US Threatened To Blacklist Spain For Not Implementing Site Blocking Law

In a leaked letter sent to Spain’s outgoing President, the US ambassador to the country warned that as punishment for not passing a SOPA-style file-sharing site blocking law, Spain risked being put on a United States trade blacklist . Inclusion would have left Spain open to a range of “retaliatory options” but already the US was working with the incoming government to reach its goals.

United States government interference in Spain’s intellectual property laws had long been suspected, but it was revelations from Wikileaks that finally confirmed the depth of its involvement.

More than 100 leaked cables showed that the US had helped draft new Spanish copyright legislation and had heavily influenced the decisions of both the government and opposition.

Now, another diplomatic leak has revealed how the US voiced its anger towards outgoing President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero last month upon realizing that his government was unlikely to pass the US-drafted Sinde (site blocking) Law before leaving office.

In a letter dated December 12th and sent by US Ambassador Alan D. Solomont to the Spanish Prime Minister’s office, the US expressed “deep concern” over the failure to implement the SOPA-style censorship law.

“The government has unfortunately failed to finish the job for political reasons, to the detriment of the reputation and economy of Spain,” read the letter obtained by El Pais.

Racing against the clock in the final days of the government, Solomont had one last push.

“I encourage the Government of Spain to implement the Sinde Law immediately to safeguard the reputation of Spain as an innovative country that does what it says it will, and as a country that breeds confidence,” he wrote.

But along with the pleas came the stick.

In the letter, which was also sent to Minister of Culture Ángeles González-Sinde after whom the law is named, Solomont noted that Spain is already on the Special 301, the annual report prepared by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) detailing ‘trade barriers’ based on intellectual property issues.

Solomont’s threat was that should Spain not pass the Sinde Law (described by some as the Spanish SOPA) then the country would be degraded further and placed on the Priority Watch List. This serious step would mean that Spain was in breach of trade agreements and could be subjected to a range of “retaliatory actions”.

In the event Zapatero’s government left office without passing the law, but the incoming Partido Popular (People’s Party) were quickly pressured by the US to take the necessary action.

In another media leak it’s now been revealed that American Chamber of Commerce in Spain chief Jaime Malet wrote a cautionary letter to incoming Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy. He warned of the potential flight of foreign investment from Spain and urged him to take action on the protection of intellectual property once in office.

“[The law's] lack of approval before the elections has been a blow to the country’s seriousness in this matter of such importance,” said Malet, while urging Rajoy to “to retrieve the consensus reached.”

Rajoy’s government quickly responded and fully implemented the legislation within 10 days of taking office.

That is what some of the “THE UNITED STATES RULES!” fucktards in the world would like the rest of the world to do. Thankfully, even as an American born citizen, I realize that our country is not perfect and is not THAT much better than other countries around the world.

“not THAT much better than other countries around the world.” is a huge overstatement, it should read: not THAT worse than Cuba and China and North Korea when it comes to civil rights.
I guess this is an example of why USA is being hated more and more around the world, because of their interference in foreign “souvereign” states afairs and politics. I guess the general American (USA) citizen has a concrete wall in front of him thinking USA is better than ANY country in the world.

if you think we’re still at the top dude, you’re quite a bit mistaken.

we’re quickly and steadily heading into basically nazi germany + north korea here, and it’s been happening over 30 years and has quickened lately. Our country is as bleak as it’s economic outlook as well. AS our economy’s gotten worse, the cronies have gotten more desperate.

Think it’s not that bad? The gov’t has current authority to jail and kill anyone at any time without any court oversight, explanation, or hearing. What is basically “Texass” is now the entire nation thanks to idiotic laws being passed (and people having no idea what goes on in our country).

“not THAT worse than Cuba and China and North Korea when it comes to civil rights.”

Uh huh. Want to back that up. Because, last time I looked, the U.S. actually allows political opposition. I’m not seeing that in any of those countries you mentioned.

You can dislike the U.S. for its many faults, but stick within the bounds of reality. Simple fact; the U.S. is not nearly as bad as the dictatorships in the world. Does that mean it meets the standards of other developed nations; no. But when you claim things that are patently untrue, you demean all the real problems the country has, especially the ones that are easy to fix. For example, our medical system could be fixed easily, but if we listened to the “America is NAZIS” crowd, we’d never know that.

“christian pedophiles in the church communities that surfaced lately and knowing this is just the ones exposed”

First, it’s Catholic not Christian. Second, actual research has found that the priests have a rate of pedophilia that is equal to or less than the rate of the average population. There are two problems that we can see if we actually look at the pedophilia scandals; one, that church officials from here to Rome defended the pedophiles and moved them out of country (and this didn’t just happen in America, it happened all across Europe). Secondly, that anti-Catholic prejudice is still high enough that people just accept the “priests are pedophiles” idea without looking at the problem with any scientific rigor. (Before anyone gets on me for this, just want to say that I am an atheist, and as an atheist, I seek the truth. The pedophilia thing simply isn’t the truth, even if it would be very convenient to my beliefs.

Argue based on the real world and maybe you’ll turn some heads. Or maybe not. Sensationalism works everywhere else, I see no reason why it shouldn’t work for you.

          @Guest:

I don’t need to back that up because when you read what I say, I say what you say : not that WORSE than china cuba etc. … but ok you overlooked that that means that they are actually a bit better than the dictatorships f.e..

but I understand reading is difficult.

next catholics ARE christians and if you checked your stats, it is not ONLY the catholics, it is a widespread problem in ALL religions that have Abraham / Ibrahim as their predecessor. As far as for the truth… guess mine is a little closer to reallity than yours apparently, as counts for sensationalism twisting my words to all priests… read again ” all ….. that surfaced” guess sensationalsim is more you than me..

So where does that leave me and you to argue about??

Answer (epic fail) your inabillity to read maybe..hehe

        • TomoYo

The NDAA has counterparts in other countries. For example, it’s law in Canada that fundamental rights may, if emergency necessitates, be suspended for 5 years, with openings for further suspension if authorities believe it is necessary. Canadian lawyers have argued that this allows for the assassination of And that’s a relatively liberal one. If you want to look at countries like China or North Korea, they don’t even take the pretense that they aren’t allowed to kill or imprison citizens for whatever reason they please. He’s claiming the U.S. is the worst. I claim that he’s full of shit.

Also, your “drone attacks” are not widespread, and in fact only really apply to Anwar al-Awlaki, who had been living in Yemen coordinating terrorist actions for years. He acted as an enemy, and lived outside of U.S. jurisdiction. His killing is not evidence of the totalitarian state you and the others argue for. (I do find it interesting that people find rights to be relative; i.e., it’s acceptable to assassinate a Yemeni terrorist in Yemen, but not an American one. Funny stuff).

