Turbobit.net Blocks US Visitors After MegaUpload Shutdown

In the aftermath of the MegaUpload shutdown, file-hosting sites continue to change their services.

After Uploaded.to, another prominent cyberlocker has decided to block all US visitors.

Turbobit.net users from the US now see the following message when they attempt to download a file.

“Our service is currently unavailable in your country. Sorry about that.”

The site does still have a partner program where uploaders can earn money based on the number of times their files are copied.

I understand that US consumers aren’t directly responsible for the shit thats flying around, and so they shouldn’t be blocked, but on the other side, it raises the frustration against their own goverment even more.
Also since most of the time the rest of the world gets this kind of messages from US sites, what goes around comes around :D

I totally agree with and I LIVE in the United States! And if Americans don’t wake up and open their eyes: OOPS!!! To late people because our government has already opened Pandora’s box and it’s the responsibility of the American people to try and close it and not the rest of the world. It’s now or never!!! And I won’t hide behind any alias either. My name is Richard “Cookie” Garris.

        /added to FBI watch list

        • Anonymous

Well if you are he real MAFIAA then you also need to know that censoring the internet is only a small part of what we need to fix about our country. And if I am on an FBI watch list then you can add this as well. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” That’s the first amendment giving me and all other American citizens the freedom to peaceably voice our concerns and grievances to all who will listen guaranteed to us under our Bill of Rights. You are only proving what I wrote in my previous statement. I love my country but it is slowly turning into something our founding fathers never meant for it to be. Our government is worried about file sharing when there are countless children living on the street, starving to death EVERY day. And no I am no saint by any means. In fact I don’t consider myself a really good person. But what I do believe in is that I can try to be a better man each day because that’s what my parents taught me and their parents taught them and so on. And who cares what country a person is from. We all share the same planet and are ALL equal. If what I have written puts me on an FBI watch list then so be it. If that’s the cost of believing we can have a better world then you can keep me on it forever.
My name is Richard “Cookie” Garris.

And for your information the FBI NEVER tells a person they are on the watch list! If you would have took the time to Google it you might seem a little more credible right now. Or are you just another troll? lol!!!

But what good is going to be accomplished?
The Americans who care are already frustrated (I’m one of them).
It seems like blocking people in the US from downloading only adds fuel to the rhetoric that “foreigners” are “stealing” from the US economy. As long as US produced content is being shared they will continue to (wrongfully) insist that our economy is being grievously harmed. Simply stopping Americans from sharing means that everyone else (eek! foreigners) are benefiting from content which is often produced here. I don’t see how that protects cyberlockers at all and it may even draw more attention to them.

I can understand the frustration about not being able to view certain clips and other content because of those stupid “not available in your area” messages. All I can say on that is that you aren’t really missing that much. Most of our tv shows, movies, and music are just the same idiotic garbage over and over again.

One of the big problems here is that there are generally only two choices at an election – the democrat who is frequently funded by the copyright monopoly and the republican who believes that everything in the bible is absolutely true and we should only enact laws jesus would like. Our system makes it very difficult to form a successful third party. I don’t say this to excuse us from guilt, just to explain our own frustrations. Every citizen of a country who has bowed to pressure from the US government or the copyright industry should do their best to pressure their politicians into growing some balls and defend their people from our BS.

TL;DR: Blocking the US may not help with anything and everyone everywhere needs to defend freedom of speech.

Better to be doing some sort of resistance (even if its negative) than no resistance at all.

It’s amusing, the US are making the outside build high walls against them. Isolating themselves. Maybe that’s the purpose of the US Govt. I for one hope either they fall under their own idiocy of the Americans wake up (as it’s slowly happening right now) and cut some heads, French style.

block the US. So that only geeks and nerds can use different proxy to get the movies.

  • Colin

You can upload files just fine from the US, but you won’t be able to visit the download link for it.

    • http://profiles.google.com/zerianis10 Christopher Kidwell

Which is sheer and utter insanity….. either Turbobit should totally block America or not block at all.

  • Fulano

The solution for the americans is zevera.com this work like a proxy.

  • commenter

The US was able to take MegaUpload down because they marketed to and courted US citizens. If a site stops doing that, has no equipment or payment services in the US, they can’t be touched (technically).

Allmp3.com died after the US was able to get payment processing stopped. They have had that ability for years.

  • Chilly8

However, TurboIT users can still use a VPN to bypass the block on US visitors. While it is true you cannot use any paid services, or take part in any “rewards” program, you can will view the free stuff.

Americans gave us ‘freedom’ at the beginning, never complained about piracy until we live the American life. Then they charge us a lot soon after we get addicted to their ‘freedom’.
I won’t use pirated Microsoft, if they sell the price under $50 in my country and I won’t also use Microsoft, if I know they’ll be so strict and paranoid like this with piracy stuff.

In fact, maybe in the future they will shut down Youtube following the piracy concerns raised by the ‘most viewed video’ artist, Justin Bieber, who knows…
