Avatar DVD Screener Leaks To BitTorrent
Written by Ernesto on February 04, 2010A few hours after Avatar received nine nominations for the upcoming 2010 Oscars race, a DVD screener of the film leaked online. The leak, which presumably originates from a screener copy sent out to one of the Academy members, is expected to be downloaded by millions of people before the Oscars winners are announced.
Avatar has been an enormous success. The film has broken nearly all records at the box-office, and together with The Hurt Locker it was last night’s big winner raking in nine Academy Award nominations.
James Cameron and the rest of the Avatar crew probably cracked open a few bottles of Champagne to celebrate, but today they will wake up with a serious hangover.
Only a few days after the nominations were announced, a DVD screener of Avatar (2D) appeared online. Before today, only a lower quality Telesync copy of the film has been available on BitTorrent and other file-sharing networks.
Ironically, the DVD screener that is now widely available online most likely leaked through one of the Academy Awards voters.
There is no doubt that Avatar will also score big in the list of most downloaded movies this year. The Telesync copy of the film that has been available for over a month was already downloaded by more than two million people.
It is expected that the DVD leak will easily double or even triple these figures. Avatar has been among the most searched for keywords on nearly every torrent site for more than a month already.
Twentieth Century Fox has been extra careful with sending out the DVD-screener of Avatar, as more Academy members received it mid January, just a few days before they had to vote. Although this did delay the leak, it couldn’t be prevented.
How and if the DVD-screener will affect the box-office revenues is up for debate. The film has already grossed more than $2 billion worldwide, which is an absolute record despite the relatively high piracy rate. In fact, high piracy numbers are often an indicator of success at the box-office and vice versa.

Downloading….
second yarrr
i just grabbed it from TehConnection.eu
for invites email invite@tehconnection.eu or head to irc.p2p-net.eu #TehConnection.Invites
I really am holding out for the 3D bluray but i will download this baby just to support the swarm :)
Sharing is caring remember
Not worth it right now, in the faster action scenes the frames skip… a *caugh* friend told me..
Made my day
meh not the 3d version – won’t be able to watch it on my 3d display
Link?
Not that i download stuff, I just like to know what links i should avoid…. Ok?
Saw Avatar twice in the cinema. First on 3D and then once again in 2D. This movie is so great that I’m staying away from the DVD quality until I’ve bought it on BD.
[ DH ] [ #1 ] [ Avatar.DVDSCREENER.XviD-MENTiON ] [ 1m 17s After Pre ]
[ DH ] [ #1 ] [ Avatar.DVDSCR.XViD-POCAHONTAS ] [ 1m 16s After Pre ]
Looks like Digitalhive.org had it first, their pre times are getting really fast lately.
Anyone have an invite?
Meh, I saw it at the cinema and am still going to see it again in 3D this weekend, because I don’t think skippy frames in the action sequences will do it any more justice than a telesync.
For me to even want to see it on bluray, it would have to be 3D.
This film is only really any good for the effects and 3d the restof the film is S%!T!

Avatar.2009.DvdScr.Xvid {1337x}-Noir Noir as usual has the best quality rip. avalailable with no need to register, no ads or any bs. just use the magnet link or click download
It was leaked on rapidshare.
the quality of this screener is not the best. jumpy frames and frustrating to watch. Even the uploaders say to wait for a better rip.
Wont this cripple the industry.
I mean it is the highest grossing film in history.
Wont they belly up?
Find the leak “IFPI goons” and sue them for a godzillion dollars.
Especially the dead guys and the network printers (and your grandma).
RM
Noir got a 700mb copy out
Too bad all the copys floating around are from the same messed up source!!You all fail!!LMAO
Not worth the d/l if not in 3d. The film itself is really really bad plot wise. The effects are awesome though.
anyone who watched the TS of this movie is a dumba$$.
seriously, go see it at the movies, its THAT AWESOME!!
Thanks for the heads up.