If you ask me, the U.S. gets crap is doesn’t deserve for two reasons (and before I go on, it does deserve a ton of the crap it gets. It has some problems, but funnily enough, it’s detractors actually miss most of the major ones. Example; I’ve never seen a detractor talk about the Gatekeeper policy for medicine, even though it’s probably the biggest source of unnecessary overhead. No, it’s just “THEY LET PEOPLE DIE ON THE STREETS!!!!, even though that’s actually illegal for hospitals.). One; it has been the military power for quite a while. That’s a focal point for disapproval, regardless of actual policy. Two, and probably more importantly; it is willing to talk about it’s social ills. Take a country in Europe and Asia, and social problems can be seen as shameful things, to be hidden instead of discussed. When I lived in France, I didn’t see many newspaper articles exploring some of the fundamental injustices of my society. When I moved to the U.S., I did. You don’t see Michael Moore documentaries exploring the sins of other countries the same way you do about the U.S. This creates the implicit assumption in many that the problems are unique to the U.S. It’s a form of awareness bias. But, not anything I can do about that.

        • Jcondo82

          @TomoYo

Those were just two examples, how about the CIA kidnapping and torture of German national Khalid El-Masri? Or our marines entering into a home and killing children at night without any sort of reprimand? 100,000 citizens of Iraq who were killed? Probably more people than all the American citizens killed in terrorist attacks in the past century.

Personally I think assassination of anyone is wrong, U.S. citizen or not, but the thing that makes two citizens killed by Obama different is Obama, and our military took an oath to defend the constitution, and spreading propaganda is protected under the constitution under the first amendment.

… I think you need to review what you wrote my friend. “Not That worse” does not equate to “better than”. If it was “not worse”, then what you are saying would be correct. However, saying “not that worse”, has the meaning “not much worse than”, which has the meaning that the initial object is worse than the secondary one. I won’t be held responsible for your failure to communicate. However, I will accept that this in not what you meant to say. I’ll modify my statement then to not that many other countries that are not dictatorships can be much more restrictive than the U.S. I’ll use Singapore as the prototypical example. They are technically a democracy, but they have police enforcement to party rules, and have huge restrictions on the freedom of the press (a problem that the U.S. actually does not have, for once). In this regard, I’ll leave my previous statements as a response to Mat_t, and say to you that you don’t acknowledge the vast majority of countries in the world. It seems as if you have knowledge of two areas “Europe” and “China/dictatorships”, without knowledge of anything in between. What about Singapore, Malyasia, The prosperous African states? Any of the states in the developing index?

Regarding pedophilia, if you read the news, the problem is regarded as a specifically Catholic problem (and yes, I know Catholics are Christian, but Christians make a large distinction between the different demonstrations, even if you don’t). I’ll direct you now to this study (or rather, this article about the study results, as I can’t access the database I normally use when I’m on vacation.)

          http://www.americancatholic.org/news/clergysexabuse/johnjaycns.asp
I have more studies in this vein archived if you want to see those too.

If you actually use scientific data, you find that Catholics and priests of abrahamic religions, and most religions, have rate of pedophilia and abuse equal to or lower than the rate for the general populace. As before stated, the problem they have is that they chose to manage the cases without the aid of the police, and in 11% of the cases, no action was taken. This policy was officially changed in 2009 by the Vatican

Data doesn’t lie, and you can’t make a claim that contradicts the data. I know this goes against the “religion is evil” dogma, but if you’re going to hate religion, hate it for real reasons. Hate it for the hate it inspires in others. Hate it for the violence it leads to. Don’t hate it for pedophilia, because they don’t have that problem.

          Science my friend; it works.

        • Kinglewy00

Not that much better? You’re one of the worst countries in the world and I’d rather live in Libya than America.

        • TomoYo

          First;
“spreading propaganda is protected under the constitution under the first amendment. ”

Not if the direct purpose of the propaganda is to incite violence. Propaganda saying “the U.S. government sucks” is protected. Propaganda saying “kill U.S. citizens” is not. Free speech does not mean you can say whatever you want. There are limitations. Slander; inciting direct harm; etc.

“Or our marines entering into a home and killing children at night without any sort of reprimand?”

Citation? I’ve googled this, and I’m not finding anything. I found a few instances that resulted in dishonorable discharges, and three cases that resulted in life imprisonments for the marines involved, but not any that resulted in no action. I’ll withhold judgement until I know what you’re specifically referring to.

All of your examples seem to be regarding the actions of the military in the Iraq war… not any actions taken within the U.S. against civil freedoms. Not that war is an acceptable thing, but It’s hardly evidence of the tyrannical state that you’re arguing for.

I will agree with the torture example. Torture is barbaric, and shouldn’t have any place in a civilized nation. It has been a continued disappointment that this policy hasn’t been significantly shifted. This is an area where the U.S. is behind all other developed countries.

You’re correct about the 100,000 being more than the number of U.S. citizens killed in the past century. No doubt. However, that doesn’t work as an argument if you’re going to claim this as evidence of a tyrannical government in the U.S. (particularly since the U.S. military was not the primary actor behind most of those deaths).

The final point I have to make here is that you aren’t making a compelling case for the U.S. having a worse record on civil rights than other countries. You’re citing military abuses (an unfortunate reality of war, if not an acceptable one), but not civil abuses. To make this clear, I’m not seeing evidence of crackdown on dissident opinions or political opposition.

(As an ending note, sorry for the rudeness in the past post. I reread it, and I think I was out of line. Completely my bad. Sorry).

        • Pj152012

Or in some cases is WORSE than other countries

        • Jcondo82

          @TomoYo

Not trying to make a case on America being worse on civil liberties than other countries, sorry if you took what I said out of context. I merely gave some references to our government jailing and killing whoever they want. I don’t think America is the worst, although it’s government does seem to consider itself the supreme ruler of the world using extortion and brute force to get sovereign nations to comply.

As for the marines killing children, that’s one of the reasons we got kicked out… err, I mean withdrew from Iraq, they entered a farmhouse and slaughtered the family, then covered it up by bombing it. Its in the wikileaks cables.

        • IDIOCRACY

@ Guest again and last time, got to sleep too hehe.

I guess using 5 languages during the day and a 2 year old yelling kid yanking my USB mouse/keyboard cable might get one confused, you’re absolutely right, there should have been 1 word replaced : “then” had to be “as” which is in my native language the same.
Thank you for pointing out the semantics to me.

However if you take a look at the whole post you will see that it is not that important for the post as a whole, it is not the focus and neither is the hypocracy in the “god” thing and its excesses (f.e. WACO)
It is all about the concrete wall in front ot the general USA citizens nose. And THAT is the reason why for one reason the goverment is so different than the average USA citizen that thinks Holland is in Amsterdam and that people in Hungary don’t have food :P and are not even aware of the existence of al the countries you mentioned. I you ask them who Sadam Hussein was, 80% will probably tell you that it was a islamic terrorist and friend of Osama (wrong they hated eachother). NO one will tell you that it was the guy that USA government helped into power when it suited them, the same counts for the Taliban…..should I go on?? what about quantanamo bay and human rights or better Civil rights, torture by USA Government officials on non USA soil (europe f.e.). what about Vietnam…Korea, Japan..Balkan, Libia, Israel….
Or what to think of the waepons (Patriot missiles i.e.) found on board of a ship heading for korea (S) in a Finnish harbour with USA origin. …

I will tell you that a friend of mine is emigrated to another country and therefore has integration courses together with people from the USA, Iran, Irak Somalia, India, Maleisia, Fillipines,Peru Pakistan, China ,etc. They have livid discussions about this subject every day, The guy from USA keeps apologising because most of the things the people tell, he does not know. He openly admitts that USA citizens are ignorrant and dumb. He told my friend that the average USA citizen does not even know about things outside USA. He told that USA has much really bright an smart people (Mensa test above 130), but eventhough they have a lot of them, it is only 1% of the population, that makes the other 99% not bright and smart (Mensa IQ test below 90????? just a guess hehe). and 45% of those chose the government because of what they are told on tv by the ones with the most money. Is THAT a democracy??? that is why Korea (north) is better, everyone has to vote…ok only 1 choise but still… you get my point??

