or logic tells you (in this case, that we're bad for the RIAA/MPAA's CEO's pockets)

44 Jan 28, 2009 at 13:38 by bjh,gj

i thought this was a comment section of Top 10 most Pirated films on Bittorent…not whether or not Roze is into hentai

45 Jan 28, 2009 at 13:42 by hsdgfs

i'm suggesting that your intimate conversation with a random person on a public blog comment section..is a bit obscure, especcially talking about where you are from, whoose reletives you have and whether you saw billy connely

on another note, happy australia day for monday

46 Jan 28, 2009 at 13:44 by sdfgs

i thought this was a blog bout bittorent not usenet or piracy in general.

otherwise it would be called UsenetFreak

47 Jan 28, 2009 at 15:32 by dollop

you removed the post….lol…

48 Jan 29, 2009 at 06:14 by fr33tard

well you're intuition apparently sucks. i have nothing against gay guys and i love lesbians (the lipstick variety, not the flannel clad dogs).

RIAA/MPAA continue to stifle free speech and world communication for their own profit. movie makers/writers continue to express content that demands wider reception among peoples needs for understanding each other. RIAA/MPAA continues to act irresponsibly to protect only its own anti-democratic capitalisms and selfish motives. movie/music makers have now become more focused on making content that is desired, relevant and of better quality with the vast exposure thru free share and user reviews. to heck with New York/Hollywood reviewers, greedy middlemenand political tyrants. people of the world rule!
