If you don’t like torrents try MP3 Search. The site carries in excess of 50,000 albums from 46,000 artists. Prices start at $0.19 per track. Most tracks are in high quality bitrate, 320 kbps. The site accepts major credit cards.

Previously: Bitcomet follows Azureus and uTorrent

that “error” message is normal, just ignore it. Windows always does that when a system file is edited.

The patch edits the tcpip.sys file

lol i downloaded it and tried to open it but my bullguard anti-virus detected it. I hope it caught it before it did some damage. :P

18 Oct 14, 2006 at 17:54 by Ernesto

Some AntiVir Software vendors added the patcher into their virus-definitions. The patcher is often detected as ‘Tool/EvID’. But as a first info:
The patcher ist NO VIRUS.
Some virus and trojanwriter uses the same technique to increase the limit. After that its easier for them to spread to other computers in the internet. This runs without knowledge of the user. So he is not informed about what’s going on.
With the patcher here, every user can decide on his own if he wants to change the file and if yes how high the limit should be. Also the user will be warned if he chooses to high limits, as already infected machines will spread existent viruses and trojans easier to the net. So everybody can choose on its own and is not forced to. The patcher itself does not contain malware.
The virus-notification therefore should be seen as an information that this program contains the functionality to increase the limit. If that program is not known or has not been installed you can delete it.
I hope I have answered some questions.

its not a virus. fools. understand how your virus checker works first.

22 Nov 09, 2006 at 00:26 by outlawz

Well…I got service pack 1…no limitations the program said. I seleted a diff port which I usually did anyway I tend to check around and see if the speed changes. I download alot of files at once so I try and keep above 40kbs. Thing is I download at a max of 372 a test a DSLreport reveals…But I still get crappy download speeds…I’m lucky if I get all of 40kbs for a while. I can’t seem to get much higher and that’s a bunch of files put together so go figure. Aswell I rarly upload because it just doesn’t upload much lol. So what the heck else can I do?

Email me if you have a possible answer:Justin_15can@hotmail.com

There’s a difference between “connections” and “max half-open TCP connections per second” which is limited to 10 in XP sp2. If you’re happy with your speeds you don’t need to install this.

Ok, I did this and changed it…but my dl speeds didnt change and now my internet is running REALLY slow. So I changed everything back and it is still running slow.

Is this caused by what I did by any chance or is it something else, because it started doing it right after I ran the program. If so, could someone please help me out? It would be GREATLY appreciated…thanks in advance.

53 Apr 21, 2007 at 18:39 by Katherine

57 May 10, 2007 at 15:23 by Chris C

When i ran the Zip, after completion a message came up stating windows needs to restor files or it wont run proper. im hoping its because it dosent like 50 connections..No change in speed though. im Dling from one with hundreds of speeds and peers but still 40kbs :( limewire Pro i get 100kbs-300kbs but cant download most of the stuff you can with Utorrent does anyone have any tips?

58 May 11, 2007 at 16:13 by Jo

This patch does work - I was doubtful because of the other comments. I donloaded it, ran it, and then my speeds have magically gone up. It is not a virus.

59 May 13, 2007 at 10:19 by help

62 May 16, 2007 at 18:12 by LordMarcus

Well this did nothing for my tbh. It hasn’t effected my computer and it certainly isn’t a virus.

I can’t really see much of a difference at all but as long as my system works i don’t give a shit.

Worth the download to see if it helps you out in my opinion thou.

63 May 17, 2007 at 16:38 by Liew

when i opened the patch, my pc beeped and the command prompt opened for 1 second then went off..how do i deal with this?

64 May 20, 2007 at 12:39 by lazer

Anyone know why it wont work, I mean the actual patch .exe wont run at all

65 May 21, 2007 at 01:12 by Toonbaz

this patched worked for me, noticed a massive difference with bitcomet.

now downloading around 250-300kbs with multiple downloads compared to about 60kbs previously.

definately worth trying.