          No??
ok lets talk again when after USA bombed IRAN and Israel bombed Syria

Your remarks about Europe / China and the possible lack of knowledge of the rest of the world have nothing to do with this either. (f.e. I know 152 countries and there form of government, I am a little behind on the Sudan myamar and somalia / eritrea situation).
so I will disregard those remarks for now.

Having all this said, again…. all this detail is overkill, it all comes down to the concrete wall in front of the USA (citizens) Face

        • Herptyderp

        • Guest

          “puppets”

Puppets of who? Corporations? The church? Baba Yaga, the eternal space witch? I’m not buying it.

The point is that anyone could join any political party and could win. It doesn’t happen much, but it can, and that’s more than you can say of the tyrannical states.

And again, the two party system is another example of a so-called “tyranny” with a very easy fix; increase the number of congressmen.

At the beginning of the U.S., the number of congressmen was not set at 255; it grew every time a census was taken, so there would be one congress for every 60,000 or so people. That trend stopped in the early 1900s over fear of greater control going to cities over the countryside, so now, each member of congress works over an average of 600,000 people (around there at least). That decreases the ability of individual areas to elect unique parties. All that needs to happen is increasing the number of congressmen to adopt about that initial ratio, and all of a sudden, we’ve fixed the problem by limiting political power to smaller areas. More local power, and less power in the hands of each congressman, leading to less potential for abuse. After all, bribing 1 out of 255 might mean something. 1 out of 5,000 means next to nothing.

See, when we don’t hold irrational hate, fixing problems is easy.

Don’t fall for the shame of “democracy” – it’s an illusion. Voting is a complete waste of time and as Mark Twain put it, “If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.”

Spain needs to assert that its affairs are theirs and not the affairs of the country across the Atlantic. If China or the UK would have done this, the USA would have blasted them away because no one can’t tell them what to do, but they can tell the rest of the world what to do.

    • http://modmyi.com/forums/iphone-4-new-skins-themes-launches/740147-neurotech-hd.html#post5637502 Jay

I get the reference, but this isn’t America “policing”, it’s economic pressure for Spain to police themselves.

However, I think Spain should just call America’s bluff. Threatening Spain with, say, cutting off or raising the prices of media will only increase demand for it in that country, which would in-turn lead to rampant piracy into the country from neighboring countries.

    • http://ipduh.com ip intel

How come the US did not try to pull that on China?

Oh, I forgot that that they are owned by China.

    • http://twitter.com/sheepodoom SheepODoom

So my Government threatened to stop sending our shit that is made in CHINA to Spain? Sure that will work. The US does not produce much of anything anymore we IMPORT. All Spain & the rest of the world has to do is STOP Exporting to the US & there will be blood on the streets from all the riots.

Aren’t there any Politicians left with enough balls to do what the people want for once instead of taking it up the ass from Corporate America?

    • Daddy

      Balls are a rare commodity.

    • http://profiles.google.com/zerianis10 Christopher Kidwell

They aren’t ‘taking it up the ass’ from corporate America. They are being BRIBED by corporate America and others to pass these laws, with future jobs for themselves and their family members in the future.

      • James

Sounds like taking it up the ass to me. Stand up for what’s right and for your people, who elected you in the first place. Stuff America! This really pisses me off, what’s with the world, why can’t people do the right thing anymore, it’s always bout money. Fuck money, sometime in your life we all realize money isn’t worth it. Shame we can’t get wise and noble people back into politics. Maybe a revolution is the only option left to weed out the garbage.

        • cavillis

WE take it up the ass. The politicians are just selling product (political influence) and business is good.

I hope they didn’t take their bribes in USD because thats not looking to the future the USD is prob gonna crash soon as china is preparing the yuan for taking centre stage. then the USD will be worthless as china owns half of the US.

        • Luc

Nothing you said is true. The US government owes just about nothing to China, and 69% of debt is owed to Americans. USD cannot crash because it is accepted world wide and will always have value.

        • IDIOCRACY

          @ Luc
Guess you are a little wrong here, Oil states are already discussing the fact to couple their oil price and payment to the EURO, saidly enough the Greeks killed that idea, so next is the Yuan…. when USA has more debt than they can ever repay, (almost the case) it will go bankrupt and there will be huge inflation of the dollar… buy one bread for 1000000 dollar (remember germany after WW1) or one gallon of gasoline for a billion dollar
          hehe

        • Guest

That’s true Aussie. I’d argue however that China can’t afford to let us crash. A very high portion of their manufacturing jobs go to fulfilling our needs. What’s notable here is that many of those jobs are filled by workers who were disproportionately hurt by the reforms of the 70s and 90s, workers who have already shown a willingness to protest when the government’s actions hurt them. Having to close those factories because on of their biggest clients (the U.S.) doesn’t work with them anymore has a high chance of sparking revolts and violence. The CCP can’t afford that, and they know it. If they place a higher goal on maintaining power than on advancing the business interests of China, then they’ll hold back on action.

      • Frebble

If you added up all the money other countries owe the U.S., with the U.S. having no expectations of it ever being seen again. You would in fact see… The country technically is not bankrupt. In fact if the U.S. citizens stopped donating money to foreign aid for even 1 year it would more than cover any deficits the U.S. are currently having. The issue here is like what happened in the hurricane in the U.S. a few years ago… The U.S. Is always first in line helping out every other freaken country with their issues, hardships, hurricanes, tsunamis , etc.. that they can’t even help themselves when they need to. It took many days for people during Katrina to get aid, yet every other country can get aid from the U.S. within hours. Where are all these other countries when the U.S. needs assistance with anything? I never see or hear about any countries sending support to the U.S. for jack.
Does the U.S. have corrupt politicians?
Sure do… can you name any other country that does not?
You probably hear about it more in the U.S. based on the fact everything about the U.S. is known internationally. Hell Brad Pitt has diarrhea and its probably on the front page of some paper in France. Where international stuff isn’t so common for people in the U.S. to hear about unless it’s some tragedy, like a flood, volcano eruption, etc.
Would post more but I get rather long winded with my posts as you can see.

