Uploaded.to Blocks US Visitors After MegaUpload Shutdown

uploadedUploaded.to, one of the most popular file-hosting sites in the Internet, has closed its doors to US visitors.

The move is most likely a response to the FBI crackdown on MegaUpload two days ago.

US visitors of Uploaded.to currently get the following message.

“Not Available: Our service is currently unavailable in your country. Sorry about that.”

The site has yet to release an official statement on the “block.” Whether it’s permanent, and the alleged relation to the MegaUpload raids and arrests is unknown at this point.

Uploaded.to’s decision is just one of the many changes the major cyberlockers have made during the past days. More on that later.

Acta was made by the US and signed by the US . Your point is invalid .

Actually Kikith3man, its international, so you’d be affected as well. So your point is invalid…

The same ACTA 377 EU Parliamentarians signed a declaration against? The same ACTA an EU study in December urged the EU to reject parts of ACTA to protect free speech? The same ACTA accepted by the US, Japan, Canada, and other countries EXCEPT the EU and Switzerland? Again, that is something you Americans can enjoy all by yourselves. :D

        • Sam-aston

ACTA DOES affect The EU. You’d better research a bit more. They’re going into a secret meeting soon.

Yeah. I’m sure whatever country you’re from isn’t ready to bend over backwards to extradite your ass to our Yankee corporatocracy. Laugh it up now. Our scandalous politicians have no problem telling your government to give you up. And guess what? Your politicians will say how high when ours tell yours to jump.

Yes, but in your country with that “freedom” and “democracy” YOU, AMERICANS, can give your VOTE to different politicians.

Actually, you can use a VPN to get around that. Since SOPA has not yet been passd (and probably won’t be for quite a while now), it is still legal in the United States to do this.

You cannot use any of their paid services, but free services, you can use, since SOPA, and its anti-ciorcumvention clause, has not yet passed.

“Not Available: Our service is currently unavailable in your country. Sorry about that.”

About time you Yanks saw that notice, I was sick of seeing that on most of the websites I visit. Now you know how the rest of the world feels when they can’t access US based sites. For years I have been warning people that they want to divide and lock down the internet. And do you know why? So they can control the message, like they could before the days of the Internet. The global borderless nature of the internet is what truly scares them, they know they can’t custom-tailor propaganda in the different countries like they could before.
Don’t be foolish, its not about piracy, its about control.

the nickname here is one I have stuck with since I initially started commenting on TF (giving DISQUS a false email at the time since it didn’t allow me to submit comments as a guest). The DISQUS system at the time would automatically give you the username based on the stuff before the @ in your email address so I ended up with the username donotreply.

Since becoming a full account user I decided to stick with the original nickname (substituting an 0 in my original nick “donotreply” as it wouldn’t register saying it ‘already existed =S’).

History lecture aside, all replies are welcome (save the trolls and prolific spammers around here).

      • GoGoAmericannots

Oh, there are a bunch of fairly interesting sites out there, outside of USA, its just that americans (more like americannots) hardly ever look anywhere else than their own “fantastic” country. Pay off your debts and stop bugging us, tyvm.

        • Root

As it stands, the US does pay their debts. If you want to talk about debtor-nations, let’s examine Greece and Spain, eh?

        • Stink

Root…. How can you say the US does pay there debts? They were on the verge of bankruptcy just a couple of months ago. It was only a debt extension that allowed them to carry on. Yes, Greece and Spain are in deep but it’s about time the US, and it’s people, realized that they are not the almighty overseers of the world. If they stopped bullying the world around them and held themselves accountable to there own ideals, like no person shall “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law” (fifth amendment… you should know this), then maybe things would be different in the worlds eye. The shutdown and seizure of all of Megauploads assets is a perfect example. That, and the illegal detention of non charged individuals by the US military. You cannot set rules for the world and then choose to play by your own!!

        • Yetanothermoron

and where are you typing from sir? Hopefully not from the failed EU… Seems to me there’s not a single country in this world that isn’t hurting economically. (or are you on break from your gaming job in china?) Americans hate having to shell out a shit ton of aid to feed your hungry unwashed masses but we SURE don’t ever get credit for that. I say let em die. We need population control as is. I really hope you weren’t talking about the fantastic movies from India or Japan, yep you’re right there. *eye roll* It’s all the USA’s fault for all that is wrong, but it seems to me it was just fine when we were handing out aid to every idiot country with corrupt politicians. You have got to be kidding.