The film is really great. Waited 3 weeks to get home and watch it in English (’cause here everything’s f*cking translated and sounds terrible though I unterstand it all). Actually the price was really reasonable for a film with this length and in 3D. Definitely worth every single penny. Will watch it again in the near future on big screen.
#19, nope, those who have watched it with TS-quality are smart. Like me. :D Before going into the cinema and paying X euros/pounds/dollars/dinars/rubli/yens/etc., it’s always good to know if it’s worth watching and paying for it. My doubts were not that it’ll look great with fantastic CGI effects. My doubts were that the storyline won’t be up to standard set by the great visuals. I feared it’ll be just a dung on the bottom of the big cool looking toilet. So watching the TS gave me the opportunity to see if it’s worth the money. Yes, the plot isn’t brilliant but it definitely isn’t that bad so that one might say: “Damn, another great lookin’ film with miserable plot. Thanks but no thanks!”.
I took my friend to see Avatar only after I saw the TS copy and decided the 3D version was worth the money. I’d argue that because of piracy good movies get extra viewers, but bad movies get less, making piracy a sort of quality control.
Going to wait and see it on Big-Screen3D.
It was leaked on RapidShit.
If it was not 3D,i would have it by now………..
I heard it’s overtaken the highest grossing film of all time; Titanic.
I don’t see why I should bother giving them my money. We all know what Mr. Cameron thinks of his fans. I won’t bother downloading the screener. I can be very patient and wait for the Bluray rip. xD
Not gonna DL this. I went to see this twice at local IMAX and it is awesome. Gonna buy the BD version when it’s released – gotta see it in perfect detail!
Downloading and i am racked with guilt for doing so. I feel like i am stealing David Cameron’s children’s inheritance!
Yeah, right! :D
Use your IQ
Get the BluRay for your BD player
Looks like Avatar is going to lose billions in revenue from this leak. Another reason why you shouldn’t download illegally! NO MORE movies of this calibre will be made if you keep on stealing it.
If I download this, I bet they will still bitch and moan that they LOST revenue even though they beat all their own records already.
bleh.. was only worth watching in 3D.. otherwise a pretty boring and long movie..
graphics are no doubt awesome.. but everything else was BLAH. story especially.. carbon copy of every generic disney movie..
never even going to download it when full BRRIP comes out..
BUT im not being a total downer.. im very hopeful that this will be the first of many good movies.. they certainly have the visuals down.. now lets see them make a real interesting movie… not staring at flowers and talking about ‘the circle of life’.. how many times have i heard that?
avatar´s crew should be proud of it. look how many good reviews the film got here, and i´m sure almost everyone went to watch in on the teathers. so, whats the problem with a “backup” copy? lol, none, at least for me =)
Avatar DVDScr xvid – IMAGiNE
Hahaha, I just love it when stuff like this happens… completely made my afternoon! Whatever “they” do, piracy is still going to exist… you need to learn to embrace and work around it, not use outdated (and often obviously stupid) techniques to try to hold back the evil, evil piracy invasion.
Because, you know, giving people the screener copies late is definitely, 100% going to mean they won’t immediately be put online. Riiiiiight…
I don’t understand how people are all jumping around because of Avatar. I’m a fan of sci-fi movies and I found it to be only average. It wasn’t deep at all, and all the characters felt very shallow.
The other big player, The Hurt Locker, on the other hand was the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. I generally don’t expect much from war movies, but this one really surprised me in a positive way. Made you think about a lot of things from a lot of different perspectives.
And I slept almost all movie long *yawns*
TWADDLE.
@28 you forgot the /sar
…douche
pay for it in the theater…download it to watch more…then buy on blu-ray to see again and again. Oh and Mcdonalds has light up toys and there is a video game. get that too. haha. great movie.