Thats rubbish. Here in australia we have agreements with the usa to defend each other. Yet when the iraq war started, we joined in (and are still there) yet when there is trouble with indonesia (a really close neighbour) the usa gave us the finger and didnt send anything. fck you america. the ‘fair trade agreement’ which our pollies signed was a really bad move too. we can sell a little more produce to the usa, and in turn, the usa can enforce their bullshit patent system on our territory. Major loose for australia :( I used to think our fair and good patent system was a good thing, but whats the point now… if only our pollies would stand up for us instead of bending over :(

Can I ask what religion you are? And yes, I do agree that this whole SOPA is all an elaborate ploy to distract the people from their gradual disappearance of freedom of speech. Why aren’t people more worried about the martial Laws which have been ALREADY implemented. That combined with a much more censored internet= A future that is tantamount to Nazi Germany however it’s not only race they’re fighting but anyone who dares to oppose them labeling them ‘terrorists’ to justify their actions. Is this the future we want?

Religion is a dirty word in my opinion. God endorses no religion today. If you had to label my belief it would be Messianic Jew, belief in Messiah and the keeping of Torah, the commandments of God. The problem with Christianity is that they follow the false Apostle Paul. He was a liar!

Not really, no. The only thing influencing the movie and music industry is the idea that they can charge people five times for what has already been bought once.

This is less a case of “satanic influence” than a case for the industry in question being the large-scale version of the common fraudster who thirty years ago tried to sell people overpriced wrecks “only driven twice a week from an old lady in Pasadena”.

      Yes.

Or, to be more accurate, the politicians running european countries are gutless asshats who can’t stomach the thought of not being invited to free dinners at the white house and have their pictures taken.

America will be brought to its knees by a lack of No. 9 Barcelona replica shirts, oranges and raffia donkeys when the Spanish retaliate!

The Spanish however will embark upon a culturally rewarding and economically stimulating path when their entire cultural landscape isn’t dominated by films and music made thousands of miles away which promotes greed and violence all in the name of entertainment. Also health benefits as Maccy Ds and all other fast food outlets are forced by their govt to withdraw their services.

The shoes and clothing made by the Rebok and Nike in dubious factories will no longer be sold in Spanish shops. Ipad, Ipods and Iphones made in factories where people are forbidden from escaping their lives by suicide won’t be on sale in the high streets of Madrid.

Amazon.es will have to cease trading, allowing smaller Spanish companies to benefit from online sales.

I REALLY can’t see the downside to this at all.

I mean to say if the yanks stop selling their shitty films & music to the Spanish, they can all download them illegally with no fear of further reprisals. Everything else is made in China anyway. As for selling things to America, it’s long had a view that it prefers home grown things to imports and anyway, like everyone else, you yankies ain’t not got none of that there money to buy things with, cos your silly banks did go fuck up the world economies.

Please Mr. Obama put the UK on the list next please, it might be just the boost our economy needs.

Exactly right. There comes a time when foreign nations, even speaking as an American citizen, have to tell our government “SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LEAVE US ALONE! You do NOT have the right to make us put your insane and inane laws on our citizens. You want to put us on a ‘trade blacklist’… fine…. we will encourage the EU to do the same to you!”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Don-Dilly/1624894683 Don Dilly

If I have read correctly elsewhere, the (currently nonbinding) legal advice from the EU is that site blocking is unlawfull and essentially gave the same findings as a UN human rights report.

That is the main reason why siteblocking as a remedy within the UK DEA was scrapped.

Most of the siteblocks within the eu rely on law that existed prior to the eu ruling on site blocks and ultimately would fall if challenged in the eu courts.

The Sinde law in spain was passed prior to that eu ruling which is a large part of the reason the law was shelved . The law had been waiting for operational procedures to be written before it came into force and suddenly realised they couldnt get from point A to point B and remain compliant.

Also isnt the new spanish government full of unelected bankster placemen (like as happened in greece), tant amunt to the american banks bringing in the receivers. They are not interested if spain is compliant or not, they just want to screw as much money out of people between now and the law’s scrapping.

Way back in the 1950′s we got used to looking at the US for inspiration and as a good example.

Then five years ago we started seeing US senators kneeling and bobbing in unison before unzipped corporate CEO’s with Imaginary Property as their main portfolio.

Having gotten used to the idea that you knew what the US was doing I guess many in our body politic simply got to their knees out of habit when the US came to them in turn with a twisted loopy grin on it’s weathered face and hauled out a wrinkled schlong.

America just wants to control the world. I’m surprised that every household in America doesn’t all have video cameras secretly installed. So that big brother can watch. I give it about 30 years. hahaha

    • Tesla

you are probably not aware of this, but in all televisions, circuitry has always had the ability to transmit, same with radios.
Your phone does not have to be off hook to transmit either.
This is one of the reasons why many European countries require you to purchase a license to own a TV or radio.
There is a tiny postage type stamp on each device sold, proving that it is licensed, and you do pay for it.
Europe learned to do this the hard way, thanks to Hitler.
This gives them a list of everyone who owns a transmitter.

Big brother was in place long before Orwell…

      And so it begins…..

      • /b/loody flies!

absolute bullshit tesla.all tv’s and radio’s DO NOT have the capacity to transmit.
go do some electrical engineering then come back to me….shhheeeehhh talk about ya tin-foil hat wearing loonies!!!!!!

        • Tesla

          shows how much you know.
I am not paranoid at all and could care less.
          I am an electronics engineer/tech
have been for over 30 years.
For you to even think of saying that is proof to any 1 year tech, that if you are into electronics at all, you must not be very good at it.
I would guess that you have (if any) the type of training where all you know how to do is replace circuit boards and could never trouble shoot because that statement proves you do not understand even basic electronics.
I started studying electro magnetics and engineering at 8 years old. In 1961 I very easily made our B&W TV transmit audio to our entire neighborhood.
I did say transmit, I never specified audio or video. If you knew what you were talking about you would have known that.
The circuit and components for transmitting audio is there and is usually clearly marked. As for radios…get real. I dare you to try and make a radio that doesn’t transmit, its the nature of the circuit.
I own 2 40 year old Tandberg Tube radios that actually have the switch installed(normally left out) They can easily transmit to a 5km radius. A very common radio in Norway.
That said you probably think a speaker can’t be used as a microphone.
Still don’t believe? Check out what I said about radios and TV’s in Scandinavia, Great Britain, ask them why the license exists.
The common answer starts with “It will never happen again!” re:invasion without the ability to warn others.
It’s obvious to me that you researched nothing as you already believe you know it all already. You don’t.
There are 2 types of electronics people. Those who understand electricity and constantly read about everything they can get their hands on.
And those who never crack a book – the 50% crowd.
Do you have any idea how to modulate a signal, or even what part/s of any circuit can transmit an electro-magnetic waveform? Do you know why Gamma radiation is emitted from older CRT’s
People like you are actually the very reason why I got interested in electronics.
The phrase “can’t be done” is not in a real techs vocabulary.

waaay off topic here, sorry folks.

        • IDIOCRACY

          @ tesla,

You are so wrong, I am an electronics (not mistaken for electrical hehe) engineer, only some radio’s and TV’s can do that, but not by default, it depends on the setup, and if so the signal is very weak. (I use the setup you talk about to build super sensitive receivers) For example one that does really not transmit is cristal receiver (hehehe)
And about the TV emitting gamma radiation, wrong, go back to school, it is röntgen. The older the radio / tv is the bigger the chance it can do what you claim it to do. Also the circuitery is NOT clearly marked, first you need a modulator (eiter AM or FM) then you need it to get the occilator signal modulated and then amplified to an antenna. If a radio or TV could do this by default, it would be forbidden in at least Netherlands / Belgium / France / Germany.