        • Indeedanothermoron

I have an idea. Let´s make a line on the map around the US, and nothing can go in or out of there. They can have their own fun laws and not bother the rest of the world with them. Yetanothermoron, dont you think its just plain stupid to worry about copyright when there are so many other more important things to worry about?

Personally I have also the impression that is all is about control.
Control of big (media) industries and behind that very sneaky, the governments.
And this is all pointing at us… the civilians.
All under the cover over child porn or copyrights…..
And just at the moment we have the opportunity to change the world for the better, we need this, changing the world for the better as otherwise our human race will not survive the 21st century.
Certain people with power do not understand this, and certainly industries do not understand this as they are blinded by money, and blinded by power…
But they must understand that you cannot take money and power with you into your grave…..

    • Fredrik

Using a quick google search I found swedish vpn-services for less than 5€ a month (about $4), that’s not really a lot.

This is the rest of the Internet-world trying to avoid being taken down by other nations govenments, It’s a shame, and the blame can only be directed one way.

        €5 is $6.50

Almost every currency in the western world is stronger than the dollar right now, and has been for the past few years.

        • BernankeUsesAToiletToo

it all relative. the u.s.treasury is the largest bank in the world and goes into currency markets to “adjust” the price as best they can to meet their perceived goals…aka a cheap dollar makes dollar-based goods and services look attractive to those with pounds or euros. This is why china has been weaking it’s currency for a decade…to attract foreign investment

  • fed up with feds

Its pretty sad that an entire country gets shut out of a website because that country’s government is to blatantly inept to understand that filesharing IS HERE TO STAY. PERIOD. The reason they bypass courts of law is that nearly the entire country approves of filesharing, and they realize that they cant prosecute nearly an entire country and win.. So, what to do, what to do.. How about send illegal operatives into OTHER countries to shut down/seize websites that the foreign government has absolutely no right to do… way better than doing the right thing and just leaving file sharers alone… Sad thing is, it all boils down to the hollywood lobbyists convincing our corrupt officials that they are losing $$$ in sales tax losses. Unfortunately, this falls under the logical dilemma “fallacy of the unknowable fact.” I.E., it just simply and plainly CANNOT be proved, no matter how much it is suspected… UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ARE @$$HOLES! ….but we all knew that already.

    Well personally…

I’m not offended I live in Miami Florida things are a bit different culture are widespread in Miami and well people are more down to earth. Now if only people were like this worldwide where we didn’t hate one another where everyone shared and loved each other and pride and joy and living life free from censorship free from restrictions.

Copyright to me personally is not protection it’s restrictions when at one time copyright was about sharing and protecting whomevers intellectual property it belonged to. But today the major industries have made copyright an abusive tactic a way to call people out and say your guilty till proven innocent GUILTY!!

Some politicians and not just here in the U.S. are sooo corrupt so arrogant so power hungry that it’s shameful it’s disgusting and it makes the U.S. look EXXXXTREMELY BAD! What I have learned is when they mention “follow the money.”

If you listen to that politicians are really saying pay me and I’ll suck your dick because I’m a fucking little bitch parasite that won’t read about this law and sign papers and don’t care about what the public thinks I’m a money sucking fucking whore.

That’s where other countries come in and don’t thinks it’s just America stop placing all your anger on U.S. and it’s citizens I say we vote them all out replace them all from a pirate party and have a fucking field day share everything because copyright hungry corporations steal from the public domain. So what makes these tyrants any different in anyway? A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y NOTHING…

As for upload.to this is what the corporations and governments worldwide want they want everyone to hate each other so there can be more wars and more homicide and hate and deceit etc… etc… etc… etc….WAKE UP!! IT’S EVERYWHERE NOT JUST FROM AMERICA…

Thank you god bless you all.

    • Anon

      True.

New laws were recently passed (2 days ago?) to reintroduce copyright to previously public domain material. They don’t want to give away or let anyone have anything for free.