It seems that so many people come away from watching Avatar saying Rubbish plot, unrealistic dialogue, badly written, but amazing effects in 3D. now Call me old fashioned but i really think 3d is going to be a fad for the rest of time if it always comes down to bad script, amazing special effects. I’ll just be getting the 2d because it’s a film to be entertained. in 10 years time when the 3d of 2010 finally becomes the ultimate extreme hd 3200×1200 resolution in 3d through a projector, the technology today will be a couple of hundred quid. (the same tech everyone raving about in las vegas) and so will be worth it. being an early adopter this year is going to suck so bad. it was only 2005 when a 40inch screen (not even 1080p) cost £2500 and that was only 5 years ago!
sharings def caring in anythin =], i think the 3D wasnt needed but whatev
DOWNLOADING RIGHT NOW LOOKS LIKE Noir’S COPIES THE BEST CANT WHAIT YAAAAAA
The more interesting thing is – in the past, studios have individually marked their copies sent to Academy voters in order to trace leaks like this. Any word on whether this is the case, or if the leaker ‘scratched’ out the code?
not a dvdscr look like a vhs/tc
with a bad crop and encode due to the idiot p2p groups being incapable to ripping and encoding video.
@ 16 700mb rls would look cack.
a movie as long as avatar would have to be 1.5 gigs min to be any way watch-able on screen large than a ipod
I watched the TS copy at home and fell in love with this movie.
Because I thought it was so totally awesome I took my best friend to see it in 3D IMAX, I paid for her ticket and snacks. So all in all that day, travel and all included, I spent over $100 on this movie.
When it comes out in Bluray I fully intend to purchase a Bluray player (I have no DVD player at all right now, and a Bluray copy of Avatar.
I hope they will offer it in 3D because I will buy that as well. I want it in Bluray 2D and 3D versions.
I plan to spend more money on this movie and I’ll probably go see it in 3D IMAX *AGAIN* soon.
That was my first 3D movie and it was pretty awesome but the plot was fantastic! Because we enjoyed Avatar in 3D IMAX so much we are planning on going to also see Alice in Wonderland in 3D IMAX as well.
Before Avatar, I hadn’t been to a theater to see a movie since my kids were little, like 1992 I think.
Avatar brought me back to the movies. James Cameron got my money and he’ll get more money from me.
Why? Because this is so good that it just demands to be bought. I hope they have a special collectors edition in a fancy box, I want that.
Thank you Mr. Cameron!
Agreed 700MB for this would be shit.
IMAGiNE are releasing another version from different Russian source.
Hopefully that will be better that their previous and the multitude of re-encodes (Prism, noir, Poco..) damn even Mention’s is just a re-encode :/
@45
bluray 2d is down for june 30th fox said with ticket sales still strong no reason for em to rls the blu ray yet
bluray 3D will be rls later in around setember on likely as a lunch title for bluray 3D players and tvs.
will that what fox has said anyway.
2D for june 3D will launch when the players are ready to support the 3D standards.
Just wondering: Doesn’t the studios put a watermark all over screener movies?? Something like “this screener version was sent to John Doe, Academy member # XXXXXX. Distribution and/or copying is strictly prohibited and punishable by $250,000.00 fine and/or 5 years imprisonment.”
I had heard that the studios did this in order to know who was responsible (and whom to sue) for any leaks, if any leaks occurred.
…just wondering.
The movie is awesome. Although you do see some shallowness in the characters and the plot isn’t what one would call original (hence the stupid Pocahontas discussion) it’s still decent and entertaining.
Along with the great background music and gorgeous visuals it turns out to be a great experience when you go see it in 3D.
As for the leak, I doubt it’ll do any damage to the sales. Even when the BD rip comes, the movie stands for itself so the “lost revenue” will pretty much be from people that wouldn’t buy it even if they couldn’t download…
Some1 said file sharing acts much like a quality filter. Couldn’t agree more with that =)
Good luck in the oscar Avatar. Not that this award means anything to me…
@48
yes screener will have a water mark of somekind.
often scrolling text along the bottom with the mpaa anti piracy number.
they also have the warning about punishments at the started. other fade to black and white. and some will have a hash no to identify the screener was sent to.
before they hit the torrents these can be cropped off blured or left in.
others use invisible watermarked in the audio or video to identify the owner.