You can however with a little knowledge of basic electronics (tubes transistors capacitors coils resistors diodes varyistors and if newer some very handy liniar IC’s), build a weak transmitter with the parts.

so put up your tinfoil hat again, it is much easier to place a device for this purpose in the tv afterwards

And the timestamp bullshit… how does this generate a list, if the stamp is there, they still will not have your name and adress (pay cash)
Even the transmitters (amateur radio) have a allowed certificate but it is not registered to ones name, only if you want to transmit on short wave for example, you need an amateur licence and do exams for that to get it.
          So stop telling bullshit.

Sorry my fellow electrician (hehe) but do not try to tell the people that you think stupid, this nonsense.

        • http://twitter.com/Kogstaa Kogster

@IDIOCRAZY röntgen is X-ray in english. I actually believe he named them x-ray himself but it got popularly named röntgen after him/its discoverer.

Besides: I’m paying the bloody DVD, I don’t want any stupid ad in it!

The way things are going it’ll be a question of “What religious nut in a US general’s uniform decides to pre-emptively target the ‘reds’ in the Capitol in Washington DC”.

As for the rest of the world…sadly, the biggest hope on the horizon right now is China. And that thought alone puts shivers down my spine.

Used to be, the US led by fearless example. But that was 60 years ago, the greatest generation is long gone, and we’re left with the “leader of the free world” being, right now, the spoiled overweight, piggy-eyed brat of greater sires.

If the founding fathers had been granted a vision of this future, they’d probably have run for the hills rather than waste their time trying to forge a country.

blacklist, what a joke, China will gladly jump in to replace trade with the U.S., and if the U.S.eeps up this kind of bull with other Countries, everyone will soon be trading with China instead of the U.S. and the U.S. economy will never recover.

The limits that copyright should have, best case scenario, is that you have 5 years (once your product is totally finished) to make a profit on said product. THEN, after that five years, if it is a game or something else with DRM, you have to release a patch that removes the DRM totally or release a tool that removes the DRM totally.

To put the interest of another country above the interest of your own people sounds a lot like high treason to me… I assume Spain has the similar treason laws as most other countries… There is also the constitutionality aspect of passing a law that is effectively written by a foreign government…

I assume that when the Sinde Law will make its first victim, that will open the door to a legal challenge of the law based on Spain’s constitution. I am afraid though that this will take years to reach Spain’s Supreme court… Fuck America!

    • http://profiles.google.com/zerianis10 Christopher Kidwell

Very good point there. This might actually rise to the level of high treason in a lot of countries if the people want to be ‘nasty’ with their elected officials.

I wish this could be done! The level of treason here is such, that our ‘elected’ government changed our Constitution under the pressure of Europe and the finantial markets, against the will of the most people!! China cares little for copyright. Being a communist county then good of the population comes before good of the individuals. Also many are quite poor and some free entertainment would keep them quite happy.

And that is overlooking the vast language difference,

        • Indeed
        • Anonymous

Actually…China has known for 4000 years that patenting ideas is nonsense. So they don’t enforce IP within their controlled regions. This is one of the reasons why China’s marketplace is vibrantly seething with competition where the US innovative industries have grown rather stale.

In China an innovator takes an idea and runs with it, preferably in cooperation with a driven entrepreneur. Everything moves at record speed since you have to provide a finished and working product faster than the competition and then maintain the lead.

In the west we can’t innovate at all without a team of lawyers telling us what ideas we might be infringing on, and once the product is done it gets pushed on the market, a patent is lodged, and then the western industry sits it’s fat and sluggish ass down again in the expectation that the cash will be rolling in while it’s having a comfy five-year nap and dreaming of past glories.

Calling China “communist” is in reality a misnomer. They invented capitalism to start with, have practiced it for 4000 years, and the only times they’ve strayed from that path has been in small short-lived forays by insane emperors.

Today’s China is, like before, a corporate beaureaucracy. It’s just that they’ve realized there is no need for a puppethead.

      http://cdn.bitrebels.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/The-US-National-Debt-Simplified-1.jpg

From this you can see that their debt handling is a fucking joke with little cuts made and debt still climbing. A balanced budget would be nice but that falls next to impossible. They have done better since then but a long way to go.

The end truth is we run into a global financial crisis and Governments have been spending billions upon billions to try and prop up the economy and to stimulate growth. Only problem is they can’t afford it and now that the prop has been removed then so will 2012 become the year that the economy slides back into recession.

It is then likely to be 5 more brutal years before we can claw our way back out and the health of countries then depends on how much debt they have repaid. I can only wonder when the US will start voting bankers and financial experts into office when no one else can make the sums add up.

We’ll be lucky of the Dollar doesn’t collapse and get removed from its status as a World Reserve Currency. Already, businesses on the East coast of the US are preferring to take other money besides Dollars, so close is it to hyper-inflation.

        • Ogra

No, he is. Look at his posts; you can see him shift positions from day to day. It’s not a coincidence that his views always play out as a perfect caricature of the very worst anti-pirate you could imagine. Seeing him leads me to one of two conclusions; he either believes what he’s saying, and yet is willing to contradict on belief with a different one on a day to day basis, or he’s a troll acting out a very good satire.

      > “Trade restrictions should and will be the least of this.”

Correct, trying to impose trade restrictions against a bigger economy than your own usually is the last nail in the coffin of ones own economy. You are of course aware of the fact that EU is a bigger economical power than USA?

      > “Just about half of America’s economic might is tied up in selling, not giving away, digital IP.”

You seem confused. IP refers to the monopolies, and USA do not sell those.

      > “If Spain continues to facilitate the dismantlement of the USA’s digital industries..”

      Which they don’t.

      > “..by condoning digital piracy..”

You are aware of the fact that filesharing doesn’t constitute piracy in Spain?

      > “I hope the USA cores them so painfully they BEG to go back to only trade restrictions.”

Ignorance can apparently cause people to come up with the most moronic comments. =)

    • Anonymous

If half of the US economic might is tied into IP then half of the US economic might will soon be gone. It’s that simple.

And the reason is simple. Allowing the citizenry basic human rights such as the right to communicate freely is not and never has been “condoning piracy”. What you are saying is in effect that building a road good enough to drive a car on at high speeds should render the road builder liable for facilitating speeding.

And it’s telling that you just shouldered an argument which demands that nation-states should abolish several UN conventions in order to safeguard US private interests and see it as a matter of common sense.

Congratulations. You’ve made a long line of dead sovjet politburo members very happy in making a nominally “capitalist” argument as to why a free society is unaffordable.

  • Rowdy

I don’t understand why other countries just don’t call out America for bullying them and strong arming them into laws they don’t want for their country. It’s time for them to tell the US to shove it.

I also don’t understand why they would allow us to draft their laws?!? That’s ludicrous!

