Prenda Law sent you here through one of their settlement demand letters.
The original article published here was meant to scare you into handing over your money, but we believe that it’s in your best interest to inform you instead.
We understand that you are worried, or scared even, but please take the time to read what we have to say.
Prenda Law is part of a group of law firms and copyright holders (copyright trolls) who file mass John Doe lawsuits against tens of thousands of people. The majority of these suits are started with the intention of convincing account holders like yourself to settle with them for a few thousand dollars.
Increasingly judges are condemning these so-called copyright trolls, and many mass lawsuits have been dismissed to date.
The copyright holders have also booked successes, but always in default judgments where accused file-sharers failed to respond. Thus far none of the hundreds of thousands of cases has gone through a trial.
What to do
It is always advisable to consult a lawyer at any stage. Since these cases are widespread there are many excellent lawyers who can assist you.
There are several good attorneys that have a very good record fighting Prenda such as Nick Ranallo and Rob Cashman and many others who are knowledgeable on this issue.
What NOT to do
Don’t ignore it should you become individually named and served in a lawsuit. There is a risk that Prenda will ask for a default judgment if you don’t respond. This can lead to massive damage claims, which the article that was published here originally points out.
Again, consult a lawyer.