Jesus, do yourselves a favor and wait until the official dvd/blu-ray (and Rifftrax) are released. It’s a cheesy 90s kids cartoon with environmental themes made into live-action with an unlimited budget. Without the Real3D effects to distract you the UTTER CRAP stands out a lot more.
If I’m not mistaken, this is the best quality Avatar screener available (4.34GB) VIDEO_TS:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5335193/Avatar.2009.DvdScr.Xvid__1337x_-NoirExtraTorrent
Of course the most popular screener (1.37GB) Avi/XVID can be found here:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5335193/Avatar.2009.DvdScr.Xvid__1337x_-NoirExtraTorrent
Grrrr… the 4.34GB VIDEO_TS is actually here:

If i’m going to watch pocohontas in space, i want it to at least be 3D.
i downloaded this yesterday…. to little to late.
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5336460/AVATAR.2009.DVDSCR.XviD.AC3-ViSiON-%5Btracker.BTARENA.org%5D
FINALLY!! this is the third one I’ve downloaded and this is the good one. forget Imagine and Prism, they’re both jerky and unwatchable.
THIS is the one to download :)
downloading MAXSPEEDS copy from demonoid. going to see it in 3D on sunday so will wait for that but it’ll be good to have it in 2D at home so i can compare. I hope this ruins their box office take. so jewish that the extra you pay for 3D is counted compared to 2D movies.
Please, please do not download Avatar. James Cameron needs to feed his family. His share of the 2 billion dollars won’t buy much these days.
I saw adult animal hawtness in this film..
gawd where are the blue chicks IRL.. x)
@57 Raisin Brain
Good point; after production costs, taxes, and inflation are all factored in James Cameron’s share of the 2 billion dollars will actually be quite small.
Think of JC’s family out on a rainy street holding cardboard signs before you download this movie.
@48
The first thing i thought about. It could be the ‘voter’ isn’t worried because there is no identification on the movie. Or it was already uploaded before the ‘voter’ received it. Or is totally clueless about it.
Maybe the reported skipping of frames is or was the mark.
Honestly, don’t bother. Pay the money and see it in digital 3D several times. The 3D tech makes the film great. The story doesn’t.
@ 28 Feb 04, 2010 at 23:33 by Reasoned Mind
you do understand the concept of PROFIT? BILLIONS of PROFIT has been made – not losses – PROFIT
I hope the voter that uploaded this realizes he’s screwed because the watermarks are encoded using steganography and will still be in the picture. In any case, I saw this movie 7 times in various formats in various theaters… it has a good message for those that know how to listen, but the special effects are still there to please the common denominator. Do yourself a favor and see it in IMAX 3D before it’s too late! One last thing… if good movies are to survive and you want the decent movies to actually get sequels you have to tell the production company with your wallet, not your freebie downloaded copy. Idiots. >=O
@OJ
“Good point; after production costs, taxes, and inflation are all factored in James Cameron’s share of the 2 billion dollars will actually be quite small.
Think of JC’s family out on a rainy street holding cardboard signs before you download this movie.”
I wouldn’t go that far, but your thinking is in the right path(ish). There are thousands and thousands of other people involved in these projects, NOT just JC. Think of the security staff, costume artists, screenplay artists, gaffer, development team, technical team, producers, stunt team, makeup artists, art director, animal supervisor, casting directors, and the list goes on and on and on and on.
And thats the reason why i urge you all to do work and buy movies thieves!
For example – i operate iamagay.com and buy gay movies in blu ray. For further support i even organize only for gays get together for MPA
wont be released in 3D in blu-ray or DVD!