    • Anonymous

That’s because our Congressmen and Senators do not draft our laws. Corporate lawyers do that and “our” elected representatives vote for them WITHOUT even reading them! It’s called a Cabal.

All three branches of our government are in corporate pockets. The so called “checks and balances” are broken. Our politicians are in a 24/7/365 campaign mode because they voted in a law which allows them to convert their “campaign war chest” (donations) to personal funds for personal use. This is in addition to their generous retirement package which includes 100% health insurance with no copay or exclusions for life, and then to their spouse. Even the courts are bought off (tripsforjudges.org).

The current administration is printing money like Germany did between WWI and WWII, and many wonder if they are hoping for the same results. The current officials will get re-elected because almost half of all US citizens are now receiving some form of unearned government benefits and they want those government welfare handouts to continue. Such handouts, also called “ear marks” in other circumstances, are nothing more or less than bribes to citizens in exchange for votes. This despite the fact that voting is a waste of time because a Million dollars of lobbying money overrules millions of votes.

People are being lied to by the press, who no longer attempt to conceal their extreme Left bias. But, even Republicans voted for NAFTA, which guaranteed that American factories and jobs would be shipped over seas, leaving the only high paying jobs left, the medical industry. Everyone else is left with part-time minimum wage jobs at fast food joints. With THAT new tax base our government won’t be able to afford any programs.

Your ideas are even more nonsensical and despite massive government backing, your entire glass castle has taken one too many broadsides from the naval guns wielded by reality to hold together. No matter how much more duct tape you try to wrap it in.

If the US doesn’t want to trade, fine. The Chinese will be more than willing to. Last time I checked the spanish exports to US soil were more or less nonexistant to start with anyway.

        > “Digital IP IS our business.”

You mean extortion and fascism, right?

        > “You want to continue to trade with us, to sell your products here?

        You know what to do.”

Of course, absolutely nothing!? As has been explained to you several times before, EU is a bigger economy than USA. You can not threat someone bigger than yourself, and believe anyone would take it seriously.

The North American copyright monopolies are of little relevance to the rest of the world, the most economical action for EU would obviously be to totally disregard them.

And as you may, or may not know, since ignorance usually is your game, the only growing political group in the EU parliament has recently changed their stance on filesharing, and they are now working for legalizing it on an EU level, so that filesharing becomes fully legal in all countries and not just some, and another group in the parliament is close to copying that stand point.

Stupidity sanctions aren’t meant to be used for something this trivial and honestly what is it they can withhold? US doesn’t make anything anymore, they are far from a leader in the production of natural resources, and damn near everything is made in china now. Now if china was making that threat I’d take it serious but come on. This is bullying plain and simple. How about the government do something intelligent. Fix the economy, the gulf coast? hurricane puts them back in the stone age and you still haven’t fixed it then you coat them in a layer of oil for good measure, medicare in the toilet, unfair taxation, you bailed out everyone but those who voted for you. Here is a new flash you downsize and foreclose on how many and then are surprised they don’t spent money to see a movie? I can say there is an argument but for the action of government and corporate mismanagement of our collective futures there wouldn’t be as much piracy as there is. So in that train of thought can’t they be part of the facilitating piracy problem.

    • Anonymous

You put your finger on a point there which deserves clarification. The US doesn’t make very much anymore. As an export industry they are right now shot. China and the rest of Asia own that boat.

And in the wake of that realization, the US has come up with what they are currently telling themselves is the best thing since sliced bread. Intellectual Property (IP). In essence this is the old belief that making people accept state-sponsored monopoly on information distribution and use will create a financial perpetuum mobile which will for all intents and purposes transform the US into a net exporter of “goods” once more.

That premise in itself is false – information control does not work and even though the public focus right now is on the massive copyright infringement going on for non-commercial purposes the hue and cry on that particular aspect is mainly sponsored by private interests who think if they whine loudly enough, money will magically appear in their pockets due to semi-legal extortion “pay off or else” schemes.

The focus of the US government otoh – the area the body politic is eyeballing and pushing hard – is in commercialized application of IP law. And if you can safely say that persecuting private citizens for exchanging information is nonsense then the commercial application of IP rights right now is the truly toxic substance of todays market.
In essence, since the west has started becoming very afraid of Asian innovation, most IP law today is geared for the purpose of being an anti-competition shield for the current giants.

This is why Apple under current international IP treaties can toss Samsung out of markets simply by claiming that Apple was first in creating rectangular communication devices with centered glass screens. It’s why no-brand pharmaceutical shipments regularly get stopped in transit and seized for investigation on very flimsy grounds.

Modern IP law is formulated in order to make competing with an expensive brand difficult or impossible at all. And accomplishes this by ensuring that even if the unbranded products for all intents and purposes is legal, the difficulties, investigations, and paperwork required to put it on the market and keep it there will up the cost prohibitively.

It’s an extremely cynical sort of realpolitik. And goes a long way towards explaining why US senators and western leaders seem to be falling all over themselves in order to cater to the whims of a spoiled industry which must be considered rather minor in the larger scheme of things. If the US hadn’t found the main majority of it’s manufacturing kneecapped by cheap Asian exporters, we would never have had to deal with the copyright industry as backed by the sort of government power we’ve been seeing lately.

      • RIAAtarded

All very true but even realizing that the US is a major global power how is it they intent to implement this on a global scale? That is the only way this course of action works or produces the end results they are looking for. I think the US over estimates their influence and it is a fantasy if they think they are in any position to move this ahead on a global scale. As a planet we haven’t managed to eliminate poverty, famine, disease, war, racism the list goes on. all which are more noble pursuits and should have an easier time being promoted then IP law.

There is a reality here that is failed to be grasps I get chasing infringement that is making money or manufacturing an inferior product that could be dangerous that at least makes sense. Chasing the 12yo who downloaded Lady GaGa latest hit and I use that term “hit” loosely isn’t something the US own voters can get behind how in hell are you going to convince the world of that fact? Personally I can’t get behind any law that turns normal people into criminals for possessing a copy of media in a digital format because technically you have nothing at all.

        • Roberto

I think you have a point here: when you download anything you have nothing at all but a bunch of bits in a hard drive. Police should put them all in a bag and return them to the owner of the rights. That’s how it works when anything is stolen, isn’t it?

        • Anonymous

“All very true but even realizing that the US is a major global power how is it they intent to implement this on a global scale?”

It isn’t even possible to implement on a local scale which the invention of such a crude copying machine as the printing press decisively proved.

However, if it’s anything we learn from history it would be that we don’t learn from history.
Or, to be cynical about it, a bunch of politicians see massive campaign funding from benefactors drying up in the near future unless they do as they’re told. The consequences, even if they’re savvy enough to realize them, they couldn’t care less about. Fallout happens long after everyone’s forgotten who voted yea or nay.