66 May 21, 2007 at 21:04 by Toonbaz

got upto 500kbs on multiple downloads last night so was happy.
now im barely reaching 50kbs again.thought it was too good to be true, maybe just my isp limiting me at peak times. will find out later i guess

You don’t have 100 MBPS. That’s just what it can sustain at a maximum. No company sells 100 MBPS residential service. You need to run a test at dslreports.com or better is speakeasy.net/speedtest.

Works great and it’s not a virus you idiots.
when it asks you for the XP CD just press cancel.

74 Jun 10, 2007 at 18:41 by Nieyna

Seems the changes depend on what torrent u r downloading, rite..?
my 2000 seeders torrent did went up a lot kb/s…but my 20 seeders torrent aint gaining any speed..

anyway…after I increase the HALF thing to 50.. My windows pop up an error after sumtimes says sumthing like this…

“Generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”

and my connection went off… (have to restart to connect again)

kinda annoying… Ernesto…any idea what causes this…? ^_^

75 Jun 12, 2007 at 17:30 by kompang

Yea..this tool kinda ruin my connection to the internet.
I have to restart pc after all..
kinda malware or virus something that
cause this..guess so…

File is made for CPU Users who know what they are doing, not you lot.

87 Jul 01, 2007 at 01:08 by rob

all i had to do was come to this website and now my speeds are way faster!!

88 Jul 02, 2007 at 00:29 by chargrill

this is not a virus it is what you could call an unwanted application

so dont worry some packers/cryptors use certain binary signatures

NOD32 detects it but when i unzipped it it didnt automatically put it in the quarantine, unlike a proper virus!!!!

so there u go its safe…..

89 Jul 03, 2007 at 05:07 by mad rose

guyz.. this patch is way not working for me .. everytime i try to download it.. it says some wierd stuff like “this system isn’t supported ,please upgrade to the final sp2??”.. and gotta say u all making me ancsious to get my speed sped up;p…
evenknow i’m using a 3.6mbps line so dunno why my top speed is 10 kbps if i got lucky =S …
pls i need help, anything..=D

90 Jul 08, 2007 at 18:48 by Baldey

Here is my experience with this patch.

Ive been using it for a long time now. 6 months maybie. AVG detects it as “potentially harmfull tool” and will not let me run it. so what i do to install it (i like to format occasionally so i have done this a few times) is run windows in safe mode and install it from there. I am using XP SP2, and am VERY happy with the patch. my connections is set to 1000 instead of the old 10, and my record DL speed is 6mb/sec. though that was when i was downloading around 20 things at once. normally i expect somewhere around 200 kbs/sec per download.

if you dont know how to use…
first of all, its inside a zip file. you need to get winzip or winrar or anything else that will open these files, as they are very popular and handy. Winzip will not come default with windows xp, though i think its more importainint then wordpad.

once you open it using winzip, your antivirus will go of. if you are able to just click ignore and open the file, then do so. follow the instructions on the black console window. restart imediatelly after its done.

if you cant run it becuase ur antivirus is getting in the way, restart into safe mode (press f-8 at startup repeatedly for me) and run it in safe mode.

91 Jul 08, 2007 at 18:48 by Baldey

oh and it gets a definite 10/10 from me

92 Jul 08, 2007 at 18:53 by Baldey

the patch requires windows XP service pack 2 . i dont know if it works on vista, but i know it will not work on XP if u dont have servise pack 2 installed. to install servise pack 2 go to the microsoft website and search for it.

98 Jul 18, 2007 at 11:23 by just tried

i dont think it’s a virus, i just installed it cuz i wasn’t getting a whois query on winmx, i use torrents mainly but i like to get my music from there, higher quality than frostwire limewire shareaza etc., anyway, i upped to 50, and now i can be browsed again as for speeds…. they’re not gonna go up if u don’t have many seeders, i scanned it b4 running and no threats found, and scanned after running and no threats found. My suggestion, only run this if u have ur own set of xp discs to reinstall .. if ur worried, but i did, had no errors, all’s well.