On topic: I’ve got no problem at all with Uploaded.to trying to protect itself, but sadly I doubt this will actually help them. Hollywood sends over a list of sites, and the sites get taken down. Compliance with the law has nothing to do with it. (see dajaz1)

        • http://www.twitter.com/echoman74 echoman

Yeah I know I’m reading plenty about the public domain and public domain is as stated, any works that have ended their copyright is indefinitely in the public domain. But as the laws was stated public domain also has it’s laws you can’t take something from the public domain and us it in it’s original form.
But can rewrite it and place copyright on it. Sadly though this comes into abuse and the supreme court justices should be fired. I think the public domain needs some protection right now. :/

The real reason corporations and government want everyone to hate each other is because if we all came together, just by our sheer numbers we would strip these entities of any control and take over or destroy them. Racism, class warfare, etc. are the tools that these entities use to keep us divided. Make no mistake, people are starting to wise up and at some point all hell is going to break loose!

Want to store data? Buy blank CDs, DVDs, flash drives, external hard drives – even a printer and lots of paper. None of these require you to trust a corporation or government not to lose or otherwise make the information unavailable to you. From Day One, I just knew that cloud computing was madness. Now, along with many other folk, I’ve been proved right.

Regarding action by the US electorate, protests do have an effect on politicians. At least for now they’ve backed off SOPA and PIPA. They hope the people will move on and then they’ll try again. So remember that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

On the wider issue of corruption, it’s difficult to see how to fight it when it’s so pervasive and so deeply embedded in both parties. Possibly an election boycott might work if the turnout was so low that the winning politicians could not claim to represent the people. They’d still do their masters’ bidding though.

Unless things unexpectedly improve, I fear the solution doesn’t lie in the realms of politics or law… That’s a great shame because 99% of Americans are honest decent people. Sadly they are ruled by the scum that floated to the top.

  • http://torrentfreak.com/ Rob8urcakes

I’d like to see uploaded.to’s official statement as to why they decided to do this extraordinary move.

For the time being I can’t make up my mind whether it’s a move that I could support or maybe express my disapproval. I can see positives AND negatives, but it depends how things play out and whether other sites follow suit by banning US IP addresses.

Not that it really matters coz US folks can still access such sites by using a web proxy, VPN, MAFIAAfire, etc.

So I guess the USA blocking by uploaded.to is mainly a self-preservation attempt to show that they do not cater to users in the USA and the Feds should leave them alone. But if that is their reasoning, then it wont wash coz all the Feds will do is monitor the site for US copywrong material and act accordingly.

So I’m really quite ambivalent about this blocking of Country’s by a public cyberlocker. It seems to punish the citizens of that Country unfairly, yet it’s up to those citizens to protest at their government that’s caused this shit in the first place.

    • Alan

I disagree, their actions are taken in order to protect themselves from the government that were put in place by, and repressents the american people. If the american government takes action against the will of the american people then it is their duty to get rid of said government. Amercans are not doing so and thus they either agree with the actions of their government or they have themselves to blame.

Then again, the block is easily circumvented so who cares ;)

      • Mang

The problem with that reasoning is that here in the US, we only hold congressional elections every two years, and not every legislator is up for reelection in every election, so it’s impossible for us to immediately get rid of legislators who displease us. And it’s not true that Americans haven’t done anything about this. Major American companies and many American citizens’ protests have already helped block the passage of two proposed laws for the time being.

    • Roberto

USA copyright laws only apply to material acessed from the USA. If I’m in the EU I’m under the Schengen Area copyright laws, no matter that the material I’m acessing comes originally from the USA.

if usa follow with things like megavideo what we have to do is to stop going to usa websites like google, facebook, twitter to protest, can you imagine those sites with no visits from outside usa for a week? BTW money laundering is what google do, they just really pay tax in usa and then use countries like ireland to not pay the real tax they have to pay for example here in spain, when the EU will block usa companies for this kind of activity

  • manu

It’s obvious this blockage is mostly for legal purposes. If you use a VPN, proxy, Tor, etc that’s fine, but before the law, the site was not made accessible to the USA.

It would be a nice protest if more people closed their websites to the USA.

Rest of the world ! We can live easly without them !

      I agree.
There are loads of people that don’t know to use proxy or even what a proxy is.
I think its a great move and it would indeed be entertaining at least to watch the rest of the world block U.S. access.
I’m curious about the accounts being deleted. Are they deleting U.S. accounts?
Also a cool move if that’s the case.
Would it work better if all the foreign ISP’s blocked access to the U.S. ?
Freeze them out from both directions.