Much the same as what happened in the 16th century.

everyone please join the fight against PIPA ans SOPA here the details from americancensorship.org Go To a Town Hall

The Senate is scheduled to vote on the internet censorship bill on Tuesday, January 24th, and unless we can find 41 senators to block the vote, it is going to pass. Will you meet with your senators during the January recess and ask them to vote it down. please contact and meet with your senators before january 24th please go here this is extremely serious go here http://americancensorship.org/

    • Anonymous

More correctly PIPA was previously “filibustered” (eternal opposition) by Senator Wyden and now Senator Harry Reid will do “cloture” (maximum of 30 hours of debate) to try and restore it.

PIPA reaches the Senate on the 23rd and the 30 hours of debate means that the cloture vote will occur on the 24th. All this cloture vote does is to try and end the filibuster and do that they need a 2/3rd majority or 60 votes. Since they currently have 41 signed up then they need 19 more for a win. The good news for us is that we only need 31 to oppose to keep PIPA locked in eternal debate so it never passes.

Even after the vote things are not over. Should this cloture succeed then PIPA will go for amendments before the main Senate vote. Should cloture fail then they will try to negotiate a compromise and only if no compromise can be reached would PIPA be dropped.

I have yet to hear when the amendment debate will resume in the House for SOPA but seeing the vast volumes of people who have abandoned SOPA since late December then they would have a very hard job to have it pass.

I just wonder how this one passed Hilary Clinton?

She believes in an open uncensored Internet as many reports make clear and she is the Secretary of State. So I don’t see how the US Embassy in Spain can start threatening the Spanish Government without her knowledge when she is the head of foreign policy.

The only exception I see was if someone ordered her to do this and there are very few people who can do that. Either that or they kept her in the dark.

Anyway this Hilary contradiction is certainly due some questions when congratulations Hilary you have now imposed the dreaded Chinese style censorship on Spain. Then remember the concerns about repressive regimes using copyright as an excuse to censor their populations?

Make room, make room, hypercritical Hilary Clinton walks this way.

One of the biggest problems with these posts is that people need to stop making personal attacks on each others countries – it doesnt help, and makes it less likely that they will accept any criticism if it is made as a personal attack. I lived in the USA for a while and while politics and the media there worries me greatly, I found that the everyday people there are as generous and good as they are anywhere. People attacking the USA as a whole for the actions of unseen figures in their goverment is wrong, but the stance of some Americans that they somehow have a monopoly on freedom and democracy also comes accross as arrogant. I’ve been resident in Scotland, Ireland and the USA and I have seen very little difference in the freedoms available to me, and any time I have spent in continental Europe I didnt feel that there were restrictions on my freedom there either.

The west as a whole has massive problems with corruption and while I cant comment on other countries I know from experience that the entire English speaking west has huge issues around who is controlling the media and the links betweeen media, big business and goverment. Democracy is fairly meaningless if the majority of people are being fed their news by organisations with a political agenda. Ultimately, people fighting each other on forums like this is playing into the hands of those who would maintain the status quo, time would be better spent questioning the issues in your own country.

Who the hell wrote this article? Spain is a monarchy, it has a KING. Zapatero is the Prime minister.

    Yankees

    • Anonymous

In Spain he isn’t even called prime minister. He is called “presidente” (which stands for president). Just check this: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidente_del_Gobierno_de_Espa%C3%B1a

If somebody translate it on Wikipedia as “Prime Minister” it doesn’t convert him on that. Spanish monarchy is slighlist different from other monarchies.

      • Roberto

His position is called in English “prime minister” because he’s not the head of state; the king is. “President” applies to the head of state in a republic or some federal union like the USA. “Presidente” has always been translated in the press into “PM” and “ex-presidente” into “former PM”. You’re probably too young to remember, but the use of “presidente” instead of “primer ministro” hides some obscure intentions behind.

This is funny: Angela Merkel is called “canciller” in Spain, but this word is used in South America for “ministro de exteriores”. You can see in any Latin America meeting how the Spanish “ministro de exteriores” is constantly adressed as “canciller”.

You always have to take a lot of care in the way you say anything, specially when you’re not using your native language.

    @ IDIOCRACY
takes all kinds to make a world to be sure
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Electromagnetic-Spectrum.png

Röntgen is x-Ray and if you look at the electromagnetic spectrum you will clearly see how close they are. You are correct though in that a standard CRT does not emit Gamma. It simply uses Gamma correction. Which is not Gamma Radiation
As for the ability to transmit audio? A.M. stands for audio modulation.
Modulation can be made by simply making voltage in a circuit rise and drop. If you connect any speaker to any low current circuit without blowing up the speaker, you have just made a simple A.M. transmitter.
You obviously don’t remember the radio kits available in toy stores. Any 5 year old can make a receiver or transmitter with one. The crystal is used for getting a pre-determined fixed frequency. Not a necessity. That is what a crystal does, apply a voltage, it then resonates at said frequency. There are several ways to change the frequency, a crystal just make it easy and is not an integral component of a basic transmitter.
More often than not an electrical circuit(chips not withstanding) can work in reverse. Any real tech knows this.
You were apparently raised in the world of chips. I was raised in the world of tubes.
You can modulate any low current circuit with ease with an on/off switch allowing you to transmit morse code. exchange that switch with a good old fashioned speaker and you are now modulating that same circuit with the electromagnetic signal generated by the speaker. The more current you can safely apply the stronger the transmission. You do not need a chip or pre-made modulation circuit to do this.
If you were in the military, they would not give the radio to you. Your friends lives might depend on this very basic knowledge.
Today such simple knowledge has been used to create the 110v house line voltage
    modem, very old tech actually.
As for the postage type stamp(get your quotes right), it does exist, ask any Norwegian. Today it is known as a Tax. Yes you can buy a used TV from someone, then they don’t know you have the set. But you cannot buy one from a legit store without giving your name.
    http://aboutnorway.wordpress.com/2011/01/17/tv-license/
And you will pay it every year.
It was worse 30 years ago, and the info I gave previously was more than common knowledge, today, its simply used to pay for the govt. broadcast station. Nothing to do with the war.
Don’t refer to me as your fellow electrician. 1 I am not an electrician, I do not pull wires through buildings.
2 I took classes before you were born, but I only consider a fellow electronics tech to be one on the same or similar level, that is not you. When I took classes there were only 4 other students that were on that level in my school. You appear to be on a level that DeVry produces. An Engineer does not necessarily qualify you as a technician, that is fact.
It simply means you know some theory, not the practical. There is and always will be a difference. If you went to school you should know this for the most part the 2 groups do not get along. I am both, I am a tech that can design, build, test, troubleshoot, repair.I am also very educated in digital circuitry as I also a computer tech. When I went to school I built my own frequency generator for tests because the ones made by Fluke are sloppy.
Also, learn the difference between stupid and ignorant, you have shown yourself to be both.
    Knowledge removes ignorance
Nothing but death can remove stupid.
I build Tesla coils for a hobby, I can modulate the fillings from your teeth with one.
    the simplest form of modulation…

In English “America” means “the USA”. In Spanish “América” or “las Américas” mean North America + Central America + South America. Similar word, but different meanings for different languages.