99 Jul 20, 2007 at 07:42 by duhh

this doesnt work. i tried for many times t open the file, but failed to open it. An error message always pop up when i try to open it. Yeah, i extract it in a file. “Error to open file”

100 Jul 24, 2007 at 14:56 by Edward

105 Aug 02, 2007 at 13:04 by PhiPhi

Just to drop you all a note to tell everyone that it works, at least for me.

I didn’t realise it until I upgraded my system, and the download rate gone back to turtle speed again.

Although the speed with the patching is not magnificent, but I would say at least it helps.

106 Aug 02, 2007 at 22:19 by haha

And to think that the good folks at http://www.antipirating.com is tracing each and every download of this movie for civil and cases against all involved in the ripping, and sharing of this movie. Just this year alone over 5,000 have been charged with piracy in the US and many more to come! Some are facing jail time and others have lost their right to use the internet or computers while on probation and still others have been fined tens of thousands of dollars for doing what you are doing now!

Ok so I downloaded this without even readin the comments. I scroll down, start reading and think Fantastic I just fucked my comp up.
I looked to see if my downloads were going any faster and they were not so I read some more of the comments. I check back after about 5 minutes. I usually get a good download speed, it was about 120kb/s. When I checked the second time it was 350 kb/s and I just checked again and it’s 405 kb/s. So umm I’m guessing it works. You have to remember if nobody has the file you are trying to download then ya ain’t gonna be able to download it at a high speed cuz it simply ain’t there. The only thing I was wondering if this will make my uploads go faster also? If anybody can send me info on that my e-mail is kornkid_46324@yahoo.com either that or I’ll keep checkin back on the site.

I guess for those who know how to to repair could give a try. Seems many possitive feedback it works.

For those who has no clue, please do it on your own risk. Don’t blame anyone.

For Vista user, try Google “Optimize Vista for BitTorrent”, or refer to link below

http://torrentfreak.com/optimize-vista-for-bittorrent-emule-p2ptv/

I tried the recommendation and seems works.

Good luck.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND ‘TCP Optimizer’

Are you kidding! Shut the F up to the morons calling this a virus or spyware. When you alter a Windows system file Bill Gates crappy software detects a change and comes up with an alarming message. Simple, turn off windows file protection. Also your antivirus sometimes behaves according to windows, just ignore it. The TCP file limits the number of connections to 10 and this opens it to 50. When in dougbt Google it. If you don’t get that, go back to a pen and paper.

My reccomendation is don’t install this patch. I treid it a couple of months ago and still have been unsuscessful at repair my home based network. When the patch alters TCPIP.sys sure it may increase your torrent up/down ratio, but is that worth no longer having a network printer or Home based network, you see NetBios over TCP will be removed and there is no way to override even after successfully uninstalling the pach through the dos prompt, reinstalling tcpip and even changing values from (o) to (1) in the regsitry for NetBios. Straight up garbage! Your only hope is to fommat! A system restore cannot complete because tcpip.sys is so screwed up after this patch. If you are viewing this for help it’s too late my friend either buy a wireless printer for you other pc’s to at least print through or format. Such Is live. These guys in germany with this patch are out of their minds! Total Scheiße

Thanx for ur wonderful effort.I feel sorry for u.

Some people here just don’t get it.

[1] A decent Anti Virus WILL detect this file as a VIRUS. Simply bcz it alters TCPIP.sys [ Which in this case is NOT bad ].

[2] A network administrator should’ve known that this thing is not suited for a network

I had to uninstall my BitDefender Total Security just to run this.

SORRY!
After initially approving it I am taking back my comments on this patch.

I have observed it’s behaviour. Although it DOES change the max no of open connections in TCPIP.sys, it’s a virus.

Bit Defender kept blocking it from executing itself several times, even hours after I applied the patch.

