Game developer “introversion” is planning to release “faked” versions of their new games as soon as a pirated copy pops up. The faked versions will look like the real deal, but are in fact nothing more than a demo version.
“You can’t stop peer-to-peer file sharing, so the best route to combat it is to subvert it,” one staffer said. “We will release a version of our game that looks like it’s been hacked at the same time as a pirated version gets out.”
Introversion thinks that people will be so annoyed by this, that they actually run to the store to buy the game. According to introversion, this tactic successful disrupted the distribution of a previous release of the game “Darwinia“.