OH come on…..the people….security,staff…gaffers..catereres…etc…they have already been paid…Not everyone who works on or for a film…gets royalties….!
Most of the people that work on these are hourly worker…just like the majority of Americans…Paid by the hour…So by the end of filming most of these “people” have already made all that they will make, So reasoned mind…go bark up a tree!
Avatar, more like AvaFAIL!
amirite?
You be rite.
Is it also uploaded at rapidshare.com ?
Waiting for 3D version in 1080p so I can see home to really test this out, the cinema projectors are not even 1080p.
For thoes who didn’t even bother trying to go see it in 3d and are just going to watch this 2d version… fail.
Alright I need a link to the best download copy for avatar. I keep searching and looking at all the ones thats been posted around and nothing seems to be working.

@69 you’re right on the money. Reasoned Mind, all those people in the trenches have been paid all they’ll ever get from this movie – paid for by studio & production company shareholders and the profits from prior movies, not this one. The studio’s share of Avatar’s profits will go to pay those same people as they work on all the garbage 20th Century Fox puts out for the next 5 years. I mean look at this poo: http://us.imdb.com/company/co0000756/#productionX20company Big Momma’s House 3? Marmaduke? Remember this is the company that put out Eragon. If only we could pay them to NOT produce films of that calibre. But instead all that happens when there’s a box office blockbuster like this is it encourages the studios to continue producing a huge volume of material of LOW quality.
????? , ??? ???????
UEBKI, gde torrent?
VISION seems to still be the best until Kingdom
Avatar 2009 DVDScr Sample PREVIEW-SecretMyth (Kingdom-Release)

I love this crap. A copy of the movie was leaked by someone that got a review copy for the Oscars. That means a voting member either released it or was careless with it. Now the members of the Academy are made up of actors, directors, editors, costume designers, writers, composers, etc. People with a vested interest in the movie business. The people crying about how piracy is destroying their livelihood have a hand in releasing a pirate copy.
I bet Jack Black is to blame.
This movie is the most overhyped peice of toss ever only thick ass yanks are dumb enough to sit through this crap and then rave about it because “the graphics are awesome”
Talk about dumbing down jesus!
Grabbed already, hehehe, but will buy official director’s cut anyway, and later collector’s edition as well. It’s one of the few films worth the overcharge. And the only film i watched in cinema more than 2 times.
An over rated snore fest of a movie.
The technology saved this movie from tanking.
Avatar is a really bad plot ridden holes of a movie.
Not to mention the stupid science attached to the plot.
A floating giant rock?
A wheelchair bound protagonist who still use an outdated wheelchair. The technology they had can’t even help this guy to walk.
Lol! It is one very stupid movie.
Interestingly, this also happened with Up In The Air…
Actually the science behind Avatar is quite sound, you can read about questions and nitpicks here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43440
@86
You are an idiot if you believe anything in Avatar as plausible science.
Crikes, let me guess. You’re an American? Correct?
You’ve got very good sandbox rules when it comes to the film, Cameron made up the ecosystem of Pandora based on scientific /speculation/ (planetary conditions) and a healthy dose of cinematic bullshit (erotic humanoids) that the characters must adhere to.
And no, I’m not American.
MOVIE IS GREAT ONLY WATCHING IN THEATRES
Apparently the 3D version won’t be out – ever (according to the boss of Fox, Rupert Murdoch) http://www.avatardvd.co.uk/avatar-questions.html
The torrent will have do until they decide to release a 3d version when the whole world suddenly has 3d tvs!
Watching it on computer will ruin the experience watch it in theatres, or wait for it to be released on DVD or Blu-Ray (Blu-Ray is way better)and enjoy the movie. One of the most remarkable points of the movie was the tech and how amazing it looked. Watching it online or on your computer will ruin the movie for you.
i dont know that many people that havent downloaded this to be honest
i havent watched it yet but i got it burnt on disk ready to play =’D
this is so not true