[ Though I did delete the patch after applying, it copied itself in to c:\...System Volume Information and repeatedly tried to execute itself; a typical behaviour of a Trojan ]

KB932596 and Vista 64 TCPIP.sys connection limit patch
Here’s the problem! If you’ve patched your Vista with the connection limit patch, beware! Either do not install this KB932596 update or unpatch it and then install the update. However, also beware that the patch won’t work even if you re-patch it after installing this new update. The signature of the tcpip.sys file has changed with this new update [Update: I've made a wrong assumption and has posted the right information for the KB932596 update here. Sorry for the wrong information here]. Therefore, you’d need to wait till a newer version of the patch is released.

For those of you who are as unfortunate as I was without connection for a while (till I figured out how to undo the damage), here’s how you can get the original tcpip.sys file back working.

One way, as I found out to work, is to simply just disable the driver signature detection system during booting up of Vista. You can do this by invoking the boot menu by pressing the F8 key just before Vista loads (the same method to get into safe more) and choose the option do just that. But of course, I have no idea what else was changed in the latest version of tcpip.sys that’s been updated with KB932596, so this may not be the best solution.

The other would be to uninstall KB932596 and restore the original tcpip.sys file. You can do this by going to the Uninstall Programs option in the Control Panel and uninstall the KB9325996 update. Once you’ve done that, restart Vista. Next, run this command “sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys” to get Vista to scan for the ‘corrupted file’ and restore it with the original file. Restart Vista again. The finally, reinstall the update via Windows Update.

So with this, I’m giving up Vista as the main machine to run torrents. It’s just too much trouble to keep using new versions of the tcpip.sys patch everytime Microsoft decides to update the tcpip.sys driver.

doesn’t work for me…don’t know why but i just downloaded the patch and extracted the file opened the program followed the instructions there…

187 Jan 11, 2008 at 19:16 by Toejam31

I did a lot of reading about this patch, and after weighing the pros and cons, decided to back up and give it a try. First off, the latest edition of NOD32 did NOT detect the patch as a virus. Second, it worked flawlessly, and I changed the connections to 100 with no difficulty. Third, after rebooting, I was able to up the connections in Azureus to 100 (instead of 8!) and this significantly raised my download speed. Finally, I changed the max number of connections within Firefox to 100 with the Fasterfox add-on, and watched webpages load much, much faster, which made my newly upgraded broadband connection complete (and worth the money.) Note: My version of the TCPIP.SYS file is (5.1.2600.2892), and the patch had no problems with this. Last, but not least, the error messages in the Event Viewer log disappeared. In conclusion: problems - none. Is the patch worth installing - yes.

where the fuck do u put this crack there isnt anywhere i know off

190 Jan 13, 2008 at 12:24 by Toejam31

Sounds to me like you may have two problems. First off, the patch may not support modifying the 5.1.2600.3244 build. The last update I see on the http://www.lvllord.de/ website describes how the patch will still function with the (what is now an older) 5.1.2600.2892 build, but that update/comment was as of 2006-06-16. Second, it’s fairly obvious that Windows File Protection is replacing the TCPIP.SYS file with another copy from elsewhere on the hard drive. I ran into a similar situation when I wanted to install Starskin (a desktop theme manager) and had to patch the uxtheme.dll file. The only workaround was to search for all versions of this file and rename them … only then could I add the patched file, as illustrated on this page: http://themes.belchfire.net/index.php?showtopic=9001&pid=11859&mode=threaded&start=. I suspect that you’ll have to do something very similar in order to keep the OS from interfering with the patching process.

191 Jan 15, 2008 at 20:00 by Anonymous

mmmmm you know theres a worm in this file when you instal or what ever but youll be fine if you have a virus protector that can find it right of the bat but in all ends it works good

Is that true??? I want to know!!!

195 Jan 31, 2008 at 21:40 by THIS IS NOT A FAKE

Is strange for me…

At the begining i was scared coz the stability of the system, then i tought it was a virus, but my NOD32 didnt detected like it.

