Pirate Parties International Conference Takes Place Next Month

Next month, the 2012 Pirate Parties International conference gets underway in Prague, Czech Republic.

The event, held on the weekend of April 14th and 15th, will feature speeches from Amelia Andersdotter, Swedish Pirate Party’s Member of the European Parliament, and Laurence Vandewalle, Policy advisor on telecommunications and free culture from Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament.

On Saturday afternoon, well-known writer and copy-fighter Cory Doctorow will deliver a keynote address.

During the conference some key issues will be decided, including the addition of new members to PPI, the election of a new board and discussion on amendments to PPI statutes.

The conference will be rounded off on Sunday afternoon with a keynote from Rick Falkvinge, the founder of the first Pirate Party.

“PPI conference is one of the most significant Pirate meetings during the year. We are proud to host such event,” Ivan Bartos, chairman of the Czech Pirates told TorrentFreak.

“We believe that the Prague conference can lay foundations for a joint Pirate election campaign for the 2014 European elections. We also want to deal with challenges the analog parties of the past cannot cope with, such as digital currencies and sensible telecommunication policies.”