      It made my day. ::-)

      • Guest

Why would you want to block out the American citizens? These actions wouldn’t do anything to hurt the government, who are the real bad guys behind all of this.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1547952415 Luna Azul

Well dear, is an awfull thing to block whoever citizen, but US citizens need to do something about the stupid things your government is doing. I had files in Megaupload, my very own files that I shared with few people (since they were private and of no interest except for my family), and your FBI robbed me, and did the same with millions of people. How on earth can this be tolerated??

    • Tesla

hardly relevant in a movement to block the U.S.

I think its a great idea.
If it gets a reaction maybe the U.S. citizens might try to force their govt to change their policies.
Some parents tell their children to ignore the bully in the playground and he will eventually go away.
If I could flip a switch and turn off all U.S. access to to our countries internet, I would do it in a sec. Wouldn’t hesitate for a moment.
No one likes a bully. Stay in your own yard if you’re just going to bully everyone.
If the bully brings his weapons to the playground, we just go play by ourselves…..
Try using a different perspective for what just happened.
I stand by what I said yesterday, using terrorist tactics against a non-violent crime is intolerable and should be dealt with by whatever means get that point across, barring violence.
Unless Dotcom used violence and therefore got arrested….was a terrorist reaction really necessary? Excessive force is not necessary in a alleged digital crime and that was excessive and who ever thought it was a good plan should at least lose his job and face some serious charges and get psychiatric help.
Block the U.S. every way possible till their people do the right thing.
Don’t blame us for reacting this way if they can’t control their violence.

How is it the American public is an equal partner in its government’s alleged abuses and therefore should be punished, yet the population of any country so timid, meek, and gutless as to make the phrase ‘a collective of whining vaginas’ an understatement – as those populations are apparently completely lacking the ability/pride/testicles to stand up and tell the US “No.” – is issued a full pass on any responsibility for what transpires within their own borders???

I for one would surely rather have all of that international aid money the US pisses away each year stay within the US’s borders. At least then I know the people who it will be spent on, deserve it, as they had originally earned it, and aren’t going to use it to fund a riot to protest a miniscule increase in tuition or the proposal that it actually be possible for a company to have an interest in its future and fire a completely incompetent employee.

The self-righteous entitlement that is the font of European and ‘FREE internet’ attitudes is simply appalling. Most of you are acting like a two year old that shits itself and screams “MINE!!! MINE!!! MINE!!!” because of a site closure that makes it only SLIGHTLY more difficult to continue stealing other people’s shit wholesale. I understand the argument that all information should be free, but shouldn’t those who discovered or created said information be compensated for the time and toil required to discover or create it in the first place? Unfortunately, I get the impression that such a question is far too complex and may require far too much self-inspection for a group whose collective mantra can be summed up as: “Gimme More Free Shit NOW.”

And oh yeah – if the American contribution to global society is so harmful that its population should itself be collectively censored from the greater internet, how about next time the US sits back and allows Germany to simply do its thang? Because the past sure as hell proves that there but for the grace of the United States that is EXACTLY what she would have already done. [When the time comes that you are demanding the removal of every American from your sovereign soil - many of you in Europe better look in the mirror and think DAMN HARD if that also means those that are buried under it - and whether you would even be there to stare at yourself if that hadn't become their place of rest.]

Or how about this? Here is a way you can both boycott American products and reduce the overall heat the US government has on the internet:

Start boycotting the downloading/sharing/stealing/pirating of content produced within the United States.

But wait…that’s right…if you did that there wouldn’t be much left worthwhile to download, except for episodes of Top Gear, of course…

STOP CONFLATING THE US POPULATION WITH THE US GOVERNMENT OR THE FORMER WILL FULLY SUPPORT ALL ACTIONS OF THE LATTER AND IT WILL THEN BE GUARANTEED:

    YOU WILL LOSE!!!!

It is entirely possible that We are a Legion of Idiots and the internet will be our Cannae.

    Regards.

