      R5, is a copy of a movie made with a Telecine machine from an analog source and is typically of a lower quality than other region releases. Telecine is transferring motion picture film into video.

          Um i gave the exact definition of an r5 aswell as what a telecine is so who exactly is dumb do you mind explaining yourself? The quality on r5 usually are better then t.s. which are directly from theater.That basically amounts to shit.

        Yeah, that’s an R5. They also, as a side note, originate from Russia. Then there’s also R3s which is the same thing. Except those come out of Korea (?) I believe.

        For the complete laymen though, just think of an R5 as almost dvd quality. The difference is negligible to the average person. AVERAGE. (Before someone jumps down my throat over that. Not aiming that at you Elisa.)

        Essentially, as I think someone may have already said, they’re copies (sold by the studios or their distributors, I believe) that are released in those countries to beat the pirated copies sold on the street.

          lol thanks i didn’t know r5 was russia. But i do know what a telecine is and cannedhate said i was searching torrent sites, lmao.

          I honestly haven’t touched torrents in so long but i have other ways of getting movies. Besides going to theatres with friends lol. I like r5′s though they are watchable sometimes out of sync but i can handle it. i know average lol. Lately though i have legal alternatives like music i have spotify and film hulu and boxee etc.

          Yeah, I started on Spotify this past week. I ended up with 3 invites. On 3 separate email accounts, not sure how that happened. But it’s nice to know I have them. Hulu is good too. Haven’t tried Boxee yet, but I’ve heard good things. I’ve also introduced various non-techies (which is my term for practically everyone) to those same things. Nice legal alternatives.

          The reason I know it’s from Russia is one time we got into a huge debate over Cams, Telecines, Telesyncs, R5s, Screeners, etc at a bar. How it came up I have no idea, but we started arguing about what they were (this was years ago) and the differences between them. Yay smartphones! Because if it hadn’t been for actually looking them up, we might’ve argued for even longer.

          And cool. I’ll check it out shortly. (Stupid Dashboard wasn’t letting me post from there, Disqus appears to randomly hate me. It will rue the day! [shakes fist at sceen])

          lol my brother gave me an invite and only my friends I gave through my private email.My play around email i use to give out invites with to online friends etc..

          I have my social email and my private email. I ended up with hulu player which works excellently. As far as boxee it’s really amazing. I turned my computer into an entertainment center plus apps etc. Something to try out.There is also a boxee box which i want so badly.

          Lol the bar is a place many discussions come up with. Disqus is strange take your time. No worries. ;)

      Region 5. Sometimes the audio or/and video quality is sub-par but this copy is great…
      What they usually end up having to do is sync the audio of a TS/CAM release.
      TS: TELESYNC (they connect the audio directly from the source and cam the movie) (I THINK)
      CAM: Just film the movie with a cam. period.

        Ever notice how the quality of cameras continues to improve, the size of them gets smaller, and the price drops every year..but the quality of cams and ts’s for the most part are the same as they were 10 years ago? Not including the golden age of course (Maven, CTP, VideoCD, ORC) but just about everything that isn’t an R5 these days looks like it was made with something fisher price would sell at toys’r'us.

    Video of DVD quality married up to Audio of DVD quality.
    Synced together from different sources
    More often than not with a few minutes of the proper DVD missing..
    Also seen Video of Cam quality attached to a sub par audio
    Also labelled R5.
    The comments above are correct about region 5.
    But R5 as more interpretations these days.
    In fact some R5s are indistinguishable.from DvdRips.
    Just the honesty of the uploader gives the game away.

      Well, some of us wanted to try out Spotify. See what all the fuss is about. It gets talked about often enough by people from the U.K. over on Engadget. I gave it a try for half an hour. As for Hulu, hey come on. It’s a quick fix on the go. Use it on my rooted Nook Color. But pay for the services Premium side, I think not. Also, it helps to try out those things. The groups claim that piracy is run amok, by sticking solely with pirating goods you only prove their point. By giving a quick test to their offerings you can become better informed. And thus are able to critique their offerings and point out their short comings.

      I mean come on, I’m typing this on my Windows 7 running laptop. Microsoft is cracking down hardcore on people in other countries (namely Russia and the Asia region) running pirated copies of Windows And Microsoft Office. I don’t support that, but I do happen to prefer Windows. And absolutely enjoy Windows 7 (not like their terrible venture that was Windows Vista). Surely by your point of view using a copy of Windows (which I did semi-pay for in that it came with the laptop when I purchased it new a year ago) that isn’t pirated, I’m supporting their software and business model and thus ruining the pirate community. But that’s not the case.

    You know what would stop this – extended trailers for free online (clip samples). How many movies do people DL watch 10mins and trash. On this list as always maybe 50% are worth paying for. How many other business do you pay for what you don’t like! You got to a restaurant food sucks don’t pay leave. Try doing that at the cinema. No refunds for people who walk out.

    Problem is in 30 second marketing clips they all look good. I think people download movies sometimes just to have a look before investing in the cinema experience. Don’t care how big a TV you got it never bets the cinema. But there is nothing more frustrating than a night out wasted by a bad movie via a marketing trailer.

    TS etc suck and I don;t think the big movies even get dented by them and many do only DL for a quick look before selecting at the cinema.

    There is another area they can’t get right and blame pirates for.

      doesn’t need a big tv to beat cinema… sensible size tv, half decent 5.1 system, beats going to the cinema for me every time… i can drink a few beers, have a smoke, pause to go to the loo. eat popcorn for pennies not £££s. seriously, people that say the “cinema experience” is better imo must be either under 9 years old or retarded

      on a side note R5′s would be all well and good if they actually had line english audio when tagged as, i stopped downloading them a year or more ago, cam audio sucks
