Demonoid BitTorrent Tracker Could Go Dark For Days
Written by enigmax on September 01, 2009Demonoid remains one the most popular BitTorrent sites on the Internet, despite a fairly colorful and turbulent past. Sadly its thousands of users could soon find themselves without their favorite site, as technical difficulties are set to cause possibly extended downtime.
Demonoid is one of the biggest torrent sites around. Now fairly peacefully hosted to the west of Russia in Ukraine, the site has previously received unwanted attention from both music and movie companies. So when the site goes offline a lot of people start to think of the worst, especially if there is little or no warning.
During the next few days, maybe hours, Demonoid may go down due to some serious-sounding technical issues. They have already caused some damage to the site so the operators want to limit further damage.
“We are experiencing power outages that have caused some ram and hard drive issues. We might have to shut down everything to fix and prevent further damage,” they say in a statement.
The downtime could be extended, “…days maybe, until we can change the power circuit,” they add.
Several Demonoid users already report connection issues, but the site is still accessible to most people at the time of writing. The blackout won’t mean much to millions of Russian and Ukrainian BitTorrent users though, since they are already blocked from the site.
Over the years Demonoid has had its fair share of downtime. In June 2007 Demonoid was pressured to leave their host in the Netherlands, mainly because of legal threats from the Dutch anti-piracy outfit, BREIN. The site then relocated to Canada, but after threats from the CRIA, it decided to shut down there as well.
In 2008 the site eventually reappeared in full glory after being offline for six months. This time the downtime shouldn’t last that long. i can confirm i have problems 12pm nortern european time with demonoid and the rest of the afternoon but at the present time i can get on to the site ok trackers working ok and demonoid forum is working ok fingers crossed hope it goes ok and not too much down time
Gordon, maybe you should go to demonoid, log out and then try to browse the torrents. It will give you a login prompt with no way to get to the torrents.

most of the other private trackers just have current stuff not much oldier stuff as well that,s what makes demonoid good to use
mmm.. Time to get a back up of it? Just try to get all .torrent files, a tracker you can rely on, and at least one source able to seed. From there, you can start a comunity over again :D

It ain’t private, either. Demonoid is generally referred to as ’semi-private’. AFAICR, unregistered visitors to the site can snag the latest seven days’ offerings, but are prompted to register _completely-free-of-charge_ to see the older stuff. (Things could have changed since I last looked tho’ – if so, then meh…)
P.S. If registration is currently closed (as is often the case these days), then there’s a simple answer: invites are everywhere. Ask me nicely (e.g.) – I’ve stacks…

It’s not a good idea for me to register in Demnoid. I have a max 20kb/sec upload LOL and I’ll probably get sacked because I don’t always achieve good ratios on the torrents I download. Thanks for the info zara :D

It was running a little clunky today. I was getting a lot of “internal server errors”. They should just take it down completely for a few days and fix what has to be fixed. No problem as long as we all know what’s happening.
demonoid is a great site, i use it all the time. lots of cool,rare,unreleased torrents on the site that ive never seen before, not on ”private” or ”public” sites or even the pirate bay. if demonoid ceased to exist my life would still go on though as there are plenty of alternatives like the pirate bay…:)
I’ve tried to register for a long time (many months) with them, but regs are always closed, and closed, and closed… Too bad, cause they (used to?) have excellent torrents, and I have excellent stuff to upload if only they weren’t so selective.
And no, I’m not into giving an e-mail address and beg for an invite from some random member. I’ll wait till I get an open registration form on their site, thank you very much.
Still, despite hard feelings, I hope the guys at demonoid will sort their problems out and continue operating smoothly. Every tracker is needed nowadays.

I’m a member of 8 or so Private Trackers and with that said, I LOVE Demonoid. More times than not, I’ll always go to the Demon to get some Great Files. The private sites are so Ratio ridiculous, it’s not even funny, and Demonoid is always there to save the day. Good Luck Demon and hurry back soon.

Anyone having white page issues should reload.
More often than not the page will load after a few tries.
The site is not down, but certain aspects of it are difficult to use.
I uploaded a torrent yesterday and although seeding overnight was poor, it’s picked up now.
No need to worry, this will be a temporary hardware issue and everything will be back to normal soon.
Hopefully there are plenty of Demonoid members that donate, so that hardware can be replaced easily.

Also, Demonoid is far from the best private tracker. Although it is brilliant, there are better ones. RevolutionTT FTW, it doesn’t have a great deal of torrents compared to some trackers, but it has 0day and scene releases, and torrents are always well seeded =D

To everyone wanting an invite: Its very unlikely anyone will give you one on here. I got mine by hanging around and indirectly asking for one.
I basically said something along the lines of “I was looking around the site to see how it is, but couldn’t view the entire thing because I don’t have an invite.”
A couple minutes later I had a PM from a guy giving me an invite. So I’m not in. They don’t allow asking for them, so you must be sneaky with it and ask indirectly.