Dear Jddoyle Those who “discovered” or “create” should be reasonable compensated for their creations, but actual coyright laws are completely insane and MUST be changed. There’s not justice in a greedy corporation who creates NOTHING trying to earn fortunes for ever. How on earth is possible that Martin Luther King famous speech (“I have a dream…”) CAN’t be reproduced? Do you know that this speech rights are held by the heirs of MLK, who constantly demands that any image or video of that meeting appearing on the website to be down inmediatly? And, what they do with their “right” over the image and words ofn MLK? In 2001 they give the image (sell), not for a human rights campaign, bur for an ADVERTISING of a communication company named Alcatel!! Poor MLK, what about HIS dream?… And in 2009 the heirs signed an agreement with a company that manages the use ever since and the corresponding payment. A company called EMI.
Do you want to live in a world like that?? I don’t. There are many, many things that righfully belong to public domain, MANKIND is the true owner, not a person or a corporation, no matter what a crazy law says. Society is changing for better, not for worse, and an important part of this change is due to internet free share. Is this a financial loss for some? Yes, no doubt. Wikipedia ruined the business to the Encyclopedia Britannica. The opportunity for writers to publish their own books alone ruin the business to publishers, etc.. But the cost of economic losses for some is always cheap when what you get is a better world. Free Internet crosses borders, boundaries, and gets you out of your little world. Not so easy for governments and the powerful to shit their own peoples, and that is what is all about.

      • Jddoyle

I understand your point, but a large problem with your argument is that you assume to know what MLK would have wanted, and what the best way to preserve his legacy would be. You can’t be certain that either of your beliefs on those points is anywhere near what MLK’s would have been. In addition, you say your problem is with copyright law but actually, your problem is with MLK’s heirs – you do not think that they are providing the proper stewardship needed for such an important archive of historical material. I happen to agree with you completely and I would also extend that critique to the Hendrix and Joyce family heirs as well.

However, disagreeing with their stewardship does not grant us in any way the ability to dissolve completely their RIGHT to that stewardship. Are we really so arrogant that we believe we will be better stewards of anyone’s legacy than those closest to the individual, those that individual loved and trusted the most??? And if the public WAS given complete control how would we prevent a KKK group from using MLK’s legacy in recruitment brochures? MLK most CERTAINLY would not have wanted his image used like that (but again, one can never know for certain), but as the ENTIRE public now owns the image, who has the right to stop such use? How would we even build in safeguards to prevent abuses such as that? A popular vote? In that case, though we will have a result and a subsequent action, there is absolutely NO WAY for us to know how MLK would have voted on the issue. And if the result of the voting ended up being the OPPOSITE of what MLK would have wanted – we just defaced his legacy infinitely worse than how the MLK heir’s are able to today.

And more importantly, I think one only needs to look at the legacies of figures such as Jesus Christ or Mohammed to see just how poorly a collective accurately preserves an individual’s legacy.

Finally, as an aside, I truly believe that if J.R.R. Tolkien were to rise from his grave and sit on my couch, within 60 seconds of watching me play Skyrim he would turn to me and say: “My people are getting paid for this – right?”

My point is this: Everyone needs to calm the fuck down. Yes, what is happening is absolutely INFURIATING; but also please think about the scope and implication of what you are saying. Those same copyright laws that megacompanies abuse are the same laws that individuals can use to protect their property against megacompanies. Without them, the individual would have no protection at all, yet the megacompanies would still be just as rich.

Do NOT throw the baby out with the bathwater.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1547952415 Luna Azul

Yet, the SOPA and PIPA laws are promoted by big corporations, not by creators… Ironically, UMG’s lawsuit against Megaupload was because artists under contract with UMG made ??a video FOR Megaupload.
Many artists give freely their stuff in their websites and youtube channels, and yet UMG tries to block them. You write a song, you perform it, you record a video and make it “public” for everyone on your own channel, and yet UMG blocks it??? http://www.youtube.com/user/bonjovi?blend=1&ob=4
You can’t play the Bach “minuet in d minor” because some orchestra under UMG contract performed it??? NO WAY!!
Not a good business policy to piss off your customers. Personally, I don’t like digital downloads, the sound quality goes worse each day. CD was worse than vinilo records, and digital dowloads are worse than CD: I used to purchase CDs or DVDs of my favourites artists, but after what was done to Megaupload by this greedy corporations, I swear not to buy a CD or DVD never again. I’ll save my my hardly earned money for live concerts, where it will go to those who truly deserve it.
And it’s not up to you or me to decide the “proper” use of some things, that’s exactly my point. Even less, it’s up to governments or corporations, they belong to all of us and should be used freely by everyone.

