BitTorrent Tests Live-Streaming With DJ Janaka Selekta.

At 5PM PDT BitTorrent Inc., the makers of uTorrent, will do a beta test of their live streaming technology.

“If you’re hanging out and want to be a part of something very cool tomorrow, well then we might have your Friday night ticket,” the BitTorrent team announces.

“We’re suiting up for an early R&D technology test, which is open to anyone interested in helping us move our Live Streaming technology forward.”

BitTorrent will be streaming an online show featuring San Francisco’s popular DJ/Producer Janaka Selekta on live.bittorrent.com

Previously BitTorrent inventor Bram Cohen told TorrentFreak that his technology will outperform all competition. Those who are curious to see if that’s indeed the case should definitely check in tonight.

It’s finally coming together. Soon Youtube and all other video streaming sites will run bittorrent p2p assisted servers, then the media conglomerates will be shaking in their boots because there will be nothing they can do to stop bittorrent. ISPs who throttle the connections will recieve complaints about websites like Youtube & such not working correctly… It will be a glorious new beginning & protection for the greatest p2p technology ever known…

The joy! I’m truly hoping it works. ISPs will have to review their up pipes or simply leave the bw open to be used as needed (ie: with 100mbit you can do either 100mbit up, 100mbit down or a mix of both). I can see this forcing some neutrality on the net.

And I can see MAFIAA being wary of it even though it has the ability to further reduce the distribution costs for streaming stuff.

Next step is unifying stuff. Steam uses its own network, blizzard uses its own network etc. We need further integration and ways to LIMIT how much bw and connections they use.

The problem with that is… if nobody else is downloading/watching the video, then nobody can watch it. It will still definitely have to be relied upon my main servers. While in theory it’s great, I don’t see the possibilities coming JUST yet.

That, or I have no idea how BitTorrent works. Although, I thought I did.

The technology is already implemented in Bittorrent: Webseeding [link].

The good thing about this is, of course, that popular videos won’t use up so much bandwidth on Youtube’s side. A cheaper internet connection for Youtube means Youtube’s business model has the potential to actually become really profitable with this sort of technology! I think that will be the final nail on the coffin of the old publishers.

Yeh or get a massive lawsuit because they cannot control content that goes beyond 10 minutes and just streams movies, porn etc.

I would imagine the sites would have something similar to seedboxes,

They’ve been doing these tests for months now, and they’ve been pretty neat, although the early software was pretty user unfriendly. I guess this is the first public one?