It’s been up and down for me. The site loads, but upon torrent search I just get a blank page 9 out of 10 times.

I’m a member for 2 years. I uploaded 2 TB of torrents there. You get 5 warnings before they kick you out. I very rarely see someone with more then 1 warning. I got lots of spammers, very rude and non-sense comments etc. and after complaining (reporting) the comment never ever happened anything to that user, he got no warning, nothing. Well, I got fed up with uploading there ( I uploaded over 100 movies). Demonoid is unserious, careless and superficial. I found instead other private sites where the leechers are seeding like hell, nobody dares to be rude and won’t lie about your torrent ’cause there the admins will immediately kick your arse. If you’re still keen to become a demonoid member try signing up between the last day of the month 0:00 o’clock and 0:30 first day of the (next) month. So you got about a half an hour, later then that registrations will most likely be closed.

But I think they should put their index behind registration totally, and spread registration by invite only. That invite with a traceable web of trust to see which user stupidly gave an invite to a person who tried logged from a known RIAA, MPAA, or IFPI address, or a subcontractor of theirs.
Then they could snip the inviter off, and their untrustable down-line. Plus, they could warn all the downloaders of any torrent the untrustable downloaded themselves (This torrent is now compromised. Please if you are the original seed, recompile the torrent and change the length of a text file, re-hash a new .torrent file, and delete this one.)
Of course, the tracking of these webs of trust, including log-on data should be kept on a truecrypt volume, well hashed and hidden, and backed up offsite on another volume.

Too bad for a large server to go down due to bad hard disk or bad power supply.
The server appears to work now (at least ping) but it says “Internal Server Error” when connecting.
But Demonoid’s tracker tracker seems to be online.
I hope they solve the site issues too as I had to refresh some pages 5 times before they loaded up.

tracker seems to work but the website is down. so i wonder will the stats will work.. :( if it is not working it is useless to seed.
I’ve been to a couple of private sites, that think its so fucking great to be extra exclusive as if Im gonna waste my time trying to get in (unless its a niche market like wrestlingbay) but nah generally shit is already available elsewhere and thru various and better channels and protocols so most private sites are assed out except for the really big ones like KVCD (which isnt really private private)
Now demonoid is only semi-private and I gota say its by far my new fav site, it has all the interesting links frontpage like on Mininova. Alot of times it has exclusive torrents that I havent found anywhere else, (but not always sometimes the opposite)….a benign request area, a suitable helpful forum. If a torrent is dead you can request a reseed (altho this is providing that it hasnt been removed after 30 days of deadness)…Most users at least seed something and alot have ratio issues or seedboxes hence why Demonoid isnt so big on the ratio tracking… but to all the losers out there that talk about hit and runs pssh..what the fuckever there are hit and runs everywhere. Plus its better than being in private tracker where they track ratio too strictly and everyone is tyrying to seedback to an oversaturated torrent which ends up that too many of the power players are delivering too much upload there by quenching any of the other users who eventually get fucked in the ass cuz they cant meet ratio deadlines…fuckin noobs…quit hating on Demo and get an account bitches.

I’m in Argentina and until yesterday Demonoid worked fine but as of today the site’s down, though the tracker’s still working.
Hope they fix the problem soon!
Sites been dying for the past couple days. Searches coming up with weird errors and files taking two or three reloads to DL. My trackers have also been going up and down and speed has slacked off significantly. Today about ten minutes ago I started getting error messages off the site. Now I can only access a couple of searches and can’t DL any new torrent files.
I hope Demonoid comes back soon.
And to all the haterz: Demonoid Rocks. Sure it has trolls and problems, but overall it is a great site with a good community and some great files. You can request a file on the forums and people will have it for you by the end of the day. They won’t bother you unless your ratio is really really bad, and then maybe they might comment. I seed like crazy (highest ratio: 6.49) just to show how grateful I am for not having to use shitty free sites.

Don’t feel bad andysucks you’re not the only one addicted to demonoid. Until its down I would suggest using Mininova [http://www.mininova.org] or BTJunkie [http://www.btjunkie.com], they’re the best free sites in my opinion.

Two, tpb still works and if the tracker doesnt just add http://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announce to your tracker list, it will connect to the same swarm.
Also, mininova and isohunt are index sites taht have no tracker, if you dont know the difference google bittorrent tracker and read the wiki and do some research. And by going to the mininova wiki you will see that they were given three months to pull down all links to copyright material on their site, it is bad times for them as well.

Demonoid seems to be down all together atm hopefully just to change out the power circuit and ram and other hardware they said had become damaged.