If I can be held directly responsible for my countries actions, aren’t you just as responsible for your own countries actions?

I hear a lot of bitching about America and the influence of it’s money around the world – but has one single country represented here on TF ever returned the money we sent them?

Has any country ever said ‘No.’?????

If America is so universially horrible why aren’t you lobbying your country to send every cent we provide you back? Why don’t I hear of demonstrations in the streets of London, Bohn, Paris, Madrid, etc., where flocks of you show up to DEMAND you country stop taking American aid money?

Is there a reason other than you would have to then earn it yourself???

I think you’ve got it completely wrong. Actually it’s viceversa. Check Billboard’s list (Rihanna and Adele are on top), check where top games are made (i.e. World of Warcraft is made in France), Lehman Brothers’ scam affected European banks that trusted them, and so on.

I love how the rest of the world expects every one of us to be hypervigilant about every little action occurring in our government (like we don’t have lives, or jobs, or kids, or hobbies, or nothing better to do and just want to sit on our ass…); yet when it comes down to it, in england for example, the only thing that got THEM off of their ass and out from in back of the computer was the suggestion that the government was thinking of making them actually PAY for a college education – not all of it mind you, just under $1,000 worth. Three days of burning and looting because they didn’t want to pay under $1000 for a college education.

Or in France the instigating event was a proposal that a company actually be able to fire an incompetent worker!!! I mean – the fucking GALL of those companies!!! A Frenchman can’t be FIRED!!! My GOD! How would he afford all 10 weeks of his vacation??? How about we just agree that we need some time apart and y’all will just call us the next time you surrender?

BLOCKADE the USA, problem solved. Everything went better than expected.

This is like SOPA’s blackout you made everybody else swallow, but permanent and for Amurrica.

    • Vincent Giannell

I doubt they’ll keep the US blocked for long. I just hope MegaUpload gets cleared of all charges against them.

    • Mang

The blackout was a move by major American websites to PROTEST anti-piracy laws, not part of the laws–which have not passed, by the way!

I’m American and I believe the US government has no place touching websites unless they are a danger to the security of its citizens. Only web hosts should be able to decide if the content on one of its customer’s sites should be taken down or not. It’s up to the courts to decide if a web host can be forced or not. With certain legal injunctions where perpetual damages can be incurred, then in certain circumstances before litigation the site could be taken down. For a site owner to be arrested before any litigation has taken place, that is just not right. Copyright law violation is not a violent crime and needs to be settled in court before criminal charges should be allowed to be filed. In this case, if it is proven that users of the site committed the crime and not the site owner, then where is the legal case against Megaupload site owners? If they worked with copyright owners and their representatives to remove violating material when found, where is there any violation on their part?

Anyways, please block Americans from your site if you believe they will get you arrested. I think this is the best way to piss us off enough to do something about it. Block it until our courts decide that our government has no right to intervene. The FBI should not be the World Copyright Police, Americans do not want our tax dollars going to support the Policing for Corporations. If the Corporations and Individual Copyright holders wish to sue someone for infringement, this should be their prerogative and not the FBI’s.

New Zealand officials, shame on you for treating your citizens this way. Next time they try to force you to do something like this against your citizens, go on television in the US and talk about how sinister our officials were towards you.

I propose this, and to whom ever reads this pass it on, spread it.

Block US. Block them out completely. They wish a subjugated internet, then they should have exactly that. Clearly in the rush to make due in the wake of the national debt the US gov and co have overstepped their boundaries.

So block them and their country. In my eyes and i’m certain of others views as well, the people of US clearly are contempt to be led like cattle. Why should we suffer.

    • Fruityloops

We do hold contempt for our government! How did you know?

Oh wait, you’re a fucking idiot who meant to say ‘content’!

Really though, the politicians don’t exactly reflect the views of the people. It’s easy to say “well then you shouldn’t have elected them” but honestly, we can’t see into the future; how the hell were we supposed to know SOPA would be given birth by Lamar Smith’s cavernous vagina? If we could see into the future, I can almost guarantee we would have elected better people into office.

Why are so many posters being so cruel? America has chosen to help Europe in a few situations before. A couple of major world wars come to mind. Why delight in their dismay now? Even if you are confident that your countries are so wonderfully well developed that there’s no possibility of them ever considering restricting any freedoms, wouldn’t it be more progressive to help fight the precedent rather than revel in the misfortune of others?

