Following PS3 Hack, Sony Beefs Up Anti-Piracy Legal Team

Hot on the heels of the very public dissection of their Playstation 3 hardware by hacker Geohot and friends, Sony is looking to boost up its anti-piracy arsenal. Two new legal positions are being offered at the company. Both jobs are listed below, descriptions are from Sony.

Position 1: Senior Corporate Counsel, Anti-Piracy and Brand Protection

This position will be responsible for assessing annual SCEA corporate anti-piracy needs and addressing the needs through developing and implementing an anti-piracy program in consultation with the Deputy General Counsel and the General Counsel and collaborating with other anti-piracy organizations, including those of affiliated Sony Computer Entertainment companies, Sony Corporation and the videogame industry’s trade association, the Entertainment Software Association. The program to be developed will require a strong strategic online component (taking input from and working with SCEA Marketing, SCEA Strategic Business Development Latin America and SCEA Product Development).

Responsibilities:

* Initial meeting with Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel to set out process for developing anti-piracy program
* Initial meetings followed by periodic meetings with relevant business groups to assess on an on-going basis SCEA corporate anti-piracy needs
* Development of a written plan and budget for corporate anti-piracy program
* Maintaining liaison between Sony Corporation anti-piracy groups and Sony Computer Entertainment affiliate anti-piracy colleagues on the one hand and SCEA Deputy GC and GC on the other hand
* Maintaining relationships and correspondence with industry trade association Entertainment Software Association and providing 2-way feedback with SCEA Deputy GC and GC re same
* Overseeing anti-piracy civil lawsuits and providing support to law enforcement and intellectual property agencies on behalf of SCEA

Position 2: Senior Paralegal, Anti-Piracy and Brand Protection

This position will be responsible for handling the day-to-day work of implementing SCEA’s anti-piracy program in consultation with the Sr. Corporate Counsel in charge of anti-piracy, including interfacing with other anti-piracy organizations such as those of affiliated Sony Computer Entertainment companies, Sony Corporation and the videogame industry’s trade association, the Entertainment Software Association. This position will be responsible for handling presentations on SCEA’s trademarks and brands to law enforcement, Customs and other entities as required by the anti-piracy program. This program will work closely with and under the direction of the Sr. Corporate Counsel in charge of running the anti-piracy program.

Responsibilities:

* Correspond with and give instruction to outside counsel per direction from Sr. Corporate Counsel
* Coordinate and present trademark and brand protection presentations at Customs and law enforcement trainings as required by anti-piracy program
* Support development of a written plan and budget for corporate anti-piracy program
* Correspond and maintain liaison with Sony Corporation anti-piracy groups and Sony Computer Entertainment affiliate anti-piracy colleagues at direction from Sr. Corporate Counsel
* Support maintenance of relationships with and correspond at direction of Sr. Corporate Counsel with industry trade association Entertainment Software Association and providing 2-way feedback with SCEA Deputy GC and GC re same
* Assist in supporting anti-piracy civil lawsuits and providing support to law enforcement and intellectual property agencies on behalf of SCEA