Then i saw that i was downloading at 230 Kb/sec, when i had a 2MB internet speed.

So my internet conection is 110% efective.

Thanks

There are too many negative comments. It’s almost 50/50 for and against. I guess some of the positives are from peeps who hav’nt even DL this patch so I’m playing it safe. Besides, according to some of the comments I have a pretty fast DL speed.

probably virused me up too

213 Feb 27, 2008 at 14:06 by Anonymous

how many more times it not a virus or a backdoor, just a costom made patch that,s not listed, if you look at your AVG INFO it tells you there is no threat becouse they don,t have it listed and that why it picks it up, if you have run a scan before installing it, your avg more in likly has saved the last system reading obviosly it gonna pick up somthing new in the systems registry, for example the patch, a new file to the system includes AVG pickin it up, i have tested the file in a spare comp and confirm safe, make a fresh uninstall of your bittorrent then reinstall then apply the patch you will be prompted by an antivirus program if you have one installed but, it,s a new unregistered patch so feel free and safe to use, it worked fine for me,the truth is im doing a new install as you read

254 May 03, 2008 at 08:11 by elephantasia

by the way, ernesto, could you compile all the commonly asked questions in the responses and answers and post together with the blog so that people dont keep repeating questions?

for example, how to solve problems like mine, or how to uninstall if it doesnt work/screws up the system etc..
in fact it would be nice too to have the ‘how to install’ steps in the main entry rather than in one of the responses..

im sure if you had some ‘FAQ’ about this patch, people wouldnt be posting responses like crazed fanatics.. especially when the creator’s website doesnt help at all either

thanks
(well, if u even bothered to read..)

255 May 06, 2008 at 18:09 by David

Well,

before I downloaded the patch I could download a document direct from the internet at around 170kbps

Now I am downloading at 9kbps.

It isn’t hard to persuade yourself that the degradation in speed is caused by this patch since without performing a single further action my download speed immediatly disappeared.

I’m perfectly aware it may have been my own ineptitude in using the patch, but the install instructions were completely basic and easy to follow.

In this long long list of comments no-one has come up with an easy way to remove this patch and recover the original tcpip file, rather people who seem to know what they are doing basically insult those whose computers do seem to have been harmfully influenced by the patch.

This isn’t particularly helpful.

Is there anyone who has any idea how to remove the patch and restore the original settings?

256 May 09, 2008 at 12:28 by elephantasia

David,

well i gave up on waiting for answers here and i found this program xp-antispy at http://www.xp-antispy.org/index.php/download?func=sellang&iso=en (or google it if they remove the link cos they dont like adverts that doesnt praise their work) via another site which im terribly sorry to forget the link to give proper credits

its a little program and i did not have any error or problems running it. the other wonderful thing about the program is that there is a button to ‘Reset to initial state’ for the connection limit. while i havent used it to test it, im sure its much more user friendly than what was provided here.

It also depends on the router you have… if you have one. If it can’t handle the connections (Which It should, otherwise it’s a pretty poo router.) then you won’t get speed.

In response to entry 250, by gilster….
Did you bother to read any of the other responses?
This patch changes the system files (You know, the things that make your computer do stuff!)and nothing more!!!
Anti-Virus software will pop up an alert because this is a method viruses use to propagate themselves quicker, by connecting to more computers at one time(You know, like how torrent will work better if you can connect to more people at one time!) All the patch does is increase the allowable connections, not propagate a virus. And it certainly isn’t a virus in itself. You obviously have the internet at your disposal, so why not use it to LEARN something. If you want faster torrents, use this patch.
If not, please be quiet and suffer with your slow sharing speeds.

289 Jul 22, 2008 at 20:23 by sunforged

Patch works fine.

Is not a virus..as OP stated many viruses use a similar technique/ plus a system file is changed hence the virus warning.