Yes, you can change? Nope, you can’t!

You aren’t even able to give your vote to something else than the Republicans or the Democrats. Why do you have two parties at all?

Dropping bombs on countries the average American Joe wouldn’t even find on a world map, pissing on dead soldiers, torturing people in Guantanamo, destroying countries and economies with rating agencies, blackmailing countries and companies which don’t comply to your rules and believing in God: This is all you can!

Very good decision to block access for US IPs, I hope that many other internet services will follow this example and separate Anachronistan, the land of the unfree, from the rest of the world. Maybe it will help them to finally wake up and realize that the US is not the centre of the universe.

    • Draktlovely

Yes because we totally want to give Al Qaeda material for their recruiting videos.

Not all people in the USA think they’re hot shit; you seem to think you are, though. I don’t give a fuck what people from other countries do as long as they don’t make blanket statements based on loud-mouthed assholes.

we all should stick together against these real enemies of the people, they are those who want to take away rights, and make us slaves.

Well, you Americans can easily find ridiculously cheap movies, music and games anyway. In some other countries those things will probably cost you an arm and a leg.

People will buy, if the price is right.

    • Draktlovely

I’ve heard about the cost of games in Australia and Europe. It is rather ridiculous, along with the exorbitant cost of gas. What is it, the equivalent of 8 USD per gallon? I might be a US citizen but that shit still ain’t right.

Don’t forget the people from outside the country that judge us based on the people we “elect”.

Here’s a secret: We don’t really elect people into office; we give the popular vote but the electoral college is who makes the decisions.

  • Ivex

My best guess why DOJ closed the Megaupload site is to divide filesharing community.

When I saw comments here I realised it.

    Divide and conquer.

Now everybody from EU is praising it’s freedoms, and americans resent it, while at the same time DOJ is copyrighting EU behind it’s back with ACTA.

Until this is resolved, filesharing community will be divided in EU and USA camps and unable to strike back unanimously.

Don’t give up on anyone’s rights, we are all citizens of the world, not the Countries we live in.

EU members should support USA people and not allow to be cut off by their emotions, that is what the MPAA wants to do. Impose ACTA on EU with no american demonstrations.

EU market is equally big as the EU, if they solve that 50% of fileshares in Europe will be cut off, and then they will pass SOPA or PIPA with no dissent in Europe because Europeans will then want it imposed because they will get the terrorist treatment in EU.

This is my view on it.

We call those responsible for the block jerkoffs

  • Your Average Ignorant

After reading this page full of comments here is what I get:
-US is a country of ignorant and racists governed by Hollywood.
-Europe is an area of lesser ignorant and racists that are not governed by Hollywood.
Every business started in US because there were the ones that waste resources and throw $$ out of the window. It’s simple economics. While Europe helped the progress US helped the wasting of resources.

Also the dollar versus euro is a money making scheme same as someone said above and mentioned China.
We will be governed by the chines in a few decades:
    1.China has zero debpt.
2.China has 1/3rd of the world population.
3.China produces…. and produces a lot while the rest of us sit on our asses and buying stuff made in China and while Apple, Adidas and others moved to china.

-ACTA was rejected by half of the EU recently because the people in charge were too ignorant about it and left the ones that represent them in the European Parliament to sign whatever they please (money sucking corrupt bastards)
The countries with the biggest datacenters spoke publicly against ACTA and it will not pass (At least in EU)

All hale MegaUpload’s crush… they made that at the worse possible moment for them :)… thank to that the people became aware what the US and the Hollywood’s copyright laws can do with really limited power. Imagine with ACTA, SOPA and PIPA … the extent of the abuse will be HUGE.

Ohh,,, and for the ignorant bastard that said that $6.5 is a few day’s pay in some countries so it’s too much for a VPN please remember this:
    1. You only need VPN when you live in US
    2. This is equivalent exchange since Hulu and many other sites are blocked for the outside of US. So live with it.

    My Best Regards,
    Your average ignorant.

Beijing policy makers say they’re eager to encourage greater domestic consumption. Chinese shoppers are famously luxury-happy, flying to Hong Kong and further afield in droves to stock up on Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel and more. All of which means the stage is set for the next great innovation to hit China:
    Louis Vuitton Outlet malls.