I am ashamed as Spaniard, we bite the apple of housing in the late 90s and a lot of corruption emerged, but when there is money everyone is happy. Now we finished the apple and people fight for the (rotten?) seeds, doing anything like approving this law that it is not good for Spain, neither for Europe, just because we are afraid of USA, just because we think the future is in patents and copyright!! We are late on that!!! Is it not better to punch the table, and change the game? free knowledge is what we need, but what to expect from a country that waste money to train us educated people and then we have to work in other countries!!! Is it that logical?? A country that does not know what it is I+D!!! It is really sad.

Is it really so hard to live in peace?

    • Fuckthat

I think the stupid government and stupid politicians should focus on getting the economy back in shape rather than going after innocent downloaders. Look at the drug cartel in Mexico! Spreading like a virus into the states one day murdering all our families and children. Maybe the stupid feds should continue to back the war in the Mideast and spend another few trillion on bombing the hell out of Iran and the rest of the Middle East right?

What the hell has happened to this country? I see what gets prioritized. If the retarded RIAA is so concerned about losing money from piracy, maybe all the states installing and using red light cameras and swindling billions of $’s out of American Families can help support the RIAA . The poor Jones family down the block has just had their home burglarized and before leaving decided to rape their 12 year old daughter meanwhile you got millions of cops busy pulling over motorists and handing them speeding tickets with fingerprints embossed with remnants of jelly donuts.

If it’s not online piracy it will be SHOPLIFTERS in stores. Can’t stop that, can’t stop thugs, gangs, murderers, rapists, child molesters, illegal immigrants from entering the USA, and stealing jobs from hard working American citizens along with adding to the crime rate. Can’t stop BIG corporations from outsourcing jobs and pumping money into India, China and the rest of the world and stimulating their economy. Can’t stop BIG PHARMA concocting a new vaccination that kills off the American population and camouflaging it as a cure.

TorrentFreak is turning into an anti-America hate blog. Not in the articles, but in the comments. If this is how people act in their respective countries, I’m glad I’m an American.

    • Anonymous

I would recommend that any US Citizen spends time outside the US and sees for themselves how the rest of the world sees them. The many who have already made this trip understand what they say even if they find it sad.

You can’t see as clearly in the US and one reason would be the censorship…
      http://imgur.com/gallery/W2Y5u

Look at all those headline topics that the rest of the world sees and yet the US blinds themselves to these matters. Islam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the sea of US Debt all censored away from American eyes,

      • Anonymous

I would recommend that any fucknut that wags a heavy finger in America’s direction actually visit here before condemning the entire country of 307 million.

Statements like, ‘yet the US blinds themselves to these matters’ make you look like a fucking mong…following the herd.

        • LOLatUSAmeriKKKaTards

LOLling at the apologists. Your country is FUCKED BY CORPORATIONS yet you insist on screaming “YooEssAyy!” like braying donkies on the way to the knackers yard – unaware of your impending fate…

    • Indeed

It is. and not only here but also on other sites and forums.

It really has to do with the attitude of the government of the USA and because the anonymity of the internet, people are more inclined talk harsh and rough.

but I have to say that all the Americans I have met personally and on my favourite sites are very nice people.

It used to be cool, but now it isn’t anymore (specially if you live in a Francoists’ nest). Nowadays it’s all just “I, me & myself… don’t care about you”.

i haven’t read all the posts over this. far too numerous, so if this has already been asked, sorry.

what the hell are Spanish citizens themselves doing about this? i’m sure they have much bigger balls than the new government obviously has but if they just accept what has happened without some sort of fight or outcry, they are no better than those that have implemented it!

    • Roberto

We’re doing nothing (that’s our nature: we just complain to friends while we drink in a bar). We can just expect that some due EU directions against Internet censorship are sanctioned.

Experience tells us that protests don’t achieve anything. Anyway there’s not much fearless people willing to take the streets and speak out loud. Otherwise our options are packing and leaving. Some people is already doing that (at least they’re moving their hosts abroad, but they could be blocked anyway by sending a formal request to local ISPs).

You must understand this country is under some undercover dictatorship: the last party in the government developed that law but decided not to sanction it. The party that’s currently holding the power after last November’s election used to be against this law: ten days in the government was enough time to change their minds. So anything we vote is basically the same shit with a different name and they make us believe we actually have options, when we really haven’t any.

It seems a bit riddiculous tha we went from talking about rights in-to talking about restrictions and paedophilia…. GET A GRIP! Everything exists everywhere America is as good as any country (Spain, Portugal, GB ETC…) Some countries just deal with corruption and pressure from industries better. If you can answer this question maybe you can answer why America puts so much pressure for SOPA like bills to be passed by other Governments…. How many billions or even trillions does the American government take in tax from the film or music industries?
I can tell you it is allot more that whatever anyone think because it can go from taking tax from the coffee boy, the singer, the producer and the studioand taking part of the profit from sales, etc…
If you think of a country as a company with profit and losses, if it was your company you would put pressure as well!

  • USAslave

They will pass SOPA worldwide, it doesn’t matter what the people think. As an American, born and raised, I tell you even I can see what America is doing to the world. Our “government” is among the MOST corrupt in the world. We torture, kill, steal, pillage, brainwash, propagandize, and even still have slavery right here in the good old U.S. of A.!!! I just pray the rest of the world prosecutes our leaders and business people and realizes that MOST of us Americans are poor and MOST of us have been brainwashed and are so bombarded with propaganda that we have no clue as to what is really going on. Won’t some foreign government PLEASE come save us from these EVIL people?!

What is it with these Americans thinking they own the globe? Don’t they realize they’re just second-grade colonists nobody wanted around in Europe? So are Aussies but at least they know their fucking place in the world and keep quiet. It’s only a matter of time before all of your so-called allies will join forces with China, Russia, South America, Iran and the many other nations that rightfully despise you and your way of life. I hope they nuke you ’till there is nothing left. You sure deserve it.

  • Jrhindo

Literal example of American IMPERIALISM. What is this 1970 Cold War Era? FUCK U USA

I’d love to see, if say Ireland threatened USA to pass a law. 1 the poor little country would be humiliated, cos US would divulge this shit just for lolz and hate. 2 the poor little country would get hammered by all kinds of penalties and sanctions for random.. This shit is the same situation with Iran right now, USA is in the Persian Golf with its big navy and superweapons right in front of Iran and they expect Iran to backdown in submission! Fuck ‘em I support iran in this! What would US say if Iran had ships next to Florida?

I think we all have to agree that the president of the USA is actually the ruler of earth.

We have to realize that they own the planet !!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps its time everyone downloaded an MP3 or Movie. We can then call all our own countries prison. Would simplify it all a bit for the Americans.

  • vulture

Coming from the UK I like the idea of my country being a prison for pirates.

Like all other prisoners I would have rights, I could do what I wanted on the internet without good old Uncle Sam poking his big fat nose into my business.

It is about time the rest of the world told the bloody yanks they don’t own the planet, the internet, all of dot com and anything else they decide is theirs. It will not be long before we have to vote for the president of the planet, mmmm I wonder what nationality that person will be……oh yes American, they own everything and if we say no they will invade and take it anyway.

This, my dear friends, is called extortion. A fine example how the USA doesn’t care about democracy. What is democracy actually? An idea that has never happened.
